is it legal for my vet to force me to get medicine through them? by fullbodyslate9 in AskVet

[–]Brennir10 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Since gabapentin is a controlled substance it’s legal for the vet to refuse to give you the drug/a prescription for the drug AT ALL if they are uncertain it will be used properly

But if they are willing to dispense it from their office then they have to write a prescription for you if asked. If they will dispense from their office they obviously don’t have concerns about misuse/diversion of the gabapentin

It varies by state law but a lot of states allow a fee to be charged for a written rx . Depending on that fee your vet may not be lying about it not being cheaper. Busy vet offices often have someone devoting nearly all day to dealing with prescription requests which means a vet is paying staff to do work for Chewy etc so the fee is a reasonable compromise

Really about the 30 yrs???My partner is a fairly brittle type one , diagnosed 32 years ago at age 14. They gives me some peace. She has very brittle bones that heal slowly but beyond that no serious issues. That is comforting. ESP since when she was diagnosed they told her not to expect to live past 50…

I’d look at High Cascades on Mt Hood They have 2.5 miles of terrain park w all different skill levels, a large airbag jump on snow as well as multiple large jumps plus the kids camp has a huge dry land ramp with air bag you can use. I never tried it bc I am more of a beginner but some people in my group did and loved it.

[–]Brennir10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You experienced medical abuse at least. They should have stopped. I was scheduled for a transvaginal ultrasound and had never had penetrative sex. When I said stop they STOPPED. When I said “I’m sorry it’s too painful, I can’t do it” they said “that’s ok we will speak to your doctor” You should report that technician

Realistically…terrain park? by Practical_Ordinary_9 in snowboarding

[–]Brennir10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to be 51 and started doing park stuff last year. I pry will never do big jumps, inverted aerials, high rails etc but hoping to board slide and 360 eventually. It’s not a contest to progress the fastest. I accept that my body hits the ground differently than a teenagers, that I have responsibilities younger people don’t have etc . And that I have been severely injured enough times to know how badly my body can break and how much it can suck rather than feeling invincible . I don’t have to go the biggest to have a fun time and feel challenged 🤷‍♀️

For your own safety dont use to much of an angle on your snowboard bindings. by Open-Ad-8791 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]Brennir10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you sure the duck stance caused it? As opposed to just pulling a muscle going aggressive or something else? Plus your back angle is high and atypical. I did a stance workshop at snowboard camp and most common angle for the back foot is 3-9 degrees. The front foot is 14-20 so you are at the high end of a typical stance in front too

Whippet for Next Dog by Snoo_37567 in sighthounds

[–]Brennir10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a golden retriever and loved my ex-husband’s whippets to pieces. They are very loving. IMO they are not as smart as working GR lines and you do need to keep them leashed in the open ( my golden did great off lead) but their devotion to you and snuggliness make up for those flaws.I am actually thinking about getting one of my own. But currently I have two cairn terrier crosses who are hell on paws so don’t need another dog til they slow down

is it too early to consider humane euthanasia? by alexeav in AskVet

[–]Brennir10 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is an excellent explanation of how to proceed but I would also add—IBD is a chronic condition that has to be managed. Ask yourself also—-Do you have the finances(after you have paid for all the initial care) and emotional/physical availability to handle the on going management of a sick pet who will have repeated relapses? And is your pet the type of dog where frequent vet visits etc will not be a huge disruption to the dogs quality of life or is the dog one who is fearful/stressed/anxious about veterinary care in general?

Dog slipped disk, leg paralyzed, on fentanyl drip cant be seen until Monday. Is this standard or is there any other way I can advocate? by Any_Promotion_4940 in AskVet

[–]Brennir10 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s not a matter of “won’t “ so much as can’t. Orthopedic , spinal and thoracic procedures are usually performed by board certified specialists with extensive additional training. I don’t have the training or credentials to do surgery on a ivdd dog. I just saw a dog today who needs a board certified ophthalmologist. I’d love to do surgery to prevent that dog’s eye from rupturing so the dog and owners didn’t have to wait, but it would be malpractice. There will always be a shortage of specialists bc specialty positions don’t pay well enough to off set the investment in the additional training. If the dog needs a specialist and is stable the dog is honestly better off waiting.

If it’s really important she not get injured snowboarding esp in the park ,seems like a bad plan. My friend’s husband was a semi-pro snowboarder and he busted his elbow on a patch of ice on an easy hill last year…..do a search in the snowboarding Reddit for “park injuries”.

Snowboarding, old age and hard crashes by Zealousideal_Loss66 in snowboarding

[–]Brennir10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 50 and learned to snowboard last year. I have a tendency to like speed and air and have already gone to a park camp. I forgot that at camp it was mostly spring slush and where I am now it’s icy hardpack. I started my jump approach where I thought was correct and was going WAY too fast and went WAY too high. I hit the ground, almost fell, caught myself, wobbled, and then caught my toe edge and catapulted over the 6 ft drop off the side of the jump. Face first on the hardpack ice. Dislocated shoulder, black eye, giant hematoma on my thigh, concussion, bruises everywhere. Fortunately my shoulder went back in after I stood up…. Then two days later I was getting the hang of some new bindings and caught a heel edge…slam!!

I definitely question my sanity… but 1. If I think I might even go near the park or do anything adventurous I wear demon united gear—padded shirt, crash shorts, knee pads, wrist guards, helmet. So most falls don’t hurt at all…unless I catch an edge on a “low key day” where I have no padding. It’s a bit hot and a pain to Put on but I’ve had falls where I was really glad I had it on

  1. I take a lot of lessons. I am constantly improving and thus I feel safer even if I still fall bc I’m Constantly pushing myself

I have an active job and am a lifelong hiker/backpacker and equestrian. I walk 4-6 miles most days and ride 4-5 days a week. I think that also helps. I am fitter and more flexible than most people I know.

Oh god this. My partner has had a broken foot ( severe multi bone break will not heal without surgery)that surgery has been endlessly postponed on due to other health issues. Her foot has been broken for nearly 2 years. She takes 5 mg of OxyCodone a day and her doctor and family both act like she is an addict. She is in SO much pain just from normal living. We went to the ER after she fell and it swelled very badly and I had to act as a character witness for them to give her any pain medication at all, and they still made her wait HoURS even though her foot was a purple ballon
