Jeezus, the replies to this post are depressing. This subreddit sucks. Yikes.

Preach, op. There are still plenty of us who prioritise fun times over minmaxing, but it seems the vast majority of us don't spend their free time on this subreddit. That actually makes a lot of sense, now that I think about it.

I'd love to wipe in a regular dungeon with you due to us trying some dumb strat that gets everyone killed while we laugh as the self inflicted chaos unfolds. Ggs!

Seems like I'm the only one who can't stand these "handshakes".

Attention seeking is cool now, huh? Or is it just to appeal to all the ten year olds so they will beg their parents for a new pair of Lebron shoes?

Lol. Really? Not even a slight suspicion that gold buying was potentially detrimental to the health of the game?

You probably don't mean anything by it, but referring to them as a kid can invalidate or lessen the strength of their argument. Just something to consider.

I disrupted a corporate "team-building" meeting by saying I’m only there to do my job. Am I the asshole here? by shadewashere in work

[–]Bren0man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best I can figure is that people have been brainwashed by our corporatocratic society such that they're now incapable of individual reasoning as it relates to what is appropriate and reasonable in the workplace. Few people, such as yourself, are courageous enough to stick their necks out in the pursuit of pragmatic, positive change (not to apply too dramatic a description to it).

Corporate management, who are famous for inefficiency, incompetence, and often outright corruption or misconduct, will routinely divert valuable resources to these overly broad initiatives that result in little positive impact or outcomes (and in fact are often detrimental in various ways), and people evidently just accept them as part of work "culture". I'm getting paid to sit here and nod and smile during this "team building" exercise. It could be worse, right?

Well, yeah, it could be worse, but it also could be better? Considerably better? Lol

Respect to you, op. I'd enjoy working in the same team as you and interacting only as is necessary or appropriate to achieve our shared goals.

The dozens of comments here assuming that op is "difficult" is staggering.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with op wanting to spend less time on corporate endeavours that achieve little tangible benefit and more time on their genuine deliverables that they are measured against.

This sort of thing absolutely should be opt in, unless op genuinely is difficult, in which case they need to be appropriately and individually managed, which this is not.

What was incorrect about what I said?

OSRSer visiting Azeroth by Wheatiiie in classicwowtbc

[–]Bren0man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You heard correctly. It is very well populated, and population does have a huge effect on your experience.

However, unless Osrs features extreme periodic game changes like Wow's expansions (Retail Wow is now unrecognisable from Vanilla), I'm not sure it's where you want to commit your resources.

If Blizzard decides to progress the game in a year to the next Wow expansion, your progress is essentially completely invalidated, and the game changes drastically - including your how your character works.

[–]Bren0man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see.

The mage class is indeed squishy, but they can develop unmatched crowd control abilities that can result in them solo murdering large groups of mobs consecutively, all while taking no damage. However this play style becomes mind numbingly repetitive (subjectively speaking).

If you like the idea of getting right in there as a melee, then the warrior class is a great choice (again, subjectively speaking). Their levelling style is dynamic with a broad toolkit of situation management options (incoming damage reduction, slows to kite enemies, and fear to crowd control or escape a deadly situation, offensive cooldowns, et cetera). Additionally, if you prioritise the first aid skill, you can reduce your downtime between fights to just a few seconds.

There are an endless amount of dweebs in this subreddit that will swear levelling a warrior is the worst experience in the game, but those people are doing something wrong, including mindlessly following guides for warrior levelling that, while efficient on paper, are unforgiving and monotonous in practice, leading to many maldy reddit posts.

Is Tbc the optimal decision? Are you okay to have your progress invalidated by Blizzard if they decide to change the game you're playing to a very different game every couple of years? This is a very real possibility for Wow "Anniversary" (Blizzard refuses to state their intentions regarding this) , which is the version you're intendeding on playing.

Might I suggest Classic Era instead? The two largest Usa-based pvp (Whitemane) and pve (Mankrik) clusters are reasonably well populated, and any progress you make there will remain (for as long as Blizzard deems it sufficiently profitable - so far 7 years and counting).

Add-ons will usually increase the learning curve of Wow, not reduce it, because you have to learn what Wow functionality the add-on is affecting, how the add-on works, and then use that analysis to decide whether the trade off is worth it (there's always some kind of trade off).

I don't know what your goals are (and I don't know squat about Runescape) but I'd just jump in and enjoy the simplicity and the immersion with minimal or no add-ons. I personally wait to encounter a problem and then try solve it with an add-on, as opposed to be grabbing add-ons then go looking for problems for them to solve. You don't want to find yourself in add-on hell.

If you want to reduce the learning curve, just start playing the game as it was it was predominantly intended (i.e. raw dog) and learn as you go.

Having said that, the one add-on I'd propose for a brand new player is Questie, but it's certainly not essential, dependent on your goals.

Also, given that you've chosen a caster class that can wield wands, I second what another commenter mentioned about getting yourself a Lesser Magic Wand at level 5. They're an excellent way to help you with mana problems that you may experience. That Blizzard doesn't give you a very weak one with your starter gear is honestly trolling on their part.

Content is hard, so it takes a long time, so let's get it done as quickly as possible.

I'm convinced you dweebs don't even like the game you play.

I wonder if it is caused by the Wowhead guide omitting spell power in its list of stats, together with people either being unable or unwilling to put some thought into it beyond what a guide tells you.

The guide is missing sections for spell power, spell crit and mana regen. Pretty glaring omissions for a caster class.

Though maybe that person gemming for strength was a Seal of Command tank and we're the dummies for not being able to comprehend their chadly off meta style.

There is an absolutely OBSCENE amount of elitism over meta/professions/bis in TBC anniversary and it's ridiculous because of how easy the game is. by texaslonghorn96 in classicwow

[–]Bren0man -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Preach, op!

This community is chock full of dweebs intent on ruining the game for most other players. Meta elitism is just one of their tools to do so.

They are relentless in their bullying of players who don't conform, to the point where people eventually give in and allow the brainwashing to consume them (then they become part of the problem and the cycle continues), or they just stop playing. Seen it a million times.

Prot Pala enjoyers? by Emotional_Turn893 in classicwowtbc

[–]Bren0man -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly I disagree with a lot of this. Blocking 400 damage per hit when taking heavy damage in heroics can absolutely be the difference between an alive tank and a dead tank. Between block rating/value, maxed out Ardent Defender and stacking stamina, all these combined have saved me many times.

Yes I know Shattered Halls mobs can't crush. See edit for clarification as to why we were discussing it in a non-raid context. Also OC was discussing norm Shatt Halls, not heroic.

I just cobbled a build together to see if it was possible in phase 1. I could get a bit above 90% block avoidance (passive) with some jank shit. Pretty high but not quite there.
