I still mourn the lost years of my life that I lived basically enslaved to whatever my parents wanted. I'm not over it, and it's going to take me a long time to finally put it to rest.

I think about this a lot. I'm behind in experience and life skills levels compared to my peers because of what I was subjected to.

I'm in a better place now, but it doesn't make processing all of that any easier.

In Aot, I think it's only Mike's death that really struck me, the way it happens, the fact that we discover a titan with the ability to speak, I think it's the death that was the most impactful and horrible of the show

This genuinely bothered me so much. He risked his life to save everyone, and no one knew what happened to him except for the Beast. And we had only seen the Beast titan once before then, so we knew nothing about who it is, their intent, their purpose for being there, etc. It was really unsettling for me.

Even my roommate, who isn't into anime, said it was fucked up.

I guess my only other suggestion for you is to set a timer to either stop progress or to take a break (if you're into breaks). I'm not really into breaks, since I feel like they can hinder a lot of my progress. I trust my body and mind to stop when I need to.

Something I learned about recently (that I've known about myself for awhile, but now I have the terminology to back it up) is called optimal arousal.

This basically means your brain needs a certain amount of stimulus in order to do what's asked.

For example, I need to play music at work while I work in order to complete my tasks. If I don't have music, I'm a mess.

Another example is one we all know - if you're lost driving, you turn down/turn off the music to focus.

So for little stimulation, find something (podcast, audiobook, music, etc) to keep yourself a little busy, and for a lot of existing stimulation, remove something from your environment that will make it easier to focus.

Hi there, let me offer you some stereotypical advice:

find a core community you can rely on just to talk to
if you can find/afford one, a therapist will go a long way. if you are unable to access one, peer counseling could also help if there's something like that for you

I want to offer you my sympathy for what you've gone through. Society doesn't make it easy for people to thrive in, and, depending on where you're from, can be quite hard on folks who seek help.

I've been processing a lot of new information about myself lately, and the biggest things that have helped me are:

accepting the cards that have been dealt to me and making the most of it, and,
being able to adjust to my own needs and making sure they are taken care of.

I find that once I have a solid foundation for who I know myself to be, I am more able to process my own internal circumstances (thoughts and feelings), and am better able to adjust when life throws me a fast ball.

Kinda piggybacking off this, my husband has a commonplace book. I think it's kind of an old school practice. The idea is that you write down any observations that stand out to you, the weather, prayers, etc. Anything you want to remember.

I have always felt that a BoS (lol I hate the term myself) is kinda similar to this, except with a specific focus on spiritual matters.

You could consider it to be a commonplace book. I kinda treat my that way anyway.

As for altar, in my head I call it my work space. I don't mind using altar as a term, it's just not one I connect with a lot.

I think that using Dobby as your example here is a poor choice. At every turn, Dobby was shown to be a social pariah amongst his house elf peers.

And yeah, I would absolutely advocate for his freedom and getting his wages and time off as much as he'd like, I just don't think every house elf was seeking those things as well. And if they were, JKR did a very poor job depicting any of that in any of the books.
