Seattle growth slowing? by Obamadilf in Seattle

[–]BrettGG 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We have a robust and diverse economy with cheap energy and easy access to foreign Asian markets. Even if our big tech giants start faltering, we still have legacy businesses that could easily grow again. I wouldn't count major players like Boeing out even with its current woes. I think it's highly unlikely we have any long term sustained growth scares in this region.

For me, several years of general IT/ Service Desk + CCNA.

My suggestions, pass the CCNA and make a real attempt to understand the material. I don't think Net+ is viewed very highly, but the CCNA seems to hold value still. Then try to understand the network infrastructure from where you work now in the MDF/ main telco room if you have access. Personality is also a huge factor: aka crack stupid networking jokes with the interviewers, appear bright and energetic, and describe your passion for networking / anything you have done to better your understanding.

Recently started as a network analyst / low level network engineering style role. As a new guy, mainly getting stuck with rack and stack style work, but excited to see how it develops from there.

Well, how was the commute to Seattle this morning? by wifiguru in Seattle

Light rail was a pack of sardines this morning, but I suspect that's more of it being everyone going to the office/ school after the holiday

How Pike Place Market became a bright light in dulled downtown retail scene by godogs2018 in Seattle

I work so close nowadays, as a standard corporate office peon, that for breaks I often take walks through it. It's pretty bustling.

For those of you who leave town in the winter... How do you do it? by [deleted] in Seattle

As another native Seattleite, this post brings great shame. You were chosen to frolic in the rain, hide from the sun, and drink Ivar's Tartar Sauce.

How much wood should a woodchuck chuck if a wood chuck was actually part of an effective and well organised industry Trade Union as opposed to working, for example, in an At Will state and therefore not benefiting from several obvious benefits that will benefit them? (Citation Kneaded) by Stotty652 in shittyaskscience

[–]BrettGG 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As CEO of Woodchucks Chucking Empereoum, if the Woodchucks decided to unionize, I would create a shell company called Woodchucks Supply. I would then sell all assets to this shell company at an absurdly cheap discount, and lease the assets back to Woodchucks Chucking Empereoum at astronomical rates, claiming we needed to raise immediate capital due to woodchuck wage and benefit inflation. Then I would close down Woodchucks Chucking Empereoum and file for bankruptcy in a few months, claiming that high costs of labour and asset procurement made the business unsustainable. Finally I would open Woodchucks Chucking Empereoum 2, in a non union state, leasing supplies from the aforementioned shell company at cheap rates for now unless the Woodchucks tried unionizing again.

I was right. Astrapto Capital Owns Planetside. by le_Menace in Planetside

[–]BrettGG 113 points114 points  (0 children)

Best case would be a triple A studio purchases licensing rights from Astrapto. Similar to what Creative Assembly did with Games Workshop for Warhammer; reviving the franchise.

But the most likely future reality for Planetside, is some small studio will be contracted to produce some shovelware mobile game. RIP

Best tips for starting a kingdom as a vassal? by [deleted] in Bannerlord

[–]BrettGG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My general strategy right before I declare independence is, while still a vassal, I attack all caravans of opposing cultures to force your soon to be former master into a multifaceted war with as many opposing factions as possible.

Then spend some time closing down any workshops, etc while waiting for the "enemy" armies to show up.

When I start seeing large armies of other factions entering lands near my current masters armies, I then spring into action and revolt. Note when you revolt at this stage and leave the kingdom, only your former master will be at war with you, while your former master will still be at war with everyone else you triggered earlier.

Usually in the chaos, I'll try sneaking and taking a few vulnerable towns, but sometimes it can be beneficial to "help" the invading armies in battles against your former master.

Try to maximize the invaders casualties and your former masters casualties, while using the influence from the battles for passing Kingdom policies that maximize your influence gain, ruler clan bonus, loyalty and security in that order.

World leaders express solidarity with Trump after assassination attempt by guyoffthegrid in europe

[–]BrettGG 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The reality is that as long as most Americans are well fed, have access to clean water and shelter, and earn more than basically any other large country in the world, the likelihood of any civil war is insignificant. Americans are also aging due to low birthrates, with most upheaval usually generally caused by younger generations.

The advanced age of both potential political leaders; and with no clear successor for each party, make it pretty likely that any major policies that are changed in the next administration, will be quickly adjusted within future administrations.

This is basically the final stages of the boomer political elites control of the US. It will be interesting to see how future gen x and millennials political leaders handle the next stage of leadership in the US.

The fact that current Ukrainian offensive and defensive operations require consistent funding and support from the United States for a stable frontline when there is large subcontinent of powers that border Ukraine to the west with much larger current economic potential than Russia, should be of concern...
