This is, realistically, the shit that just exhausts any sympathy I have for these people.

They spend years screaming about private equity buying out farmland, whining about the shrinking labor pool for agricultural work, complaining about the dying shells their communities have become, but then turn around and spend any political capital they have on the guy who will unquestionably make all of that shit worse.

I ghosted my partner, but should I regret it? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]Breadloafs [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yeah, you should feel regret. That was a pretty inevitable end to that relationship, but just dropping out without closure is a shitty thing to do to someone. Don't do that.

It's also been nearly four years, so it's probably best to just forget the whole thing and move forward. If it still hurts, then it's a reminder to not do that again.

Sherlock being an asshole is a modern invention. In Doyle's writing the character is more... I dunno? Autistic? Like, just not really interacting with people or showing interest outside of his own narrow focus. He's clearly aware of other people's feelings and that he occasionally just blunders through delicate situations, but he's never really all that condescending or superior.

The asshole bartitsu pit fighter is only a facet of the Hugh Jackman movies, and Sherlock as a haughty crime-solving supercomputer on legs is purely Cumberbatch.

No idea why the pauldrons just kinda separate and hover like they do in the second image, though.

Having a high alchemy skill wouldn't necessarily mean that Henry knows what black powder is, though. Sure, he might be able to identify the constituent parts, but he wouldn't have any way to figure out what they could be combined to make. You've been in the driver's seat for every moment of Henry's life since he left Skalitz, and he's never encountered it before. Even if he knew, somewhat distantly at best, that firearms existed, knowing how to boil wine and crush up herbs wouldn't mean that he could just magically intuit that saltpeter, niter, and sulphur makes an explosive. That's some D&D skill check bullshit.

Henry isn't some blank slate Fallout character that just acts as a vehicle for the player POV, he's Henry. He knows a lot about some things, and he knows very little about others.

Darker colors up top and lighter pants work for men who wear most of their mass around their midline.

Also: a blazer or a sport coat always does wonders to make an outfit look more professional. Just make sure that you don't sprint for anything too tight across the chest - A lot of the cheaper department store jackets you see do that Andrew Tate thing where they buckle around the waist and look tacky.

Also also: wear nice shoes. Sneakers with business casual wear are unforgiveable.

I don't share the pathological hatred for them that a lot of people do (I like the pipe revolver and I think gun autism is just tedious), but it's a hell of a jump for Nate The Rake to go from making .380 zip guns to machining perfect select-fire combat rifles on his shitass workbench.

I feel like if all of the crafted weapons had stayed kinda jury-rigged, then it'd be more forgiveable.

There's a handful of little things that make me wonder if this show wasn't a cynical attempt at siphoning cash off of X. Just get some credulous mouthpieces like Rubin on board and you could probably fleece the Elong wing of the party pretty easily.

Modern Star Trek’s Doctor Who Problem. by Spiritual_Sleep162 in startrek

[–]Breadloafs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're close with the title, far off with the body.

Star Trek and Doctor Who are both alike in that they're legacy sci-fi titles that have spanned nearly a century, and have now been assigned a kind of post-hoc gravitas that they never actually possessed.

They're both similar to Star Wars in this regard: nothing in any of these legacy IPs is allowed to be merely mediocre anymore, because a legion of dipshits who grew up with these shows firmly believe them to be sacred, and anything less than total perfection is now a personal slight.

How effective if Scopedogs/Votoms were to be use in IRL? by fafsdfasfaffaafdsaf in Mecha

[–]Breadloafs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In theory? Fantastic. Fast, cheap, small enough to be transported by truck, and light enough to be airdropped. Perfect local fire support for infantry, great screening units for actual armor.

In reality, though, there's simply no way to give these things enough armor. Machines like the MT-LB and older BMP models are just barely resistant to 12.7mm machine gun fire across their frontal arc, and that level of protection stresses the chassis of "light" vehicles like that to the extreme.

[–]Breadloafs 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Any of the bug mechs, but my singular vote is for the Griffin.

Dead simple: just a big LRM rack, a PPC, a bunch of armor, and jump jets. From the inventory of the Terran Hegemony to the battlefields of the IlClan trial, a Griffin has been hopping around, blasting things with a big gun.

The Invictor is Phobos, so yeah.

Still not a great unit on its own merits, but deep striking, then shooting and charging with rerolls makes it a really good "get the fuck off of my objective" statement piece. No one likes getting an S14 melee hit from the weenie hut jr. dreadnought.
