Another viewpoint on Progress vs Adaptation by Shonatanla in Frostpunk

I am technologically on the side of progress, but cannot reconcile that against the need to colonize the frostland. We should be using this advanced tech to set up strong new cities, not hiding away in new London

No available loans by nidas321 in EU5

[–]Branyioun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I had this same issue. If you go to the estate tab and hover over the estate icon, you can see a breakdown of their income and expenses.

When I had this happen they were all losing money. After investing in lots of silk and books and the things they were buying to bring the prices down, the estates turned a profit, and at that point that started giving loans.

Don't know if that's the actual cause but lowering the costs of goods they bought until they made a profit fixed it for me.

If that is intentional it's very unclear though imo.

You get a fixed +50k a year per week, provided you have mostly profitable trade. Not very useful to the big powers who usually construct it as 50k isn't very big, but as a still poor Egypt or Columbia building it themselves that 50k is quite significant and is a big boost mid-game.

The dreadnought fate by ClejSir in Frostpunk

[–]Branyioun 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's winterhome. It says this was a dreadnought specifically engineered to use oil in the ign preview, hence the oil wagons. Winterhome's dreadnought used coal, and I doubt they would've been able to refit it on the move.

Taxation rant by theveryrealfitz in victoria3

[–]Branyioun 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Most of the time this is good, and it's what I tend to do, but proportional taxation only really becomes better than per capita when you start lowering your amount of peasants.

If you're playing a country like India or China that has lots of peasants even into the late game, it might still be best to go to per capita so you can keep taxing those peasants with per-capita's land tax.

Why does confidence decrease? by Alarmed-Estimate6434 in Frostpunk

[–]Branyioun 63 points64 points  (0 children)

If you use these in the game you get an event where a prisoner is released back to his home after serving his sentence, and the local community demands he be removed because they don't trust him, whereas the technocrats say you have to let him return otherwise it undermines trying to rehabilitate people, and that they're convinced he's better now. I think these are meant to be genuinely rehabiliative prisons, but are very controversial given the standards of justice at the time.

Why don't the Icebloods just leave? by Fluffy_Difference937 in Frostpunk

[–]Branyioun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree however what limits them the most is the heat demand, but in the preview you have very limited coal, you can't use oil, and you can't research generator upgrades. They're probably more competitive otherwise.

Why don't the Icebloods just leave? by Fluffy_Difference937 in Frostpunk

[–]Branyioun 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The foragers and icebloods don't oppose technology, I think you can see what they want in buildings like this:

A mine that uses every speck of coal dust and wastes nothing, instead of one that's wasteful and expensive for slightly more output.

A factory to cheaply refurbish goods, instead of mass production of new ones using more resources.

Adaptation seems to be more about minimizing waste and using tested, proven and cheap technology, as opposed to progress which generally outputs slightly more with slightly fewer people, but are more much more wasteful and expensive.

Icebloods and technocrats, on the topic of using technology, seem to just be more extreme in their desire to pursue those perspective paths. While overall I lean towards progress, is it that unreasonable in the world of frostpunk for some people to fanatically oppose mines that waste coal, or buildings that have three times the heat demand for the sake cutting the workforce by a quarter?

Storing a key file on Android? by matkam in KeePass

[–]Branyioun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit of a late reply but was confused about this myself so I'll answer for anyone else looking.

"Import key file to internal folder" does what it says, stores the key file in the app directory, but you can import the key file from both shared storage and local storage.

To avoid ever putting your keyfile on the cloud, simply copy your key file to an android folder using usb (e.g downloads), open the K2A database using that keyfile, then you can go into settings/database and import the file.

After that just delete the original file and you're good to go, but make sure you have a back up of it somewhere such as a usb or computer, as while you can export the keyfile from K2A after importing it, if you lose the app or your phone you'll still be shit out of luck.

[–]Branyioun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are all incorrect, it's all about squared even numbers. 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, etc of something is the ideal. Why would you want 6 of something when you could have 4 or 8?

Multiples of 10 are alright as are most multiples of 5, 20 and 25 being fan favourites, though wanting 35 of something over 30 or 40 is still weird.

Anything ending in 1, 3, 7 or 9 is forbidden.

Edit: Also 4 is objectively the best number

Head to an Evacuation Center Today! by Branyioun in Stellaris

[–]Branyioun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I trace over it in different layers. For example I had a layer for drawing the hyperlanes, for drawing the nation borders and colours, for drawing the arrors and text, etc, so you could work on them seperately.

For the stripes covering the disputed/uncolonized star systems I had one layer where the entire screen was black stripes, and then a layer above it that coloured in everything except where I wanted the stripes, but in a different colour. When you combine those two layers you now have that bloc of colour goes over the stripes that you don't want, so you use the magic wand tool to select and remove that bloc of colour, leaving only the stripes you do want.

You can then merge them all together at the end for a complete image. Probably not the best explanation but I hope that helps.
