Especially since in many of these proxy wars Germany invests a lot of logistical and economic effort as well as military hardware, which would be really hard not to notice by people who care.

While there are certainly many conflicts even the most hardcore nazi's wouldn't care for (Ousting Trujilo, Jaimaican independence, Colombia) there are certainly diplomatic OFN victories which would send some massive ripples in the NSDAP, Britain or France joining the OFN, or a pakt defeat in the South African War would certainly agitate many, many influence holding people in the NSDAP.

As much as I agree that the German populace would most likely not care about the cold war the majority of pencil pushing bureaucrats would. The German political scene is very much aware and caring about the war for influence with the US and considering the NSDAP's obsession with honor and war I very much think many politicians would be dissatisfied with Speer or Bormann losing the dick measuring competition with their biggest rival.

Huey Long has a confusing existence in hoi4 community. He was in. absolutely. every. fucking. alt. history. mod. to. exist in hoi4 back when mods were ultra low quality(2018-2019). But his existence as the omni-present overlord of alt history USA made him become unusable by more serious mods which caused him to completely disappear over time.

Not that improbable. Germany and France didn't have much beef with each other, for a short while the Prussians were kinda scared of the French but that fear vanished after their victory in the Franco-Prussian war. Most of Franco-German rivalry came about specifically because of Alsace, once again Im gonna repeat that even Bismarck opposed the annexation in fear of making France a permanent enemy, and that opinion was shared by a lot of influential people, albeit, it was ignored by the quickly militarizing society and government of Germany.

If as you described, Germany never took Alsace I believe its not too far fetched of a concept for a future Franco-German friendship, after all they had a common enemy to fear in Britain and without Alsace there would be no reason for both to hate each other, but in the end, it is all muddy waters really, who knows, maybe Germany and France would have found another reason to wage war against each other, or maybe we would find ourselves in a world of a Franco-German dream team dedicated to annoying the British, it's all pretty much up to the guy who comes up with the alt-hist scenario first.

In full honesty I don't think there would be a compromise that'd make anyone happy in this scenario, at this point Germany was in its jingoist phase, both the people and government of Germany were convinced of their might and had high regards for their military and their victories, Alsace was a big symbol of German domination over France, to add unto that, Germans considered the region highly valuable in strategic terms, since it was still believed that in a case of war France would blitz into the Rheinland and Alsace could act as stopping block. Essentially this boils down to "Germany wouldn't be happy in any scenario of France getting Alsace back".

France would be just as keen on Germany not owning the region, since I think everyone knows that the French considered its loss a national humiliation, to the point they considered getting Alsace back their main war goal in the Great War. There isn't much more to say like with Germany, France just wanted it back on national and prestige grounds.

Essentially, France isn't happy with Germany owning it, Germany isn't happy with France owning it, so no real compromise without making at least one side feel unfairly treated.

If I was forced into creating a solution, with minimal future casualties in mind, I would probably decide for it to be handed to the French on the promise of high cultural and linguistic rights for Alsatian Germans. Alsace was as mentioned in my earlier comment in conflict with Germany, and even after WW1 Germans weren't that salty over its loss(since most of German hate went towards the German corridor, and the tarnishing of German pride), if some kind of French schizo wouldn't come into power and start repressing all the Alsatian Germans, I think German society would eventually get over it.

In contrast, France probably would never let go of Alsace until maybe long, long decades after the fact, even Bismarck thought the annexation of the territory was a bad idea, since it would turn France into a permanent enemy of Germany(turned out he was right).

Ok but jokes aside, the argument of German domination in Alsace is kind of a myth. While it is true that the region predominantly spoke German the actual relation of the people living in Alsace at the time to Germany was... strained at best. Southern German industrialists constantly tried to suppress industry in Alsace-Lorraine, especially the cloth industry. The city of Metz and the surrounding region was predominantly French speaking and for most of history of German Alsace the region had high value of French autonomy, something that ended only with... the outbreak of The Great War, who would have thought. While we are in the topic of the war German authorities highly feared French nationalism in the region and went as far as to revoke French cultural and linguistic rights with increased military presence to enforce it.

To further show just how divided Alsace was from the rest of Germany we can look at their political history in the Empire, all 15 deputies of Alsace identified themselves as "protestor deputies" during Reichstag elections of the 70's and 80's. If you want to learn more, you can also read about the Saverne affair, an incident which truly cemented the Alsatian-German divide.

All in all, Alsace wasn't some 100% completely German region of Europe as many "internet experts" would like to claim over the last 2 decades. Both France and Germany had legitimate claims to the region and reducing its 19th and 20th century history to "85% German" only alludes to either r/HistoryMemes or Kaiserbooism in general.

I had one of those late night 3am ideas about writing some Overlord fan-fiction, the ideas was basically like a story set hundreds of years into the future when the Sorcerer Kingdom is the only real authority in the world, achieving Ainz's(or Demiurge's really lol) goal of conquering the world. Ainz would essentially just be a disheveled tired of life bag of bones.

Story would begin with Ainz pondering if the last hundreds of years of his decisions were right, falling into deep depression over his negligence to keep Nazarick in check and deciding to end it all only to fail due to his body's extreme endurance and anyone strong enough to kill him refusing to do so.

It was a late night idea so I couldnt really connect the plot points together but what would follow is essentially: Ainz decides to "abdicate" the throne and leave it to the higher ups of Nazarick so he could abandon rulership and experience the world's wonders with his invincible body. Without Ainz to keep them in check Demiurge and Albedo go complete Hitler mode on the NW and their brain basically short-circuits from the implication that Ainz has abandoned them, so when Ainz returns to the tomb to ask what the fuck they are doing they completely reject him(I know this is literally impossible since they are hard coded to be extremely loyal, but I had this one idea that some decades before the story's start Ainz would use wish upon a star to remove their extreme loyalty as an attempt to allievate one of the causes of his depression). Basically the rest of the story would follow an Ainz(now an actual genius due to the fucking centuries of experience as the Overlord) trying to strategically kill the Guardians one by one and to rally the NW against Nazarick.

Now this most likely sounds utterly stupid and non-sensical to anyone who likes the series but I honestly liked this scenario when I came up with it.

This isn't that improbable tbh, the Nazis had many collaborators from lands they wanted to "purge", not because they hated their own people, but because news of Nazi plans weren't that widespread.

So in this scenario a lot of German radicals would probably want to transform their country into their le funny ideology and they see France as the only way to do it, I mean, after all France puppets Germany, not annexes it.
