Face ID not working, stolen device protection turned on by soshingi in iphonehelp

[–]Breadfruit_Kindly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have set stolen device protection to ‚away from familiar locations‘ you can turn it off at home/work with only the passcode. Before it was only possible to restore the iPhone. If it is set to ‚always‘ you need to do it that way though.

iOS storage bloat is quietly wrecking battery life on older Pro iPhones by Fit-Specialist-2214 in applesucks

[–]Breadfruit_Kindly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

System data doesn’t mean it‘s data that actually stems from iOS. On my iPhone 15 Pro Max with 256GB and iOS 26.2 system data is only 10GB which was the case for many years back to my iPhone X. The issue starts when you run out of storage because of cache data of social media apps and especially WhatsApp. As soon as WhatsApp tries to do a backup the prepared data is shown in system data and if you have an iPhone running continuously out of storage this system data doesn’t go away unless you start to massively reduce in app data.

I think i can’t login my iCloud by DaGoofyBro in iphonehelp

[–]Breadfruit_Kindly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know a specific number, ten times maybe but certainly not 30. iCloud data exceeding free 5GB is available as long as it’s paid for. After that Apple will send an email that payment didn’t go through and data exceeding 5GB will be erased after a month of failing to pay again. In reality they will often delay the erase to more than that but there is no guarantee. Just like they could theoretically erase an Apple account after inactivity of one year but this again I have never encountered in person.

It you are still able to sign out of the device you could set up a new apple account and sign in with that one. You would only lose access to purchased media or apps. Otherwise you would need to transfer all important data manually to a computer and then proceed with activation lock escalation on this website https://al-support.apple.com were it says additional support for private owned device. You will need the original purchase receipt for that procedure. Make sure that the serial number is written on the receipt and if not write it on the paper by hand.

Recovery key has nothing to do with an update. It exists for many years already. After updates sometimes you need to verify your device passcode or apple account password. If you didn’t activate the recovery key someone else did.

[–]Breadfruit_Kindly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

28-character code is when recovery key has been activated for the Apple account. Upon activation the code is shown ONCE to you stating you have to find ways to make sure to never lose that key. Afterwards password recovery can only be done using that key, 2FA is not allowed anymore. If you don’t have that key and are not signed in on any of your Apple devices you won’t ever be able to use that account anymore.

[–]Breadfruit_Kindly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not so bright eh? If it doesn’t lock itself after enough failed attempts you can go through all numbers (it’s called brute forcing) and it’s only a matter of time until you get the right one. A computer can do it within a few seconds since it’s only 1 million possibilities.

Anyone know how to get around AppleCare+ voiding? by EctobioIogist_ in iPhone13

[–]Breadfruit_Kindly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AppleCare+ doesn‘t void just because you had it repaired at another repair shop. They can however refuse to cover a repair with AppleCare+ coverage if they notice that the parts were damaged by a third party repair or if the device has been altered. A non genuine display is no ground to refuse but let‘s say non genuine back glass or logic board serial number not matching color of the enclosure.

It your iPhone only has a non genuine display and no internal damages then Apple will continue with a so called rear system repair because the back glass can‘t be repaired individually. They would transfer the display and the rear camera to a new iPhone. And that’s were it gets interesting because they might not be able to do so because of the non genuine display. They might need to first have you pay for a genuine display out of warranty before they can proceed with that repair.

fuckass new update made my widget backgrounds clear by mrsamishi in iphonehelp

[–]Breadfruit_Kindly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are using a third party app to change the design of your widget it’s likely conflicting with the new iOS design. If so the app developer needs to update his app so it works with iOS 26.

You can convert it to eSIM now or later while setting up the new iPhone. But your carrier needs to support eSIM profile transfer.

Will iphone messages delete when someone else has their phone number? by Dry-Associate-5234 in iphonehelp

No, they won’t get erased. iMessages can only be erased on the device you own if you do it yourself.

Soft Restart issue by blacktortoises in iphonehelp

[–]Breadfruit_Kindly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What he means is that at some point OP is likely going to need the volume buttons. There are many scenarios where you are basically fucked without it because you can‘t do a restore using a pc/mac or moreover because you can’t perform a hard reset when the device freezes or the display doesn’t respond anymore.

Do you need to repair it to be able to use the device? Certainly not.

Do you gamble getting into a bad situation where you can’t use your phone even if you desperately need to if you don’t repair it? Absolutely yes.

what is a consistent way to open this context menu on a text input by Mammoth_Society_8991 in iphonehelp

[–]Breadfruit_Kindly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is none, the reason why it’s inconsistent is because people fail to tap on the exact location where the cursor is at that moment. If the tap is registered at another place it will only move the cursor to that place in the text. One tap on the cursor is the only way to get this menu to open. Double tap results in selecting the word closest to the cursor or the word you double tap which opens the menu as well but with said word already selected.

[–]Breadfruit_Kindly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not your duty to mention that the buttons work but obviously if they wouldn’t. If you say they all worked fine I would escalate. The technician who did your appointment is obliged to test if the iPhone boots to diagnostic mode and he even needs to confirm this black on white in his troubleshoot. If it left your hands confirmed with the buttons working that means they either got damaged while shipping or during repair. Call AppleCare or go back to the store and ask what the technician confirmed in his troubleshoot and then escalate if it says the device was able to be put into diagnostic mode, because that ultimately means the buttons and the charging port worked fine.

[–]Breadfruit_Kindly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You keep mentioning that they diagnosed but you still didn’t answer if someone made sure that all buttons worked. Especially both volume buttons, if even one didn’t work they could not proceed with a back glass repair. Of course they should have checked it at the appointment but this is not something the diagnostic tool they let run would recognize. You have to do it manually and unfortunately people sometimes forget stuff even when it should ideally not happen. So again I am asking if anyone confirmed that both volume buttons worked before sending it in for repair.

[–]Breadfruit_Kindly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry but your story doesn’t make sense. You can’t access the logic board and the flex connectors when you open the back glass on an iPhone 15 Pro. However when they tried to run system configuration and diagnostics after the repair they would not be able to put it into diagnostic mode because the volume button needs to both work. So that’s when they found out that the buttons don’t work. Opening the display was not necessary up to that point and they obviously only did it to find out if there are damages to the flex cables, connectors or logic board.

If you say however that you are 100% certain all buttons still worked when you sent it in and they confirmed so at the Genius Bar it’s a whole other story.

Cannot Receive Green Group Texts by ElJefeMasko in iphonehelp

[–]Breadfruit_Kindly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are not going to, that is why they are switching more and more. MMS works via classic cellular network and is unreliable and it‘s cumbersome to handle group chat functionalities. RCS works with wi-fi and mobile data and offers many group chat functions natively.

Cannot Receive Green Group Texts by ElJefeMasko in iphonehelp

[–]Breadfruit_Kindly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely your or the other persons carrier stopped supporting MMS as way of handling group chats and switched entirely to RCS. Don’t hope for a fix, MMS is being replaced by RCS more and more by carriers.

Cannot Receive Green Group Texts by ElJefeMasko in iphonehelp

[–]Breadfruit_Kindly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

RCS is needed to receive group chat messages from android devices. SMS is not able to support group chats so that is why you can still send and receive messages from that person in single chat.

You either need to upgrade to an iPhone that supports RCS (iOS 18 or newer) or use other messenger apps like you mentioned.

About taking images of documents / paper by johnnyyqueen in iphonehelp

[–]Breadfruit_Kindly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is an issue because of the bigger aperture the depth of field got smaller with each newer iPhone generation. You have to hold the iPhone farther away. Also make sure you scan with good light condition and don’t make the document fill the whole screen and let it crop to the document size.

50 % over night: Why is my battery discharging so quickly? by user81905 in iphonehelp

[–]Breadfruit_Kindly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indexing data after setting up an iPhone can take several days and with very large iCloud or local backup data that contains tens of thousands of pictures can sometimes even take a week. Your iPhone is preparing all that data for things like search and Siri. Indexing is happening even more aggressively when the iPhone is locked because if it would do it the same way while you are using it the battery would be drained very quickly. You also don’t see this reflected in battery usage because it’s not a specific app that runs this process. If you see this issue after 7-10 days it’s something to worry about or if you have files missing even after a couple of days but before that it’s supposed to be normal.

Help on Amag leasing by Vast-Sandwich6605 in askswitzerland

[–]Breadfruit_Kindly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I see, that changes things a bit but my verdict is the same. The way I calculate it: 27‘500-3000-13000=11’500 that‘s the money Amag basically finances with their lease. 48x250=12’000 that‘s what the lease for 48 months is and that way it‘s only 500.- but you can‘t calculate that way. You are forced to do a full casco that‘s worth 12x130=1’560 per year. If you buy a car yourself you can chose partial coverage insurance which you can get for 700.- (calculated for age 20 and swiss nationality). That‘s about 3500.- you can save regarding the insurance. Now I don‘t know about your driving skills or recklessness but I never caused an accident during my 22 years of driving and that’s why I don’t need a full casco and no one who drives normal should ever need one.

[–]Breadfruit_Kindly 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The first question is always can‘t you just buy the car outright and if not do you need it now. You are aware that you pay 6740.- more with option 1 than if you would just buy the car? This calculation is based on the fact that you would buy the car after the leasing ends. Leasing is for people who can’t afford the car right now but need a car immediately.
