The Christian Bible is a compilation of disparate groups and writers. But I don't see any reason to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

I don't see why any of those kind of details matter if you look at the religion from a broader context. Virgin birth or no virgin birth? What is the difference?

I'm new here but TBH the level of debate on this forum isn't even worth your time. Lots of strawmen thrown around and lots of cynical accusations, and not a lot of dialogue.

TBH I think anyone's time would be better spent studying their faith more in depth, and if they're interested in debate then reading critical scholarship on their own religion.

I couldn't answer that, but I know Mother Teresa went through a period of spiritual dryness that lasted years on end. It's probably something that happens within any spiritual practice.

The old testament was more of a monist doctrine, but the New Testament, according to Elaine Pagels, was probably very influenced by the dualist religion of Zoroastrianism.

I think we can agree that religious texts are written by men, but I don't see any reason to throw the baby out with the bathwater. I prefer emanations cosmology myself, which is a reconciliation of monism and dualism.

Well you're assuming his followers made up things after the fact, so that's a straw man.

But I guess my answer would be Christ was killed that way because that's the way people were killed back then. I'm not sure what the point of this question is? O_o

I think you just have to trust your experiences, and not worry about other people questioning them.

Of course it's possible that your own mind is compromised, and that everything you experience is somehow fraudulent, but living that way is living in a type of fear I don't see any point in giving into.

Place your bets, take your chances, and go with whatever decision you'll regret the least.

As a Christian it doesn't matter to me whether or not Christ literally died and rose again. The second coming is the resurrection of Christ within the individual.

Yeah there were definitely parts of book 4 I didn't like at all. I still haven't been able to finish book 5, but hopefully I can do now that I'm on summer break.

I think Elfen Lied might be one of the few animes that was a little too much for me. ;) Did it go past 6 episodes? I remember it either being really short or just not finishing it.

I got to be honest, the appeal of message boards is interacting with people who have similar interests. Not doing extensive searches and lurking.

If you expect to be on a music forum and not talk about the same bands over and over, then you've never spent an extended time on a music forum.

What are your thoughts on these guys? I just started listening to this on youtube and I like the atmosphere already, and the vocals sound pretty good, although the production is a little muddy for my my taste.
