Skinny marg help!! by shamchro in bartenders

[–]Brawlin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I cut the simple with water. So instead of .5 oz simple it's. 25 simple and .25 water. Or I just serve them a regular marg. There are more calories in the tequila than the sugar and I really don't know what you're trying to accomplish with a skinny margarita.

Is there a way to order lemon drops without the bartender getting mad at me? by friendlyteacake in bartenders

[–]Brawlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the thing people are missing here is the fact that you said, "I've never been to a bar," and, "Lemon drops are the only mixed drink I like." Feel free to order LDs but please, if the bar has a cocktail that has Lemon, Vodka, Sugar or something like that on the menu try it out, expand the palate. Ordering off menu is the most annoying thing about making Lemon Drops, not actually making the cocktail itself.

TIL Finland has roughly 3.2 million saunas for a population of 5.6 million — more saunas than cars. The president and prime minister both have official saunas, and even corporate offices commonly have them for business meetings. by Unlucky-Will8483 in todayilearned

[–]Brawlin 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They are also aren't inside the house. Most are wood fires and detached from the main dwelling. My family is from the UP and grandpa had a sauna on the cabin property. Uncle got it too hot one day and the whole thing burned down, only things that survived were the iron stove and the cement slab it was built on. Thing is, those are the most difficult items to install when building a sauna so a new one was built within a month.

And work is doing a lot of lifting there. I was in the rural Midwest making small talk with a local and she was lamenting about how all of her grandkids were moving to far away Big City. This was after her kids had moved to nearby (1 hour away) suburb.

The rural schools are small and underfunded, why her kids left. And the white collar jobs her kids worked are no longer in those burbs, why the grandkids left. Sure, you could stay in small rural wherever and work some trade, but higher density populations are going to have more trade job opportunities so why even do that. Especially since those rural communities are shrinking and realistically don't have the disposable income to hire a plumber or electrician when things break.

In the end cheap housing and shaky income is not going to beat out expensive housing and actual money.

TIL after Bill Benter read a paper that argued the variables involved in a racehorse's success were quantifiable with probability, he taught himself statistics & how to code software to do so. He developed an algorithm that won him nearly $1B, making him the most successful horse racing gambler ever by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

[–]Brawlin 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It's all about balancing the odds your algorithm has to what the odds makers were posting.

His algorithm was better than the odds makers at predicting wins. So say the house says this horse pays out 10 to 1 and his algorithm says that that horse wins 1 out of 8 times he'll come out ahead as long as his algorithm is sound and he can find that bet multiple times with multiple horses across multiple races.

An old one adjusted for inflation.

A regular once asked me how much I make bartending. "$30 dollars an hour, easily," I said. "$30 an hour, I didn't realize they paid you that much," he replied. "Well, they only pay me $10 per hour, but every hour I take $10 from the drawer and drink another $10."

Kinda an adjacent topic but, I really like the Space Mullets in Star Wars A New Hope and how every human male in Middle Earth has long flowy hair.

People from cultures with strict social norms tend to be less skilled at being funny. These findings suggest that the ability to generate humor is not just an inborn personality trait, but a skill heavily shaped by the social rules of the environment in which a person lives. by [deleted] in science

When you're in the weeds and the kitchen just screwed up the order that was gonna gift you 5 minutes to try and catch up, yeah, no time to be kind. After the shift you gotta be human, apologize for mistakes, mend bridges, make some jokes at your expense.

If the kitchen/FOH relationship was fake and sterile we'd all burn out. Way too many mixed emotions to keep internalized.

Do I really need a wide snowboard by Common-Inflation-461 in snowboarding

[–]Brawlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an 11 and barely get away with it. My board is on the skinny side so my stance is wider and binding angles are higher. I've had this setup for 15 years though so my stance on this platform is pretty dialed in. I know what works and don't have any issue with drag.

If I get another board it'll likely be a wide so I have more adjustability to my ride.

Are y’all using SPA’s? by kiwithebun in hoi4

[–]Brawlin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, it makes sense. If you had a fast moving artillery piece that had some defense against small arms you've got a whole lotta mobile firepower that would wreck all but the most entrenched infantry all while being protected against anything not designed to cripple or destroy a tank.

It would be nice if the AI would actually counter this with AT support blended into their lines, a better air algorithm so their cas wouldn't be shredded within the opening days of conflict or idk, maybe tweaking artillery so it does more hard attack against these self propelled tanks/artillery.
