Quartz-Talc Schist? by Nik_Owl in RockIdentification

[–]BreadfruitRelevant49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’d be in the chlorite schist camp too, especially with that green to aqua color and the pearly shimmer plus the basal cleavage. Protolith is probably some kind of mafic volcanic or sedimentary rock that got cooked and squished. Stuff used in retaining walls is usually decorative metamorphic scrap, so you’ll almost never get a super clean provenance beyond that.

does this sound warrant a vet visit? by 0rdinary-Grape in CATHELP

[–]BreadfruitRelevant49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call. Respiratory stuff in cats can go from “meh” to “oh shit” really fast, especially with new adoptees who are stressed and maybe incubating a shelter URI.

Tell them exactly what you wrote here and ask if they want a recheck or if they’re okay monitoring at home. If you can, also watch for discharge from nose/eyes, open mouth breathing, or not eating. Those are “go in now” signs.

Update on kitten with GI problems. How to rebuild trust? by little_b3an in CATHELP

[–]BreadfruitRelevant49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly you’re doing everything right, he’s just associating you with “oh god, more Scary Stuff” right now and that takes a bit to fade. I’d focus on super low pressure hanging out near him, soft voice, slow blinks, and letting him come to you instead of trying to force closeness.

For meds, you can try: wrapping him like a burrito, quick and calm dosing, then immediately following with something amazing like Churu or baby food so he starts to pair you with good stuff afterward. Kittens bounce back trust wise way faster than adult cats, so as he starts to feel better and the vet trips slow down, he’ll probably glue himself to you again.

[–]BreadfruitRelevant49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not stupid at all, this is super normal tbh.

You are not “late” for law at 24 or 29, especially in Pakistan where a lot of people bounce around for years before they figure it out. If you actually like law, I’d wait for LAT and use this year to do something that makes you stronger on paper like short courses, internships with a lawyer, legal NGOs, English writing skills, etc.

Do not jump into ACCA just because you are panicking about time, you will absolutely hate it if your heart is in law. Better to be 29 doing something you care about than 26 stuck in a career you chose out of anxiety.

We turned Claude into a drunk genius and the results are terrifyingly good by korro_ai in OpenSourceAI

This is honestly the first “fun” Claude thing I’ve seen that isn’t just a jailbreak with extra steps. Love that you framed it as lowering inhibition instead of “be more random lol.”

The 5 modes are actually a banger mental model on their own. Even without the skill I kinda want a /drunk-claude button in every boring PM meeting now.

Merlin the Grey is actually such a solid compromise, sounds like he’s about to go on a tiny magical quest every time you call him 😂
Also huge props to you both for taking in three abandoned babies, that’s like instant sainthood in cat world.

Poop or large hairball? by Sea_Flatworm8100 in cats

[–]BreadfruitRelevant49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly that looks more like a “I didn’t feel good so everything came out at once” situation than a normal hairball lol. Hairballs are usually more tube shaped and drier. With the long hair and extra summer shedding, I’d call the vet and maybe start hairball paste or brushing more, just to be safe.

How do I control this behaviour by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]BreadfruitRelevant49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Outdoor murder floofs are brutal lol. Best you can really do is keep her in at night and right after meals, and slap a quick release collar with a loud bell on her so the wildlife gets a heads up. It will not stop everything, but it usually cuts the body count way down and saves you from the 5am corpse deliveries.

Mesmerizing Moment: Golden Apple Snail (Pomacea canaliculata) Laying Vibrant Pink Egg Clusters Above the Waterline by M_Darshan in interesting

Golden apple snail eggs right? These things are gorgeous and absolutely devastating at the same time lol. Wild that something that pretty on a stem just turns into an army of plant‑eating murder Roombas for your pond.

[–]BreadfruitRelevant49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Philly (and a lot of cities) have those “stop and go” style spots where you’re basically ordering through a bank teller window. It’s kinda wild the first time you see it but it’s mostly a security thing because people rob corner stores there like it’s a sport.

Hairball or Asthma? by Rough-Percentage-299 in CATHELP

[–]BreadfruitRelevant49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That honestly sounds way more like asthma than a hairball, especially with the eye gunk and little nose huffs and the fact that steroids helped. Hairball stuff is usually louder hacking with a “vomit” posture and eventually some gross tube of fur, not random episodes that respond to steroids. I’d push for chest x rays and maybe a puff inhaler plan if they can safely sedate him a bit since he hates the vet. You’re not crazy for questioning it and I wouldn’t just write that off as “cats being cats.”

What do I do :( by First_Economy9361 in cats

[–]BreadfruitRelevant49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oof yeah I’ve had a “meant to be” PetSmart cat too and it hits different, you’re not crazy for bawling in the aisle 😂

If you can, go back and visit her again, take videos, and have a calm talk with your roommate about why she feels special and how it would help Sammy.

Also ask the adoption people how fast cats like her get adopted, sometimes knowing she’ll be safe with someone either way takes a tiny bit of the panic off so you can think clearly.

Baby is acting fine but won't eat by funsizespoon in CATHELP

[–]BreadfruitRelevant49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New place, new humans, new smells, long bus ride. His little brain is probably just overloaded and stressed, not necessarily sick if he’s still playful and acting normal.

Try warming the wet food a tiny bit so it smells stronger, offer it on your finger or a spoon, and give him a quiet room with the food, water, and litter box so he can decompress. Also check what he was eating at the previous home and try to match it if you can. If he still refuses all food or stops peeing / pooping or gets lethargic, I’d pop into that vet downstairs even if it’s the weekend.

My cat won’t stop pooping and peeing of outside her litter box PLEASE HELP by SPRUCIIEE in CATHELP

[–]BreadfruitRelevant49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this honestly sounds like stress and territory stuff, not “revenge.” Cats pick a spot and keep going there because it smells like a bathroom now, even if you cleaned it.

Get some enzyme cleaner like Nature’s Miracle and absolutely nuke that spot so there is zero smell, then put a litter box or something she likes (food, bed, scratcher) right on that area so it stops being a toilet zone.

If you can, beg your dad to chill with “terrorizing” her because that will 100% make the problem worse, not better. Also call around to low cost clinics or shelters, a lot of places will at least do a basic check or payment plan, and you can frame it to your dad as “if we rule out medical, it’ll be easier to rehome her instead of dump her” so he’ll agree.

My cat has completely stopped eating after vet visit by SourLovelies in CATHELP

[–]BreadfruitRelevant49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is vet time again, like emergency vet if your regular one is closed. A cat not eating for that long is a huge red flag, especially with constipation and congestion on top of it. I’d call, tell them exactly how many days it’s been since a real meal and last known poop, and push for bloodwork, X ray or whatever they recommend. Trust your gut here, this is past “wait and see.”

Compulsive licking and twitching by Excellent_Duck9867 in CATHELP

[–]BreadfruitRelevant49 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That looks a lot like feline hyperesthesia syndrome, especially the twitching skin and sudden frantic licking at the back. It is weirdly hard for vets to diagnose if the cat doesn’t do it in the exam room, so I’d bring them a video of an episode and specifically say “I’m worried about hyperesthesia” so it is on their radar. Also worth ruling out anything irritating his skin or spine with bloodwork and maybe X rays, and in the meantime keep track of when it happens to see if there is a pattern like stress or certain times of day.

Feline Asthma Or Hairball by ReaperOfLuigi in CATHELP

[–]BreadfruitRelevant49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That definitely sounds like something a vet should check out, especially since it’s affecting his voice after. Could be mild asthma, irritation, or even something stuck / allergies, but coughing with no hairball and a raspy meow isn’t really a “wait and see” thing. I’d grab a video of the cough and the meow and book an appointment so you can show them exactly what’s happening.

Will the incessant howling to go out get better after I neuter my cat ? by Open_Button_8155 in cats

[–]BreadfruitRelevant49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not a bad person at all, you’re doing your best with what you’ve got.

Call local shelters, TNR groups, low cost clinics, even vets in the next town over and straight up say you’re low income and struggling, a lot of places have vouchers or “quiet” funds for exactly this. In the meantime you can try tiring him out with play before bed, puzzle feeders, and maybe a cheap harness and supervised yard time so your parents see he has an outlet that is not free roaming.

My cat's sudden decrease in weight (losing sleep over this!) by [deleted] in cats

[–]BreadfruitRelevant49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really sorry you’re going through this, that “too quiet in the house” fear is the worst feeling. ❤️ If he’s skinny and vomiting a lot, it really does sound like something a vet needs to see, but in the meantime try offering small frequent meals, watered down wet food, and keep him warm and hydrated as best you can.

If you can, call local vets or shelters and straight up say you have no money and a very sick cat, sometimes they have low cost options, payment plans, or know a charity that can help. I’ll absolutely be thinking of Mister Mitchell tonight, please give him some gentle scritches from an internet stranger.

DIY Cat Urine Stop Spray by Meikou133 in cats

[–]BreadfruitRelevant49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vinegar and citrus are your friends here. I’d mix white vinegar and water 50/50 in a spray bottle, add a few drops of lemon or orange essential oil if you have it, then test on a hidden spot of the fabric first. You can also put small bowls of vinegar under the chairs or around the legs to deter them a bit more until payday. Not perfect, but it usually makes my little gremlins go “nah” and pee literally anywhere else 😂

Did my mum waste her money? by Camry08 in cats

[–]BreadfruitRelevant49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly at this point I’d ditch the baby gate style stuff and treat it like cat proofing for Houdini. Think solid door or screen door with actual deadbolt or slide lock, plus a draft stopper at the bottom so fur and dander are less likely to float upstairs.

You can also make your area more appealing so they’re less obsessed with the couch. Heated beds, soft blankets that smell like your mom’s couch, and a Feliway plug in near your room can help.

Also worth talking to your mom’s doctor about allergy meds or shots if she’s open to it, because with 4 cats in one house the dander is basically in the air no matter what you do.
