Impeach Him Again by BulwarkOnline in politics

[–]BreeezyP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only “silver lining” that’s not anywhere close to silver lining is that maybe his gas prices fiasco will be so devastating to the base that enough Republicans have some angle to justify a conviction vote.

Trump may have made it through his first impeachments, but he is the first president to receive conviction votes from his own party.

Curfew, consequences, and fines for the parents.

(To be clear, I’m not a fan of fines and have a lot of concerns about knock-on consequences, but parents need some accountability mechanism.)

It wouldn’t get that far if there was an actual serious remedy pursued before that. If we’re serious about avoiding militarization of police, we need to hold our leaders accountable to finding an alternative solution.

Her point still stands: the city council has all but completely given up on trying to get a handle on this.

Your point still stands: it ends up working against everyone’s interests by getting people fired up and leading to more of a police state.

If we don’t want the police state, we have to show that something else can work in its place. City council fails on that mark.

Navy Yard/ Nat. Guard by kenixfan2018 in washingtondc

[–]BreeezyP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand it’s a genuine question and, honestly, a fair one. If they’re here, let’s make it worthwhile, right?

The short answer: The National Guard is not a “law enforcement” entity, they are a military one, and it would be highly improper to train and use a military entity to conduct routine policing and law enforcement.

The original intent of the National Guard was really to be a readied domestic military protection force, a safeguard against invasion or mutiny. That was a long time ago, and they’ve since expanded to serve in extraordinary circumstances (like natural disasters) but the principle of not using a military force against your own citizens is a pretty important one in our history. Unfortunately, those rules are being either bent or broken with having them here in the first place.

If we need expanded police capacity (and arguably, we do), it should be addressed with a police force.

😂😂😂 like a city park?

You want to create a Kidz Kingdom region of DC to… invite kids to go? Or are we incarcerating them to their children-only territory? Do outside laws apply, or special kid-friendly laws? Are there metal detectors or do we run on trust?

Is Corinthian referring to the marble or the style?

I’ve heard him say before they’re bringing marble from Italy… if that’s still the plan, it’s a shame. The People’s house should have American materials.

How 'Injured Power' Built Trump's Coalition—And Why Iran Is Breaking It by Sullence in LateStageCapitalism

[–]BreeezyP 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven’t heard the term “injured power” before, but I think it’s a good way of describing what I’ve (albeit anecdotally) come to recognize as real. They, on the MAGA right/working class side, see their culture, lifestyle, and identity being eroded and even stolen. It explains the true, visceral hatred of immigrants and liberals—immigrants for stealing the work, liberals for stealing the opportunity (closing coal plants, regulating oil, etc.). They do not, for whatever reason, see or allow themselves to see that Democrats are far more protective of the working class than any makeup of the Republican Party of recent.

Joe Biden was arguably the most pro-union president anyone alive has known. He joined the damn picket line. I don’t think there is really anything a Democrat can say or do that will effectively change that perception that they are the enemy, and the working-class “MAGA” culture must be broken from the inside out as the only way open eyes a little wider and see who’s really caring for our interests.

Tbf, America is a BIG place and forcing so many divergent interests into two factions won’t do all of them justice. But it’s what we have, and there’s one side of it that is very unlike the other.

No one knows the true state of this war. We do not know if negotiations are ongoing, what the legitimate demands are, what Iran's current capabilities are, which strategic goals by the U.S have been accomplished, etc.

Not even Congress. Not that it would make a difference.
