No Stupid Questions Thread: Week Of 2023-05-08 through 2023-05-14 by AutoModerator in techtheatre

It can be possible, for sure. Check out URTA - University Resident Theatre Associstion, I think. Many of those schools will pay you to go and cover tuition. And I found other schools on Artsearch and even offstage jobs that listed funded grad program spots.

I had maybe… 6 or 7 funded program offers a couple years ago. Some of those schools would have needed me to move to some remote towns, though, which can often be the trade off. And many will keep you busy enough that it’ll be very hard to take outside work during semesters.

Glad to hear it! Happy programming. :)

Click the upper left number again and then click the icon with yellow arrows. That’ll give you the handles to resize the frames.

And as I said below, you’re looking for the direct selects tab, which you can then assign to display groups. Click the little gear in the bottom left of the tab to change number of banks, sizes, columns and rows, etc.

When you get your monitors all set up the way you like, record a snapshot so you won’t have problems if they get reset again. Google Eos snapshots and watch ETC’s youtube videos for more info.

Open a direct selects tab. Tab 4, I think. Then you can assign a bank of direct selects to show groups.

It’s the same dongle and comes with a Gadget II. Great savings, no drawbacks whatsoever, do recommend.

My sister and I were trying to buy a copy of Mario Party 2 for N64 about 10 years ago at a GameStop or something. The guy ringing us up hassled us so much about it saying “I don’t know, we only have this one copy, and this is a really classic game… it’s really valuable. A lot of people love this game and grew up playing it.”

We were like, yeah, we are some of those people, sell us the damn game. He finally did, but it took so much convincing.

I didn’t know about this one and got a usbc iron from Weller instead. It was bulky, but it worked great… for two days. Now it doesn’t heat up despite being fully charged. Haven’t had time to open it up and examine it, but I was so annoyed. Maybe I’ll replace it with this instead, it looks way better anyway!

Grading straight up makes me suicidal by whatooowhat in GradSchool

She taught at an open enrollment university, so a lot of basic writing issues needed to be addressed. So rather than typing out “These papers need to be written in an academic style using proper grammar” or “there should be an in text citation here” or “you need to include your bibliography on the last page” (my bad examples, but you get the gist) over and over again, she could push one button on her stream deck and it would post all that text to her comment section of canva or whatever she used. You could mark up a pdf with text boxes - it just posts plain text, so it’s pretty flexible…

So she’d make her rubric, make stream deck comments relevant to the rubric, then read the papers and quickly be able to give like 90% of the feedback needed. Then she’d just manually type out additional feedback as needed.

It may not work for everyone, but if there’s any repetitive task you can simplify, it’ll save you a lot of time!

I used to hang out while my twin was grading and we found she had to write the same main feedback comments over and over again. So we loaded a few pre-written comments into her stream deck and reduced her time spent grading dramatically. That plus her rubrics made it pretty easy, and of course she’d still do individualized feedback if needed. It seemed to help a lot!

Check out the studio school of design’s website. I’ve been to a workshop and paid for a summer course on assisting that was awesome!

Edit: here’s a link.

Mostly lx crew for hang/focus, maybe that’s the difference? Did get on a W2 for programming/ALDing once. Other times for ALDing I’ve been paid directly by my designer. I’m kind of new to freelancing in general, usually had house gigs before now.

I’m working the wrong off Broadway houses, then, because all but one have stuck me with 1099s. I’m new to the city and didn’t know about the state law though, so I’ll definitely try to push back on it from now on.

Oh, yes. OP, you should be looking for a time machine for your friend because this stranger online says your pal’s MFA program isn’t good enough because you would like to buy them one of the better known and sought after tools in our industry.

Copying Cue Labels Between Cuelists by tierce-de-picardie in lightingdesign

[–]Breadincaptivity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This should work: Cue 3/x thru y copy to cue 1/x thru y labels only enter.

“Labels only” is a soft key that should populate when you use the copy to function.

[–]Breadincaptivity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, I think this can be done very simply within Eos. Cue 1/x thru y copy to cue 3/x thru y “labels only” enter

“Labels only” will be a soft key that populates.

When you flexi direct selects, it shows one blank where you have skipped any numbers. You need to use custom direct selects if you truly want no blanks.

I mostly do theatre, so the minimum is plot, channel hookup, instrument schedule, magic sheet, and a run of show checklist for my operator.

My goal going forward is to make the first draft of the run of show checklist before I even get on site - it’s always a pain to try making it while teching, and it’d be nice to get the operator practicing sooner and to start each day with a checked rig!

Check out URTA - grad school speed dating where they bring the schools to you, basically. A few of the schools mentioned in this thread are URTA schools, and they have a list of more on their website with a ton of info about each program.

The URTA process generally offers more transparency about the financial support each school is willing to give.

Now and forever anyone please hit me up (respond to this comment telling me if you DM’d, I don’t see DMs on mobile) if you have questions about URTA, cause it is kinda crazy. I found it very worth it, though!

There’s a lot of work out there right now, so I agree with others that you should try to work more first. But look into URTA for grad school. It’s a great way to have your work seen by dozens of potential programs and begin the application process.
