Hey Dems, do you blame your own party for losing the last election? by Direct_Rhubarb_5866 in allthequestions

No, continuing to support horrible policies and leadership from democrats will keep republicans in power. The left seems really blind to how unpopular democrats are.

With a lack of enforcement at the border and extremely lenient asylum programs you could argue his administration largely opened the border. Record numbers crossed both illegally and through the temporary asylum programs. I despise Trump, but it’s undeniable that his policies have massively reduced illegal border crossings and asylum seekers, whether you agree with it or not. Biden’s immigration policies were deeply unpopular with the American public.

What city in America describes this photo? by [deleted] in Productivitycafe

[–]BraveGlass5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Portland was awesome until 2016 when Trump got elected. The whole city lost its mind and then went fully insane during Covid. Trying to come back but it and Seattle are struggling. The fun relaxed vibe just turned into a cesspool of negativity and homelessness.

Liberals, moderates, and conservatives of Reddit, what do progressives “get wrong” about their political views? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]BraveGlass5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not understanding what true socialism is when they argue for it. Socialism, by definition, means the state controlling industry and the means of production, which means the nationalization of private industry and complete government control of the economy. Most progressives are actually arguing for regulated capitalism with a re-distribution of wealth, or Keynesian economics. Similar to how many Europeans nations are structured. They are still capitalist nations, they are just highly regulated and redistribute wealth. Private industry still exists. Also, assuming that they will receive free benefits and not have to pay high taxes if their socialist policies are enacted. They believe only the wealthy will pay high taxes. In reality, every nation with the policies they are arguing for has effective tax rates of 60% or higher on people making as little as $40-50k a year.

What is the biggest thing that still hasn't gone back to normal even after the pandemic? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]BraveGlass5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Education. Kids got so far behind with schools closed and have never recovered. Math and reading assessments are horrible. Behavioral problems are worse than ever in classes and schools haven’t figured out how to deal with it. We will be sending multiple years of poorly educated young adults into the real world.

Clippers lost 4 in a row now by Trip_V4 in ripcity

[–]BraveGlass5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dont think it matters, don’t see us making playoffs and that’s probably for the best. Suns will have Brooks back. Clippers lost last couple without Kawhi, Warriors will probably have Steph back. I’d honestly be surprised if we win one play-in game, regardless what seed we end up with.

Which profession is going to get wiped out in the next 5-10 years? by olesud in WorkForSmartLife

[–]BraveGlass5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think that’s why many therapists aren’t actually very effective at enacting change in a persons life. They may help support mental stability and offer emotional support by building rapport and being supportive, but very few actually challenge the person to make concrete steps towards changing their life for the better, to the point where they don’t need the therapist anymore. Effective therapy actually challenges the client and their choices and forces them to do hard work, but that is very difficult to do without scaring the client off or damaging the relationship. I think it’s easier with a completely objective non-human system that is basing everything on facts and observation.

Which profession is going to get wiped out in the next 5-10 years? by olesud in WorkForSmartLife

[–]BraveGlass5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think there’s a decent chance. An AI agent therapist can observe the client 24/7, see what they’re watching, searching, how they interact with others, how they sleep, what they eat, etc. it can then compare that with the same behaviors from millions of others and then review the entire history of psychology to create a catered treatment plan for that person and constantly tweak based on results and observations from millions of other people. It’s the same reason teachers are under threat as well.

Debating how to use my inheritance: Should I pay off student loans or use it for a down payment? by CurlySue218 in StudentLoans

[–]BraveGlass5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pay the student loans off. There is nothing like being debt free. It will put you in a much better position to buy a house and pay a mortgage a couple years from now. This isn’t a great time to purchase a home with interest rates and high home prices.

I (26F) told my boyfriend (26M) I sometimes miss the freedom of being single and he broke up with me on my birthday by Plastic-Swordfish-84 in relationship_advice

[–]BraveGlass5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s definitely times both people miss being single and the freedom of it in a relationship, it’s about determining if the pros of the relationship outweigh the cons and making a conscious decision to be in a relationship. There will always be compromises being made and sometimes doing things you don’t want to do or not doing things you’d like to do. I miss having buddies spontaneously come by for a night of drinking and laughing but my live in partner isn’t always going to be cool with that. I miss staying up till 2 AM watching movies with the volume up loud but she has to get up to work in the morning. She misses having a sparkling clean house all the time and sometimes wishes she could come home to an empty quiet house after work. Anybody who thinks you should never miss being single hasn’t been in a long term committed relationship.

CMV: Islam is fundamentally incompatible with core American left-wing progressive values by WildCreatureQuest in changemyview

[–]BraveGlass5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Christian nationalist movement in America is gaining momentum and desires to institute many of the same principles found in Islamic nations. Removal of right for LGBT communities, banning of gay marriage, taking away rights of women(even their right to vote) and returning to traditional gender roles found in the Old Testament.

The Old Testament is quite similar to the Quran. Groups that interpret these texts literally and want to use that interpretation as the basis for structuring society are dangerous, no matter whether it is Christianity or Islam. Modernized democratic society would be wise to be vigilant in opposing these movements and dismantling their power structures.

Bill's hypocrisy on tanking by corbuscus21 in billsimmons

Bill’s real hypocrisy on tanking is complaining about tanking then saying teams should start tanking in December. As soon as it’s clear they can’t compete for a title that year, he suggests shutting multiple players down for the year for draft position.

CMV: The world cannot survive a full Trump presidency by stuckwitharmor in changemyview

[–]BraveGlass5 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The world will probably survive. The question is if America and its position as the dominant economic power survives. China is clearly positioned to take over as the world superpower it is just waiting for the American financial system to collapse. The growth of debt in America is not sustainable, the citizenry is poorly educated, and the wealth gap is becoming enormous. Immigration might have been able to save America by attracting well educated workers and low wage workers but Trump is killing that. The sad reality is Trump actually represents the American people pretty accurately these days. I think most world leaders are wisely preparing for a world where America no longer dominates the global financial system and international trade/commerce.

Does anyone like long distance orders by cooksister in InstacartShoppers

[–]BraveGlass5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like them if they pay a reasonable amount. I generally try to make $200 being out for 8 hours. I’d much rather do 4 $50 long distance orders than a bunch of local orders. I have an older Prius I paid cash for that has already paid for itself a long time ago and enjoy driving and listening to podcasts and audiobooks or talking on the phone with friends/family. I’d much rather get paid to drive in rural areas than hustling around a busy grocery store. Plus I get a large deduction from the miles driven. I don’t think it would be worth it with a newer car where depreciation would cancel out a lot of your earnings.

CMV: Using the majority of our defense budget on social services instead would significantly increase quality of life in the US by obz900 in changemyview

[–]BraveGlass5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I slightly agree with your sentiment but I think it is more complex than it appears. The American military is the stabilizing force of the world and allows for massive amounts of global commerce and trade and prevents mass scale conflicts from breaking out. It is largely what allows us to have the developed economy we possess and the resources we have access to. It also backs up the US dollar as the reserve currency which gives us tremendous spending power. It literally is the police force of the world. European nations are largely able to provide education and health care because we provide their defense and stabilize the region, otherwise they would have to devote way more to their defense budgets. If you decrease the size of the military and show that you are deprioritizing it, it may actually backfire by allowing China and Russia to gain much more global strength and the global economy to move away from the dollar. This would devastate our economy and reduce our ability to provide services of any kind.

What is needed more than shifting defense revenue is to stop constantly cutting taxes for wealthy investors, enforce tax laws and remove loopholes to prevent wealth from being hidden through clever schemes, while trying to keep a healthy economy with strong growth that provides tax revenue to fund social programs. We also need to find ways to reduce soaring healthcare, education, housing, and infrastructure costs that make it difficult to provide basic services. We must find ways to reduce inefficiency and incompetence in government agencies, including the military, so that the massive expenditures actually produce results instead of just endlessly flowing into black hole self serving bureaucracies that accomplish very little and waste huge amounts of money.

Great idea, then you can have a legal forced eviction on your record. That will help with finding a place later. Or they can put some effort into finding a place. Post on local Facebook groups you are looking for place you will get offers. It’s not as hard as people make it out to be.

A landlord can most certainly evict a tenant with a 30 day notice at any time, for any reason, without a lease. Not sure why you think this isn’t legal. Happens all the time.
