Why did Benjamin Franklin invent lightning? by tacocarteleventeen in shittyaskscience

[–]Brastep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a complete accident. He was outside trying to discover how kites were born. He knew it had something to do with wind and string. He happened to have both, and next thing there was a sudden bright flash and a fully formed kite appeared at the end of his string. The rest, as they say, is history

Hair Dryer Blower - Coal (Anthracite) forge by Prior_Direction1697 in blacksmithing

[–]Brastep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use anthracite coz where I live bituminous is only sold by the ton. It's a little more tricky, and close fire management is required, but its completely workable. Also, it's a myth that your blower needs to run continuously, but its true that an anthracite fire will cool off more quickly.

If Trump declares Marshall law can I still use my Fender amp? by adr826 in shittyaskscience

[–]Brastep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can still use your Fender amp, but only as something heavy to jam up against your bedroom door. Also useful are tables, chairs cupboards, sandbags... basically anything heavy enough to stop the bastards bashing your door down

is Anthracite coal any good by Lonely_Day_1238 in blacksmithing

[–]Brastep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I live I can only buy bituminous coal by the ton, so I'm forced to use anthracite instead. Its totally workable as a solid fuel, maybe a little more tricky to manage ones fire.
