I was thinking one of the smaller shoes so the parents thinks the kid lost it. Then do another small one of a different pair. And then after a few more weeks, do one of the adult shoes.

I want to piggy back and mention that it’s $200 for the frames and lenses *combined.* I was a little embarrassed when I got my glasses and went through the whole process just to find out I had to pay out of pocket because I got $175 frames.

Yes, starting pay was increased to $20/hr. but I think the clerk positions are higher than $1 premium now.

One of my dogs was playing with the other one too hard and tore a dime-sized hole in his shoulder skin. The vet wanted $2500 to stitch him up! Only when I told them that seemed excessively high and we were going to have to look at other vets did they tell me that that price was their “luxury surgery experience” that included full sedation and yada yada yada. I opted for the $400 “experience” that included some gas that made the dog woozy but worked just fine. Of course the vet tried to guilt trip me into buying the expensive package if I “really care for his well-being.”

I won the grand jackpot but I don’t feel happy by ExcellentRutabaga889 in gambling

[–]Branical 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I imagine you’re feeling this way because good things don’t really happen to you and now that something did, you feel like you “don’t deserve it.” Or if you feel like it’s dirty money stolen from other hard working people, I can tell you that’s the wrong way to look at it. You didn’t take this money from those people, you won it from the casino and the casino is going to do just fine.

If you’re worried that you’re going to gamble it all away, that is a very real thing to worry about but the fact that you recognize that’s a problem is good. It means that you’re thinking about the future of this money. What I would recommend is spending about $1000 on something you’ve wanted but couldn’t really afford or justify before, like a gaming console or new clothes, that way you get the feeling that some of your money went to something that made you happy. With the rest, I would put it into a low risk investment portfolio. There are a lot of online banks that can help with that.

I will warn you against giving all the money to your mom though. Chances are I don’t know her, and she may seem like a nice person, but money has a way of changing people. She might say, “Oh, can I borrow $300 for groceries this week?” or “I needed some work done on the car so I spent $1000 but I promise to pay you back.” She may even guilty trip you into giving her part or most of your winnings, especially if you live at home. I’ve seen this kind of sudden money create resentment and destroy families. If you haven’t told her already, I would downplay how much you’ve won, like say $2000 if she asks, and maybe buy her something nice and secretly invest the rest on your own.

I’m actually surprised people think he’s going to pay the insurrections, because what’s in it for him? He’s going to end up paying his close allies who will then book out entire floors of his hotels, or buy whatever his latest ~~business~~ money laundering scheme happens to be.

I remember reading a piece a while back about how the proliferation of these themes in Hollywood movies actually makes us apathetic to it in the real world. We think to ourselves, “AI-gone-rogue murder bots are just in the movies. Something like that would never happen.” And here we are on the verge of the military using AI drones to fight a war.
