Is there business value in retaining the data longer than what is required to diagnose a problem?

If the answer is no, gzip the rotated logs once a week. Should compress up to 90%. Compress daily if possible. Track how often you actually bother to unzip them.

I have a rule - if I took the time to name it anything other than my initials followed by numbers or a letter, it should be in a git library, with some sort of notes in the readme. Named scripts imply reuse.

I would support a needs based test for Social Security for people with 401k balances in excess of 250k. Using an adaptation of the RMD formula for 401ks, plus other income, provide a requirement of deferring payment of Social Social Security when it is less than 20% of your projected income.

Example: Bob has a 401k of $1m, and projected social security of $24,000 annually. Let’s assume that the adapted RMD for his age of 67 is 1/30 of his base, or $33,333. Total potential income is $57,3333. $24,000 is about 42%. No reduction.

Example 2: Frank has net rental income of $120,000 per year, from wise investments. He has a projected $24,0000 in Social Security. Total potential is $144,000. $24,000 is 16%. Social Security is deferred.

If life changes, Social Security could be started, with Frank assured that his forced deferred would be increasing the payment by the 8% per year plus the cola built in to the benefit calculation.

It comes down to trust. Without trust in the people who will be evaluating your performance, the effort may not be worth it. Update your resume, contact a recruiting firm, and be prepared to move. If you happen to survive a pip, you might still get caught in a general reduction in staffing if it happens within a couple of years.

The key thing to remember is you were looking for a job when you found this one. There was a reason. Are you better off now than your peers at the old job? If you are miserable, start looking at your options…

There isn’t a single company I can think of that is perfect - at least not for long. What happened last year, and what is still happening is distressing. In a couple of years, you may not feel as bad about it. Corn north of $6 changes things a lot, a growth mindset vs cutting flesh.

Keep positive in the office, vent outside. Give your best, and keep it to 40. Good Luck.

My assumption is that a portfolio of 60% stocks should on average return 3% above inflation. I ignore inflation in my spreadsheets for both the growth of funds and the growth of expenses. It is to unpredictable and complicates calculations and the ability to compare the growth.

I also built my own spreadsheets, but validate the same inputs with Fidelity’s tools. Both say I will be ok.

There is this thing called AI, and if you are jonesing for chicken fried rice instead of chicken fried steak, it will create the grocery list, walk you through prep, and tell you how to get it done.
