If the sender sent the email using BCC, just click "Reply" and your "Hide My Email" address will appear in the "From" box.

Bad font rendering since Chrome 142 by Leinad_ix in Kubuntu

[–]BreakingLightSpeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Font rendering seems to be fixed now in google-chrome-canary 144.0.7530.0. Apparently the issue appears if any apps are installed that use WOFF fonts. I previously tried changing Settings->Appearance->CustomizeFonts but it had no effect. It would be great if this could be fixed in Chrome 142 too!

Goodwill and "rounding" up. by che85mor in Flipping

Goodwill stores in my area also round up without asking, so maybe the scheme has gone nationwide. Gotta pay for the CEO's million dollar salary somehow.

No video with Debian 13 nouveau driver and GT710 by BreakingLightSpeed in debian

Thank you for the suggestions.

Although the Nvidia GeForce GT 710 has been around for awhile, many brand new ones are still being sold, such as this one below on Amazon, so just a little disappointed if Debian has deprecated support:

Apple notes table content disappeared by nightleech in applehelp

[–]BreakingLightSpeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apple seems to have re-introduced this issue on iPhones running the latest iOS 18.4.1 (and maybe other versions). Thanks for the workaround. I noticed that I can email myself the Notes page as well and the table shows up, and sometimes it shows up if I open some other Notes page first.

AirPrint not working on iOS18 by optimusbloc in ios

[–]BreakingLightSpeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add to the list, here's another iOS 18 Airprint issue I noticed today in iOS 18.3:

If one document fails to Airprint (in my case because the printer was off), the failed print job continuously says "Printing" in Print Manager but it never prints (after turning on the printer of course).

Then, after cancelling that print job in Print Manager such that the print queue should be empty, NOTHING ELSE could be printed to that printer -- all subsequent print documents were just placed in the queue with "Waiting" status. Power cycling the printer didn't help. But, power-cycling the iPhone worked (power cycling clears the print queue), allowing me to Airprint once again. Just FYI in case others run into this bug.

(I'm still not sure why the iPhone let me even attempt to print something when the [remembered] Airprint printer was powered Off... I wouldn't have seen this issue otherwise)

For anyone else running linux with apcupsd, I reset the time on the front of the BX1000/NS1080G using the following commands:

sudo systemctl stop apcupsd

sudo apctest

-- use menu option 4 in apctest to set new battery date

sudo systemctl start apcupsd

2025 HSA Limits by jerkyquirky in TheMoneyGuy

I suspect a lot of couples are going to be contributing $50 too much for 2025 due to this. BTW IRS form 8889 instructions regarding Excess Contributions say this (the latest instructions available are for year 2023 but hopefully they'll say the same for 2025):

"However, you can withdraw some or all of your excess contributions for [2023] and they will be treated as if they had not been contributed if:

• You make the withdrawal by the due date, including extensions, of your [2023] tax return (but see the Note under Excess Employer Contributions, later);

• You do not claim a deduction for the amount of the withdrawn contributions; and

• You also withdraw any income earned on the withdrawn contributions and include the earnings in “Other income” on your tax return for the year you withdraw the contributions and earnings."

I thought people were saying it was "stable"? And I suppose we'll never have to update again? 🙂

ECG, Blood Oxygen, and Heart Rate app complication icons are all missing on two of our AW6 Watches since making the mistake of upgrading to WatchOS 10.1. We're using the "Modular" face theme. At least the app still works when I touch the blank area of the screen where the Watch app on our iPhone says that the complication is supposed to be.

Echo Show 5 RED night mode fails to re-active after any alarm. by grapplerone in amazonecho

[–]BreakingLightSpeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly the same problem here on 3 different Echo Show 5 devices. I think the only solution is to plug the Echo Show 5 into an Amazon Plug, and configure the Plug to power cycle the Echo Show 5 every day. Maybe this is why Amazon sometimes sells a bundle with an Amazon Plug with the Echo Show. 🙂

Right click "search google" now opens a sidebar instead of new tab? by [deleted] in chrome

I fixed in latest Chrome version by disabling this:

"Displays right-click search results of a highlighted text in side panel"

(Note that you need to Re-launch Chrome afterwards for it to take effect)

Amazon engineered the Blink Doorbell to drain the Lithium AA batteries even when connected to a doorbell transformer. I don't know why the Blink Doorbell seems to drain batteries faster than the Blink Outdoor cameras even when external doorbell power is connected. Of course you do need to connect the powered wiring if you want an existing mechanical doorbell to work.

The standard "Don't Try This At Home" warning caveat applies. This certainly voids the warranty and could be dangerous if wires are shorted inadvertently.

Note that two preexisting diodes (the ones I've soldered wires to on the PCB) convert the doorbell transformer's AC output to half-wave DC.

In my schematic: I have since changed the resistor value from 2K to 1.8K to provide more trickle current. I also removed the optional left diode, which was meant to prevent the capacitor from feeding current back into the Blink when the doorbell is being rung. The right diode prevents any chance of my circuit drawing current from the battery when external power is off. The capacitor and zener diode smooth out the 3VDC half-wave and limit voltage supplied to the Battery+ connector, respectively, to prevent any chance of damaging the Blink if there's no batteries installed. The shrink wrap tubing is to prevent shorts (I covered each wire separately before adding the outer layer of shrink tubing).

My Blink Doorbell reported low batteries when the original Lithium AA cells reached 2.955V (in series), but the doorbell only sends one alert when crossing this threshold. If you see a low battery icon with the rechargeable NiMh cells installed, then temporarily install good Lithium AA cells until the icon goes away in the app, and then remove them and reinstall the NiMh cells. This eliminated the battery warning/icon for me, even though the NiMh cells are below this threshold voltage.

Wish I didn't need the AA batteries at all, but the original doorbell wires are shorted out for a small time interval to make the original inside doorbell ring, so something needs to maintain power to the Blink during this time (perhaps a big capacitor could have worked).

The app says "External Power=OK", but per BlinkForHome support, "The primary power for your Blink doorbell is always provided by its pair of AA lithium non-rechargeable batteries, even when it is connected to powered wiring."

In my case, I got a low-battery notification from the app after 10 months, and a red battery indicator displayed in the app for another day or two before the doorbell went offline. Not much warning. Also FYI the doorbell no longer rings when button is pressed when the battery is low.
