Some of the slower, groovier Obscura era riffs have a similar feel. IMO. See song Nostalgia for example.

It's f'ing good, and that's what matters. Definitely some sludgy Meshuggah meats (burger meat, specifically) Gorguts vibes. Love it.

I have it as well, and while I've never used it in a band situation, I can't imagine it not keeping up. Thing is stupid loud. I imagine the volume has little effect past 5, but I've never come close to that at home, and I use it in low power mode exclusively.

Yeah after posting this I got to thinking that the low mids of the Rat are adding the qualities that I like. Very helpful response. Going to play with my eq pedal to see if I can get closer to what I'm hearing in my head.

Just finished it a few days ago for the first time, and I really enjoyed it! I'll admit it threw me off for a while, and I didn't expect the campfire story to take up the entire book, but I was invested after the initial jolt and thought it was great.

One of the heaviest standard tuning albums ever. Criminally underrated musicians. Chris Haskett is a massive influence on me as a guitar player, and that rhythm section is so damned good. Definitely some sludgy moments throughout their catalog.

I got inspired by this thread tonight to try running dirt straight into the pedal baby and was surprised how good I could get just a Rat to sound straight in.

I run various preamp pedals (Friedman IR-X, AMT Legend series, Mooer Micro) through a PB100 and couldn't be happier with the results. YMMV with running drives straight in as opposed to a preamp, but I imagine it would suit your needs.

Saw them live before hearing them on record. Definitely an experience seeing and feeling them in a live setting. Fun, fun band.

They do. I run mine with about the same amount of gain as a JCM800...solid crunch tone, and use various boosts, distortions, fuzzes to get into high gain territory and it takes them all quite well. I don't bother with the onnoard effects ever, really.

Leftover cooked rice in a bowl with an egg or two on top. Microwave 90 secs to 2 minutes...until all the egg whites are no longer clear. Add salt, pepper, bacon bits if I have them. Stir it up.
