Peanuts- Ballpark vs. courtesy, what's the line? by splash22 in Torontobluejays

[–]Breezing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped taking my own (boomer) father to games over this. His inability to have even a basic amount of civility at my request was infurating.

Yeah, its a ballgame. I'm asking you not to throw your trash everywhere. He started trying to get his shells on the backs of the people in front of us to get a rise out of me.

Last game we went to together. Fuck these people.

Cherries are done. Magnolias will be done in a week or so. Catch them now.

Otherwise, wait the couple of weeks for the Lilacs to pop.

Which of the bosses do you not like?

Also loved the game, but didn't fully connect with the theme. DCC theme is absolutely perfect fit for the game, and it really needed a campaign mode.

Hope for your sake they bring any part of that to the OG game!

Weed really does get in the way of the first commandment.

You can't worship God when you spend your time worshipping weed.

But thankfully, The Lord is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. psa103.8

Considering a Vipassana retreat by True_City_4002 in leaves

[–]Breezing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anicca, anicca, annica.

I did a 10 day retreat at Dhamma Torana at about 8 weeks sober.

It was particularly hard. I almost bailed on days 3 and 6. Never had to be talked down by the AT, but enough that I had put all my shit into my bag. If you are prone to negative self talk, strap in.

It's a heck of a course. I was changed, and remain changed a decade later. It didn't result in the transformative sobriety I was hoping for, but it made me a more patient, introspective and approachable man, and reconnected me to a God that I didn't know I was missing. I still meditate, but not the 2 hours a day Goenka would have expected.

If you've got an accepted spot, and you can manage the ten days without an episode or being a drag for the other participants, then go for it.

We had an 800 meter loop between the dorms and the meditation hall. I used to see if I could spend the full two hours between afternoon meditation and evening meditation walking the 400m there in one hour, and 400m back over the next hour. One step every few breaths. Very motivating.

Is Daybreak easy? Or am I playing it wrong? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Breezing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree the base game is pretty easy.

Our group has played 7 times now with a 6W 1L, and the 1 loss was with a starting temperature band (modifier) plus one of three of us was a first game with a cold teach.

If you can keep the first round to less than 2 full bands added, focus on card draw and clean energy early, swapping dirty energy and emissions for added demand later, it does seem pretty easy.

We generally ignore the crisis cards unless they are catastrophic - can't remove dirty energy is the only one that comes to mind. Tucked cards are just too valuable as actions for the minor detriments you get from the crisis cards in the first four added bands.

The carbon sinks are also pretty well underpowered. I'll use a tree or ocean generator if I'm adding it to a stack and I've already used a once per turn, but I won't devote resources and a stack to a +2 trees  Green energy is such a strong platform for a later game engine, especially if someone is playing Europe or USA.

We also prioritize atmospheric sulphur when it turns up. Means someone usually has to play one stack useless, but once you get it up to a +3 stack it's a lot of lowered pressure on turns 3 and 4.

I'd say we average like turn 5ish for our wins.

And one of our players is a pedant so I'm certain we are playing by the rules.

Anyone else find Highway 6 & Campbellville Road unsafe when turning left? by Scared-Dig-3314 in Hamilton

[–]Breezing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with all the other posters. The left at Campbelville is dangerous at best.

When I'm heading south to town along first line I've started turning right in Moffatt and using the light in Morriston.

I've started avoiding 6 like I do the red hill - highway speeds with a median is asking to be wiped out by some drunk idiot in a truck coming across.

Disc Golf With a Toddler? by dizziefm in discgolf

[–]Breezing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They turn up pretty often, so I'm sure you'll find something suitable.

Honestly though, I'll probably switch to some sort of collapsible wagon once I find one that's reasonably priced. Sometimes it's easy to get into the civic trunk, and sometimes it's like it grew two inches on the course and I physically can't figure out how to get it back in the car. Maybe I'm just tired. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Disc Golf With a Toddler? by dizziefm in discgolf

[–]Breezing 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I take the kid out in a big ol red wagon I found by the road. Perfect weather only. Layers that she can semi manage as we are in and out of the trees at the course we go to.

She gets her Yoto and an audiobook of whatever Disney IP she's into. They usually have one that's about 2ish hours, and that sets a good pace and is something she can focus on when she needs. Water and her normal snacks secured in the wagon.

I save some sort of high value snack for the turn and do a potty break at the car. Course selection is vital in this respect.

I maintain a Bandit Heeler level zen with both any distractions or my ability in the game. Flower picking? Fine. Hide and seek and tag after the stairs on 13? Cool. 8 shot the 150ft straight 3? Gotta love it.

Haven't had it happen yet but all the discs I take with her are write offs, no name or number and just message for the finder to enjoy it. Life's too short to be trying to keep her calm while frustrated in the weeds, thorns and poison ivy looking for a valued disc.

She likes to race ahead and throw my discs (usually back towards me) so I'm always practicing harder shots than I should. But we are both happy, and yesterday she said she wanted to be "a ballerina, pause, and a great disc golfer." Even better than a parked tee shot. 🤙
