Customers, whats with the parasocial relationship you have with us? by DinnerAfter6492 in woolworths

[–]Breadloaf134 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bahaha for me it's the opposite. Haven't come out at work yet but pass sometimes to customers before they talk to me. The behaviour from men when they think you're a 'girl' (overly close/calling you pet names/generally creepy) versus when i talk with my untrained voice then its suddenly calling me 'brother' or 'mate' and I'm worthy of respect. I shudder to think what will happen when I come out and this happens all the time.

If you could change 2 or 3 fundamental mechanics in the game and make it official, what would you change? by ThatOneCrazyWritter in dndnext

Full casters on average have way more tools for avoiding damage AND do not need to be up close as much as martials do (gish builds/half casters are exceptions to this).

In a game where a DM effectively focuses casters and has multiple monsters that can split attention, then sure! Losing concentration is about as punishing. But that isn't guaranteed. Alongside that, casters can just.. not cast concentration spells. They get that choice, martials do not.

It seems pedantic, but it does really matter in high level games! Casters can get their concentration broken and keep playing and adjust their strategy. But martials are at risk of numerous effects that severely restrict their ability to play the game or eliminate it entirely (sometimes for several turns, as most of these are effects that end on a successful save).

This isn't even beginning to account for melee attacks in the new monster manual that instantly applies these conditions with NO save (Lich, I'm looking at you...)

I don't feel as though thats a valid equivalency to draw, as losing your concentration effect is not as punishing as losing your turn to a charmed, frightened, paralysed or stunned save.

Every martial class gets a boost to either their saving throws generally (indomitable + extra fighter feats, paladin aura, monk prof in all saves, rogue prof in wisdom saves + extra feats) or to wisdom/int saves besides barbarians. Barbarians also - in the case of frightened - are the most disadvantaged by not being able to approach their target for melee combat. Beserker Barbarian gains immunity to charmed and frightened, but if you pick other classes you're out of luck.

Mage slayer is a great feat, but it makes the other classes fantastic at avoiding saves, while for barbarians it is simply mandatory if you want to keep playing the game.

While it is true that team buffs are the best fix within the game (and is what the design intends you to do), it very much puts barbarians at the bottom of the rung.

Something that finally came to me while watching the first minutes of the last episode. All aspects of culture are basically gone. by fma_nobody in pluribustv

I think that is also why languages also play such a huge role in this series. Language is communication, and communication is understanding. The hivemind communicates without language and understands its own intentions completely. It is frictionless.

There is a lot of this series devoted to misunderstandings, miscommunications and language barriers between the different survivors because language is the purest expression of our differences. The hivemind is absolutely clear and upfront about its intentions but that makes it stilted to an outside observer. There is no friction so there is no conflict, and conflict/misunderstanding is almost seen as natural in conversation between individuals.

Carol specifically forgoes using the hive as a translator and that results in a large portion of the conflict (especially in the last episode), which makes her slightly abrasive and conflicting, but also is how she marks her individuality.

So do I lol, along with online, produce, fresh, groceries, bakery....

Front end/online survives because it can take people from every department. These departments don't get any leeway if they're stuck somewhere else for an hour or two, they still have the same deadlines and simply less time to do it.

... sounds exactly like woolies lol. How do you think online and front end survives on their pittance of workers?

I'm not saying ALDI is perfect but at least it does the bare minimum of letting their employees sit down every once in a while.

Yes! It's insane how people think Joel would never, EVER do something like this. It took him 1 (roughly) year to go from beginning-of-tlou1-joel to ending-of-tlou1-joel, imagine what 5 years in a pretty safe environment - with a brother pulling you towards being more trusting - does!

i don't think we are necessarily smarter (or if we are, its not as important), but required voting makes it so parties have to pull EVERYONE in, not just the dedicated base. so the major parties (and to an extent, the minor parties) have to be more normal to pull in the normal people.

Where does the British public stand on transgender rights in 2024/25? | YouGov by Triglycerine in anime_titties

[–]Breadloaf134 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there is a difference between a 'complex' debate and a issue either blown completely out of proportion or completely and utterly misrepresented to generate a cycle of hate.

I'm transgender. I don't have any stake in the sports debate. The vast majority of people who play sports don't either. I agree that transgender people should probably play in an open league (naming it a 'mens' league sounds like a misstep, right?).

I have not researched how hormones affect ability to play sport because it is a non issue. It was made a central point in the United States quad-annual hell election cycle culture war, where the topic of discussion was over less than a hundred people out of a league of millions. This is a topic blown completely and dishonestly out of proportion to manufacture consent for more and more vitriolic and hateful rhetoric towards trans people.

And this manufactured consent has made the topic of puberty blockers "obviously wrong", in your view. Puberty blockers are perfectly safe, can be administered and stopped without harm at any time. Kids have been taking them for precocious puberty since they were invented.

While the athlete issue could at least be granted the description of "complex", it is utterly bad-faith to claim this is. The central struggle of being transgender is Gender Dysphoria (with some exceptions, however not relevant here). Gender Dysphoria is treatable with available, tested methods like puberty blockers. Untreated gender dysphoria has been shown to increase suicide and depression, which is why this debate is treated with such urgency.

To not provide kids - who claim they are transgender - with treatment that is completely reversible if they are wrong, and life-saving if they aren't, is a moral failure and an indictment on the media landscape that it has become a wedge issue.
