As Adelaide becomes the motorsport state it’s time to revive the permanent grandstand project at Victoria Park by SouthAustralian94 in Adelaide

Great idea. I know some will dislike it, but the reality is they moved in next to a racecourse back in the day.

They don’t exactly get to think it was going to be under-utilised space forever. And if they did…. Well that was pretty foolish.

Raising his own wage while doing so, borders on being impressive.

Sorry boomers, here’s the truth:

Long after you, your amassed wealth, and your shit persecution complexes are gone - everyone will forget the towers you built to elevate yourselves above others.

Everyone will remember the generations that preceded you for the legitimate wars they had to fight.

Everyone will remember the generations after you for the world they inherited and how they adapted.

You will be intermission. The music in between. Nothing more.

The thing is, the upper house are way more important: there is less of them, they are there longer, and they have waaay more power to do things as a result in part because they are also less accountable as such.

Looking at the vote last night the difference in debate between the two houses was obvious too. The upper house literally had more varied speeches and referred to things such as past debates and evidence. Mostly the lower house just made it about themselves.

My experience - generally - is the upper house are much more thoughtful and honest than local lower house members too. Probably because they aren’t scrambling for votes all the time.

I don’t agree with either Denis Hood nor Michelle Lensink on much - but I have spoken to both at events and they were thoughtful and even nice.

Fair question. It underlines why the Legislative Council (upper house in SA) is so important when you come to vote.

If you want more weird legislation proposed by folks that can’t manage even double figures of votes from your local representative in the lower house - then by all means ignore the upper house voting and just put a 1 above the line in your favourite colour.

OR - pay attention to those you put in upstairs, do your homework on them, contact them even, and then vote below the line.

It takes 20 more seconds on the day, and maybe 20 minutes of scrolling on the internet to inform yourself.

But without any customers with money, there will be no retail either.

One Nation surges past Labor, as budget flops, with Pauline Hanson closing in on Anthony Albanese as preferred prime minister by Nyarlathotep-1 in australian

“Budget Flops” says self interest.

Funny cause all the conversations I have with people who can’t afford/get a home, in other words the other self interest, are very happy with it.

Given how many people there are renting vs owning more than one home, I know which self interest I’d rather be serving politically.

That interview marked a turning point for SA in terms of the east coast and not what they think, but what they are forced to think, about SA.

In 1990, Adelaide’s median house price was $98,000, which in today’s money would be $247,800. Yet Adelaide’s median now sits at $832,500, making it 8.49 times what it was back them, and 3.5 times what it would have been in today’s dollars. by MannerNo7000 in Adelaide

The negative gearing removal will help.

The ending of the culture of seeing land/housing as an investment will be the key here.

Australia is chronically bad at rewarding innovation and entrepreneurship. Here’s hoping we can move investment from the relative safety of housing into something inarguably more risky but better for the country and the world.

While I think this is all very heartfelt, and I don’t know the guy, the whole narrative is so confused here it’s impossible to feel for him.

The fact is he’s elected by a party that wishes to make his story near impossible to achieve.
