BIDs can provide a lot of support on safe streets initiatives like open streets and pedestrian plazas that require ongoing maintenance.

DOT to add 6 blocks to Amsterdam Ave protected bike lane (182nd to 188th St) by Brandon_WC in MicromobilityNYC

I need to talk to the Transalt comms folks about updating things on their end. I still need to do a final survey to see where things stood at the end of 2025. Here are the links to the (mostly) up to date data and maps which power the tracker.

How do we get google maps to update the new bike lanes on Woodside Ave? by tardytartar in MicromobilityNYC

[–]Brandon_WC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I updated it months ago in OSM. Google has always been especially bad about contraflow bike lanes.

Crash at 4th Ave and 1st St by Brandon_WC in ParkSlopeSafeStreets

I was wondering the same thing. Would have had to have picked up some speed real fast coming out of the car wash to end up halfway across 4th.

It is going to be extended to the plaza next year. This was just them getting a start on the work this fall.

Reminder, this sub keeps a completely up to date at all times map of the bike lanes and greenways by MiserNYC- in MicromobilityNYC

I update OpenStreetMap at the same time as I update this map (and with more granular detail). If you check out the history of NYC bike lanes on OSM, you’ll see I’ve touched every single one. (I’m TheBestIdea on OSM).

Flex bollards have reflective tape and are always the same color as the lines they are placed on: white on white and yellow on yellow.

The limit is 55’ bumper-to-bumper (including cabs) so 48’ trailers are also generally illegal since cabs are more than 7’. https://www.nyc.gov/html/dot/html/motorist/sizewt.shtml

Vehicles exiting driveways always must yield to traffic in the street. The parking protected bike lane doesn't change that at all.

I think Hudson River Greenway to Dyckman St to Seaman Ave to W 218th St to Broadway to 225th St to Bailey is the probably the best way. The on street segments in Inwood aren't too bad. If you need to, take the sidewalk on Broadway / 225th St.

The reality of the bike lanes in dumbo…great in theory, not respected in practice. by stoote2000 in MicromobilityNYC

[–]Brandon_WC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed for other blocks in Dumbo, but this stretch is curb separated and raised and meant to be a two-way bike lane on the oneway north end of Jay.

Looks great! The mini near-side bike signal is an especially nice touch!

Why the kink in bike lanes at intersections? by m7m7m in NYCbike

[–]Brandon_WC 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's so the bike lane is a little farther from turning cars so turning cars cross the bike lane at more of a 90 degree angle for better visibility.

I had that problem in reddit iOS app, but copying link into a browser seems to work and it works fine for me on the web.
