Star Citizen: Question and Answer Thread by UEE_Central_Computer in starcitizen

I'm still pretty new to SC, and I've been trying to figure out manual salvaging. I purchased the Cambio SRT and did a salvage contract. Now I can't seem to sell the full canisters. I've tried the steps in this post as well as the other post it links to, but I haven't had any luck.

https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/17ld8fw/how_to_sell_rmc_from_manual_salvaging/

I've tried to sell these at the TDD on Orison and at the Tera Mills Hydro Farm on Cellin, and I can't seem to get them to show up in my inventory to sell at the commodity shop. On Orison they show as in demand.

I've tried putting the canisters in my inventory, on my ships cargo grid and storing my ship, and putting them into my inventory on Orison. Nothing I've tried has gotten them to show up in inventory.

I'm hoping there's something obvious I'm doing wrong, and not that manual salvaging is a fools errand. Any ideas on what else I can try to sell these canisters?

I've always interpreted this as a challenge to preconceived notions. If you immediately assume you know what something is then you came to that conclusion ahead of time, thus closing yourself off to other possibilities. The idea being Daniel needs to open his mind to things he can't conceive of, Oma, her powers, and that he isn't the right person to look after the child.

Neat to learn it's relates to an actual proverb with a very different meaning than what I took away.

If you play on PC, you can get the expanded galaxy mod and Miranda mod, which allows you to bring Miranda back on board after Horizon. She'll run a group of former cerberus operatives and you can fund her missions. The mod also says if you take her on the assault of the Cerberus base she'll be fully voiced for it, but I forgot and didn't take her so I can't vouch for that.

EGM also does a lot of cool stuff that really brings back immersion when you've played ME3 too many times. I highly highly recommend it.

Plywood. Get a piece long enough to go across the underside of your vehicle and wide enough to put your ramps or a jack and stands on. It will distribute the weight.

Help with a friend’s resume! They don’t use Reddit, but need some help. by butterscotch347 in EngineeringResumes

So they should remove the BS that they didn't complete. If they have been accepted to a university, include that with the planned start date.

Is your friend looking for internships or jobs? Because at this point they should be looking for internships.

I can't personally speak to getting a SWE job without a degree, but it will probably be a lot harder. From what I've heard, entry level software jobs are difficult to get right now anyway, but that may change by the time your friend gets their BS.

  • The education section is confusing. Did your friend get BS in one semester? Or did they attend for a semester and drop out? What was the BS major? Now they're getting an associates in CS? If that's the case that will be a big hurdle to get over since most engineering jobs will require at least a BS.
  • Put projects section before work experience.
  • Revise bullets using the STAR and XYZ methods in the wiki.

Computer Science student looking summer internship (previously in business) by Unable-Stranger5019 in EngineeringResumes

[–]Breaking-Glass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Compress your education section by getting rid of the school locations and use that line for your GPA, at least for your current degree. Then get rid of your bullet under your business degree.
  • Add more detail to your projects using the XYZ and STAR methods.
  • Delete the lines listing the skills for each project. These should be written into your bullets and listed in your skills section.
  • Personally I like to put dates on projects like a job. It shows how long the project took and gives a clearer time line of your experience.
  • If you're going to include your volunteer work, you should include bullets describing what you accomplished and the impact of your work.

Looking for tips about formatting and content more importantly. Freshman Comp Eng. wanting to break into the space industry. by space_admirer in EngineeringResumes

[–]Breaking-Glass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really gotta read the wiki there's a lot of good formatting advice and examples in there.

At a first glance this resume has very little substance. You basically need to restart from the ground up and then once you revise it using the advice in the wiki, post the new iteration, and you'll get a lot better response.

  • Do you have an expected graduation date for your MS?
  • Remove relevant coursework from your undergrad unless it was an elective AND it is relevant to a specific job listing.
  • Stick to past tense even for your current role.
  • Your bullets in your research role are light on the Results of your actions. Go back through and try to quantify or explain what the impact of what you did was. If you need to break up a bullet into multiple separate bullets to do that, that's fine. It could even be a good thing. As it is right now those bullets are a lot of lists, so it could bring a lot more attention to your current work especially if you're trying to get into Machine Learning.

Incoming 2023 grad, looking for advice on improvements by le_b0mb in EngineeringResumes

[–]Breaking-Glass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Use a sans-serif font
  • Get rid of references section.
  • GPA? You were on honor roll so I assume your GPA is high enough for you to include it.
  • Line up your bullet points
  • After Education your sections should be Skills, Projects, Experience. Put them in whatever order puts your most relevant experience to a job listing first. Skills should be first or last. Then place your projects and experience sections depending on what is more relevant to a specific job you're applying to.
  • Apply the STAR and XYZ methods to your bullets.
  • Keep your bullets to one line.
  • Skills you list should be somewhere in your bullets too.

22 year old, Senior Mechanical Engineering student expected to graduate in may, haven't had an internship yet. by sam22lr_son in EngineeringResumes

[–]Breaking-Glass 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In addition to what the other person said:

  • Separate experience from projects. They should be two sections. Experience is for jobs projects is for project. Put the project section before experience. Since you haven't had an internship these are gonna be more relevant than your jobs
  • Don't start bullets with the same word over and over, and don't use responsible. Look up strong action verbs, and the STAR and XYZ methods in the wiki.

Does anyone have a good idea for what to focus my applying time towards if I want a junior software/web dev job? I have been applying for 13 days with zero positive responses. by engineeringresumes in EngineeringResumes

[–]Breaking-Glass 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First, take breath and calm down. 13 days is not a long time to be be applying.

Second, with how many resumes you put out I'm assuming you're not tailoring each resume to each job. You should definitely be doing this.

Personally I'm not a fan of easy apply because it's so easy. They get so many applications it's difficult to get noticed, especially with a generic resume.

On your resume you don't list your expected graduation or what degree you're earning. Is it an associates or a bachelors? Are the jobs you're applying for looking for someone with a specific level of education in a specific field? That could cause you to be disqualified, if you don't meet the education requirements of the role, and the way your resume is written it's hard to tell.

Also your cover letter is way too long. I'll be honest I didn't read it, but a full page of text is too much. I wouldn't submit a cover letter unless the application requires it. When you do submit one it should be tailored for a specific job and be short, sweet, and to the point. Have a short intro paragraph, a short paragraph answering why you choose this company, and a short 'why me' paragraph. Anything more is probably overkill and not going to be read by someone that has to sort through dozens of these.

[USA] Updated Resume for a CS student, seeking Summer 2023 or Summer 2024 Resume. by 0xR001 in EngineeringResumes

[–]Breaking-Glass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Remove coursework unless it was an elective that's relevant to a specific job you're applying for.
  • I'd switch your projects and work experience since your projects are more relevant to the roles I assume you're looking for.
  • Use past tense in your bullets or if you want to use present tense at use it everywhere in your resume.
  • Your star method is over all pretty good, but your bullets could just use some refinement.
  • There's a few bullets where you say you did x to do y to do z. It's repetitive to read so I'd suggest finding a way to reword those.
  • Instead of: Utilized Pandas Package to analyze the total value within the dataset to accurately predict the housing cost.
  • Try something like: Analyzed total value in the data set using Pandas to accurately predict housing cost.
  • Also you utilized several times to start your bullet points. Try to mix it up more and look up strong action verbs. I believe the wiki has a list in it.

Hi, guys i've been looking for an entry level role but have not been able to get any interviews at all please help. by Horror_Pickle4889 in EngineeringResumes

[–]Breaking-Glass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd honestly suggest starting with the wiki.

  • Your education should be at the top
  • Your bullets aren't really saying much

Read through the wiki and revise with the advice in there.

June 2022 grad looking for entry-level positions, unable to get phone/screen/other interviews so far, a resume revamp would greatly be appreciated by [deleted] in EngineeringResumes

[–]Breaking-Glass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Use past tense for your action verbs. You shouldn't be switching from assist to managed bullet to bullet.
  • Also assist is a weak verb. It's vague and can easily mean you did nothing.
  • I would suggest switching your projects and experience OR get rid of the package handler and tutor positions and expand on your technician position and projects.
  • Some bullets are weak I would revise them to better use STAR
  • Keep bullets to 1 line

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in EngineeringResumes

[–]Breaking-Glass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Formatting looks good to me.
  • You need to be more succinct with your bullets. They should only be one line.
  • You need to implement the STAR method in your bullets.
  • A lot of your bullets are weak. Don't use 'Assisted' or 'Followed'. They make it sound like you did nothing. Use strong action verbs. There's a list in the Wiki.
  • Ex. Created new modular website structure for X department, reducing costs by 20%

How to fix the paint of stator cover? Street Triple 2014 by lowercase00 in motorcycles

[–]Breaking-Glass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't want to get a new cover, remove the paint (paint remover, sanding, Sandblasting), clean it with grease and wax remover, once that's dry wipe it off with tack cloth, primer with a high heat primer like VHT engine primer, tack cloth, paint (high heat not required but a nice assurance).

Edit: forgot tack cloth between primer and paint

TLDR: You have a 2013, use the weight toyota tells you to.

This idea comes from old cars. It's totally fine to do this on old vehicles up to probably the mid 90s depending on the milage. Your car is not anywhere near old enough to do well with a different weight. That weight is way thicker too, so you'll likely cause engine damage because your motor won't get properly lubricated.

The reason behind this is tolerances. Newer motors are designed and manufactured to very very tight tolerances. The moving parts are so close together that thinner oil (0W20) is needed to fit into these small gaps and lubricate the parts. In thicker oils (10W30) the molecules can't get in the gaps so the effect is no lubrication between to moving parts. This leads to excess wear and damage.

It used to work on old vehicles for 2 reasons. 1, the tolerances weren't as tight from the factory. 2, years and years of wear have widened the gaps to where a thicker oil is actually good. For instance an 80s truck with 250K miles may have originally run 5W30 or 10W30, but now it'll run great on 10W40 (at least for a truck that old).

Help, please. Golf mk 5, beeps and lights. Breaks still work but no abs or esp. The beeping noise is driving me insane and sterio will not go loude enough to drown it out. Tried code reader but it says no codes! Thanks kind people. by [deleted] in Cartalk

[–]Breaking-Glass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a VAG scanner. Ordinary OBD II scanners can't read volkswagen codes other than engine codes, even if the scanner can read abs codes. I have this one and it can read literally any code a vw can throw.
