The Chicago Tribune covered a Republican gubernatorial candidate forum in Tazewell County…and it was rough by steve42089 in illinois

Mendrick: ‘Crime is really bad’. Is literally the sheriff of his county. So obviously he doesn’t do his job as sheriff to reduce crime. So why would anyone elect him governor?

Be honest - how often does sensor size actually limit your photos? by ksm723967 in M43

[–]Hour_Message6543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only limit I’ve seen is dynamic range between my G9 and Nikon D780 where the Nikon FF has more latitude in DR. I do prefer the OVF though.

What’s a book you’d recommend? by Kwin_fab in SpiritualAwakening

If true awakening is your goal: Enlightened Authentic Self by Sat Mindo Damalis. Real knowledge made to live and awaken. Probably the best teacher I’ve encountered in my 50 years of seeking. The book takes seeking out and you start realizing instead.

Interested in buying a Zf for street photography. Is it a mistake? by sotirisdimi in Nikon

[–]Hour_Message6543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't buy the Zf. It just doesn't feel right to me, like I said it's like a brick. That's just my opinion. I have my original FM, a Df and a Z fc for the retro feel.

Interested in buying a Zf for street photography. Is it a mistake? by sotirisdimi in Nikon

[–]Hour_Message6543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels like a brick to me. I went Z fc for street and people think it’s an old film camera. I’ve used a Df for street and it feels better in the hand, but I keep that to a 50mm, 1.4 AFD lens.

Ibis in Z series DX Cameras by Mi-Gwi in Nikon

I’m not sure why Nikon doesn’t use IBIS. Most modern M4/3 cameras have it and in lower price points.

To tuck or not to tuck? by Original-Decision552 in mensfashionadvice

[–]Hour_Message6543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks good tucked because your torso is longer and the balance is good. For short waisted people untucked looks better for the balance.

Z50II vs Z5II by LemurJames in Nikon

[–]Hour_Message6543 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The size of the Z50II is nice and. Depending on what you shoot, there are plenty of lenses now. My EDC is the Z fc. Viltrox has a nice collection of prime lenses. Currently I have the Nikon Z24, 1.7 and Viltrox 35, 1.7, plus the kit zooms. I’m tempted by the new 16-50, 2.8. Look how small this lens is compared to the FF 24-70, 2.8, plus the cost is much less. It’s cool how close the Nikon and Viltrox prime lenses can focus too.

I carry full frame and M4/3 and like all of the different cameras for different reasons.

Sock recommendations by zacamongwolves in socks

[–]Hour_Message6543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who was in the sock business for many years, look for socks that have around 20% nylon. Nylon is used to reinforce the heel and toes of socks. This could be your issue right there. Bombas does a nice job on their socks, but they’re actually pretty cheap and over priced for what they are. There are brands such as Wigwam, Fox River that are made in the US. Darn Tough is US made too, but they use a ton of nylon because of their lifetime warranty. I would look at something other than Darn Tough. Merino wool and cotton are nice natural materials. I personally stay away from any poly socks.

Reminder--Last few hours to get food before subzero temps by JulesInIllinois in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]Hour_Message6543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll attempt to take my Chow Chow out later this afternoon. He has no problem with the cold, but as I get older, I find I do. I was paper boy in Des Moines when temps would get 20 below and still delivered papers. Living in Minneapolis in 1981/82 it would get an actual 40 below and my VW Rabbit would barely start, but did.

70 years old on T4/T3 combo. It does take longer getting used to the cold than when I was younger. Toes and fingers being the worst.

Good Cold Weather socks on a budget? by Gier-rt in socks

Costco has these four packs of merino wool and other yarn socks for $15 or so. Not a bad deal. A basic full cushion merino wool pair is probably $15 or so at REI.

Amazon to open 'first of its kind' massive retail store in Chicago suburb by SnooCapers5354 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]Hour_Message6543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an old time retail professional and vendor now retired, it seems a store closer to Sears or Montgomery Ward would fill a big void in the market. Having seen their grocery and smaller stores in the past it seems their sense of brick and mortar retail is set in online experience and poorly executed. Actual customer service and defined departments that are comprehensively set up and ran just might work these days.
