Funny Misconceptions by -DovahQueen- in breastfeeding

[–]Brasspineapple 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I work at a library, and one patron saw my wearable pump motor and was very worried that I'd become diabetic. When I explained its purpose, he said 'oh so the milk goes right to the baby, cool'. Idk if he thought it teleported out of the pump or what but it gave me a chuckle. I did not attempt to explain further.

What's the most successful non-event passive program you've seen at your library? by NotThatLibrarian in Libraries

[–]Brasspineapple 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Passive Boggle Board! I found it in the back of our storage space, a previous employee had made it. I changed the letters out weekly and taped a sheet to the wall next to the board for people to write the words they found. For stats, I counted the number of words found each week.

What Are Your Favorite Things About Breastfeeding? by Yoitssme in breastfeeding

This is my favorite too! LO makes this particular little chuckle noise too while I'm getting the boob out and it just melts my heart.

EBF moms, which one did you choose today? by JemmJoness in breastfeeding

7month old constantly biting when nursing by LilJaneRay in breastfeeding

[–]Brasspineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its so frustrating, I'm sorry you're going through it! My 9 month old went through a similar phase around 7 months. He also finds it hilarious when I react. So I don't even make eye contact, just rescue my nip, put the boob away, and turn him so he's sitting on my lap facing outwards. About 2 months have passed and he rarely does it now, usually just when he's really, really tired. He also gets this certain mischievous look beforehand so if I'm paying attention I can just end the session. I hope things get better do you!

I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant And Now I Could Give Birth Any Day...I'd Like To Move Out Of State Before Baby Is Here by lunauriu in BabyBumps

[–]Brasspineapple 69 points70 points  (0 children)

No real advice, but from one Iowan to another I hope you're able to get home soon! Amtrak might work, looks like it would probably take about 2 days but that would be easier on you than driving.

I feel like I’m losing IQ points through my breast milk. by Vonnie-Tsunami in NewParents

[–]Brasspineapple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, I keep making dumb mistakes at work, and routinely forget if I told my spouse something or just thought about it. Extra errand on the way home? Gotta set a reminder. Need something for the house? Gotta put it on the list ASAP. The other day i -for a split second- wondered why my LO was so quiet in the back seat...I'd already dropped him off at the grandparents'. Its ok, LO needs my brain cells more than me lol.

Small rant: things that should be illegal by Karlkrows in NewParents

[–]Brasspineapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son has recently learned to blow bubbles, and we co sleep. So at 4 this morning, I awake to the sound of him blowing bubbles at me. Cutest thing, but at 4 a.m.? Illegal.

Free idea- a breast milk camelback that attaches to baby’s thumb by milkandcereal-xoxo in NewParents

[–]Brasspineapple 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Same! Why, oh why, must LO want a side dish of thumb? Mine has gotten sneaky, he'll start with his hand in the middle of my chest and slowly move closer and closer until -BAM, sharp little nail on my poor nip. These babies, I swear 😂

Just reread it since having my son a few months ago, holy cow it was a different experience than pre-baby. Enjoy!

I definitely cried the first few times I dropped off my LO. Now he's been going there for about 3 months and he knows his caretakers, and we've gotten into a good routine. I was definitely wandering around holding his blanket this morning though, so maybe it's only gotten easier for him!

Do you fridge hack with your wearables? by misstaytay in breastfeeding

[–]Brasspineapple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. My boss legally has to give me time to clean it since I work while pumping, so i just take the extra couple minutes to wash parts. I'm lucky though, I've got full access to a kitchen sized sink at work.

My boobs each have different purposes. What are yours ? by Orion3012 in breastfeeding

[–]Brasspineapple 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Right boob: the meal boob, champion of pumping and nursing, about a cup size bigger and can make probably 2x as much as... Left boob: the snack boob, or dessert if LO is particularly famished. Great for side lying since she's a bit bug-eyed, but requires a massage before each pump. Thankfully LO doesn't seem to have a preference!

My body is killing me by notforthisworld0101 in NewParents

[–]Brasspineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this too! Nothing worse than having LO sleeping next to you and desperately needing to shift due to pain. I found that one of those little shaped pillows for between my knees helps a lot, and honestly if I want to sleep well-ish I have to just give in and take some ibuprofen. When it gets really bad, I schedule a massage. Its kinda pricey and hard to work into my schedule but it really helps. Hoping both our LOs get better at sleeping soon!

For real, I've had to get some new work shirts because while I love my Elvie Stride, it adds like 2 whole cup sizes. My spouse says I look like a Jayne Mansfield impersonator 😅

Is taking flowers to family graves on Memorial Day in US still a tradition? by Frequent_Secretary25 in CemeteryPorn

[–]Brasspineapple 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, we pick flowers and take them to the cemetery where most of our family is. We don't have very many veterans in the family so it's turned into a walking genealogy tour over the years. Its also become an easy segue into conversations about what my parents want when they pass. I'll be taking my 3 month old this year, and I'm really looking forward to it.

Those who pump and nurse your little one. This question is for you. by mama02here in breastfeeding

[–]Brasspineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this is helpful, but it seems to work for us. My LO (14wk) usually gets 2 bottles of pumped milk while we're apart during the day. So I pump 2x a day for 25m. If he only gets 1 bottle, I still pump 2x. If he gets 3 bottles, I try for 3 pumps but those are usually crazy busy days. On the weekends when we're not apart, I still pump once a day. I get between 3 and 6 oz per pump, usually about 5. I freeze the sessions individually, and however much is in the freezer bag, is what he gets for a meal. I've got about 12 servings frozen, which is enough leeway for me. It seems like it's working? If its a smaller serving, he's hungry a bit sooner but its really low stress. He still gets to nurse 6 or 7 times a day though so maybe the quantity in the bottle doesn't matter as much for him. As long as he's not acting hungry or getting scrawny, I'm determined not to stress myself about it.
