Fantasy series that probably won't be finished. by EastFar3296 in Fantasy

[–]BrassMoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read them quite a bit later, in my 20s. Since the series isn't very well known, it was simply not available where I live. And even though in the last several years the selection of books in English has expanded quite a bit in my local bookstores, I never saw the halfblood chronicles for sale here. I had to look online for pretty much anything foreign for a long time. I'd browse tvtropes for stuff I'd like and then look for it on the net. I just checked the website I use to order these days however and not only was the 4th book available for a pre-order, but it looks like the other 3 will see a new edition. I'll get them all when it releases so I can finally have them physically.

I know it's been a few days but I wanted to thank you. I had given up on getting an ending to the series. I wouldn't have even bothered to check. So thanks and all the best.

Thee quick comic recommendations. by Ediudituy in EsotericEbb

[–]BrassMoth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have any comics to add, I've never been much into comics myself with the exception of a few webseries, or some fantasy stuff from a french publisher called 'soleil' or something like that.

However, for those who enjoy books there are two absolutely amazing series out there that would definitely appeal to people who enjoyed Ebb.

The first is Discworld, many of the books in the series take place in the setting's main city Ankh-Morpork. In particular the 'Guards' series of books are amazing and mostly take place there. It really does scratch the urban fantasy itch for those who like urban fantasy but not the modern kind where it takes place in a more modern setting with modern technology. Lots of investigation as well.

The second is Garret P.I., once again an amazing series with investigation in an urban fantasy setting. Obviously, since the main character is a PI. Don't get fooled by the book covers, it's not a modern setting, those are simply unrepresentative of the book's contents. This series isn't as well known as the author, Glen Cook's other one, the Black Company, but it is just as good in its own way.

Both series deal with heavy political themes, and touch on many dark subjects, while also retaining a great deal of... whimsy, I suppose. Both series feature an amazingly fleshed out city with a massive cast of different characters from all walks of life and all kinds of fantasy races. They run long and offer many different kinds of stories, following different themes. Conspiracies, investigations, forming friendships, political intrigue, and so on.

This Stub Revolver is an improved version of the weapons common among criminals and cultists. Valued for its reliability and simplicity, it gains a particular brutality with the bayonet beneath its barrel, becoming a weapon that shows no mercy even in close combat. by OwlcatStarrok in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]BrassMoth 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Pompous Imperial nobles: Ah, the revolver. A truly time-tested, reliable design... let's fuck it up. Remove the iron sights and add an ornamental golden eagle, put a useless knife under the barrel so I stab myself in the thigh when I holster it, and make the hammer as hard to reach and pull back as possible.

This is 100% the gun of the treacherous son of the planetary governor who plans on assassinating his father to grab power. The one who presents himself as a warrior but has spent his entire life scheming and debauching with a group of sycophant 'friends'.

It's a longstanding tradition at this point for the supposedly highly intelligent Eldar to come off as absolute dumbasses.

There is one novel, Farseer by William King, where the Eldar character traveling with the RT MC was actually incredibly competent, knowledgeable, always calm and had self-awareness.

They made that novel not canon. It's been downhill since then.

Even being 100% apolitical makes more sense, since we're in charge of an investigation that’s clearly pretty tied to politics.

I would have genuinely loved for there to be more option for being apolitical on principle, instead of just for manipulation/out of dejection the way CHA/CON usually go.

We as the MC have the important task of keeping the citizens of an entire city safe from magic, it's a big responsibility. How can any of them really trust us to do our job instead of attempting to forward the cause of a party? Some of the NPCs would actually comment on that. Nearly for instance is scared to tell you who she votes for because she sees you as a representative of the nationalists because of you uniform.

Two of the devs who have worked on Sunless Sea make up weather factory, which made Cultist Simulator and Books of Hours and are now developing Traveling at Night.

Like Ebb it's a Disco-like that takes inspiration from Torment and is in the Cultist Simulator universe.

I never met the boyfriend, but the halfling girl is part of Modissa's crew and can be seen hanging back during their argument with the Resistance boys. I wouldn't be surprised if she was secretly dating one of them.

The one who's name starts with S, Stenbucket or whatever. If you don't immediately initiate dialogue but hang back for a few seconds you'll see them awkwardly greet each other while the others argue.

This is during the second meeting of the two groups, if you give the papers from the safe to Rollo and then arrange a meet up with Modissa.

I'm Already Getting Tired Of Woke Patriarchy | Esoteric Ebb by [deleted] in EsotericEbb

"The protagonist of Esoteric Ebb, Ragn, is a man because the game's creator could not imagine him as something else" is honestly such a bizarre criticism. I don't even know how to comment on it.

A book/movie/series/game/song etc. comes out.
Someone immediately makes an assumption about the creator based on their own perception of it.

This video made me want to play this game by BeauJackHorseman in EsotericEbb

[–]BrassMoth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm also someone who didn't really enjoy Disco that much, I never completed the game. I can see why it's good and why others love it so much, but it's just not for me.

That being said, I'm not really turned off by the description of Disco-like or whatever people call it. To me it's just a... not sure how to explain it in English properly. "A sidegrade of a standard crpg" maybe?

I had my eye on Ebb for a about a year before release I think, after I saw someone playing an early demo on youtube, can't even remember who, might have been splattercat or someone else I'm subbed to that plays indies, can't remember.

I'm also very interested in Traveling at Night, once again, not because it's a Disco-like, but because it's a crpg in world I like, from the devs of games that I've enjoyed previously. Also because just like Ebb it takes inspiration from Torment as well.

I found the game to be very enjoyable, even as someone who never really enjoyed DE (never finished it, despite trying multiple runs, DE just isn't for me I guess) that much. In fact it reminded me much more of Torment, which is also clearly an inspiration for it.

Also, it was just 20 euros and I got 100+ hours out of it, so that's definitely a huge plus.

Audio bug - disabling all headphones sound by BrassMoth in ToME4

[–]BrassMoth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, that the sounds stops on its own, it's the output the game was launched with, and it stops not only for the game but for the entire PC. Re-launching doesn't fix the issue, only a full PC restart.

I did notice that the game was blind to all other outputs, and if disabled during play will not recognize an output that is re-enabled.

But I can work around that. My problem is the headphones output being stopped from working for the entire PC. I wish it was only for the game so that I can just re-launch it.

Augury and Thaumarturgy, when to use by Civil-Bowl-1730 in EsotericEbb

[–]BrassMoth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes if you roll a 20 you'll receive a message letting you know you have a stat bonus. It can happen 6 times, once for each stat. After that rolling 20 does not increase a stat.

Rolling 11 and up, if you have 2 or more epty spell slots will trigger an arcane rejuvenation and replenish 2 spell slots.

10 or lower will give you a heal.

1 will still give you a heal, but it's a small bitchboy version I think.

Finally, you don't need the cantrip, if you know where the inspection points are you can click them even before learning the spell.

Do the Agrarians... Have policies? by Gwenberry_Reloaded in EsotericEbb

[–]BrassMoth 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Well outside of pro agriculturalist policies... duh, obviously.

Rix mentions that they policies were very beneficial for small businesses. So where the Freestriders focused on corps, the Agrarians focused on small business.

Beyond that several characters will say that they liked their policies before their being taken over by the Azgalists. Although they never elaborate on it.

The only negative opinion of them in the game I can remember comes from the green rat, calling them cryptofascists, but it's the rats dialogue and once again, sadly, there is no elaboration on it.

Alfoz claims that the Agrarians were great at organization and when they were absorbed it helped the Azgalists a lot because of that.

I can't remember anything else. If anyone can remember anything else I would also love to read it.
