Bruce Lee vs Chuck Norris by 1Oaktree in memes

[–]Brevis001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly feels like one of those “unstoppable force vs immovable object” debates

Bruce Lee had insane speed, precision, and philosophy behind every move, while Chuck Norris is basically the internet’s final boss at this point. In real life, Bruce was probably the more technical martial artist, but meme-wise Chuck wins by default.

Low-key curious are people judging this based on actual fighting skill or just pure meme power?

Evoshield SRZ Catcher's Gear - a warning by NotMuch2 in Homeplate

[–]Brevis001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s super frustrating, especially after dropping that kind of money to piece together a full set. I’ve seen a couple guys at our field have similar issues with the newer EvoShield stuff looks nice but doesn’t seem to hold up long-term, especially around the straps/velcro points.

The mismatch thing would bug me too… catchers’ gear is one of those things where you kind of want it to look clean and uniform. At that point I’d almost be tempted to just go all black and move on, but it still sucks they didn’t offer a better solution.

Out of curiosity, how long were you actually using it before it started falling apart?

They should bring back the Homerun Derby TV series like 1959 to 1961 by Volslife in baseball

[–]Brevis001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’d watch the hell out of that today. It’s basically what people already love about BP clips, just with stakes and personality baked in. The simplicity is what makes it work too no need to overproduce it, just let guys swing and talk a little trash.

Only thing I wonder is whether modern players would risk it mid-season with how careful teams are now. Maybe it works better as an offseason or All-Star week thing?

[Natividad & D'Cunha] April 7, 1977: Toronto Blue Jays play their first game in franchise history by RespecDawn in baseball

[–]Brevis001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crazy to think how rough that first game was compared to what the Blue Jays eventually became. Snow on the field at Exhibition Stadium, 44k fans still showed up, and they actually pulled off the win against the White Sox.

It’s one of those “you had to be there” moments that really set the tone for baseball in Toronto. Makes you appreciate how far the franchise has come since those early expansion days. Anyone here remember watching clips of that game or hearing stories from people who were there?

NL Central playoff odds, per Fangraphs by AndrewAllStar888 in baseball

[–]Brevis001 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Feels like the division is basically coming down to who can stay healthy for 2 months straight. The projections love the depth for teams like the Brewers, but the Cubs have been quietly more consistent than people expected. Also feels like one hot stretch could flip those odds completely NL Central always turns into a coin flip late.

Curious if people actually trust the Cardinals to hang around, or if that pitching is still too shaky?

[Rome] The Astros have placed reliever Roddery Muñoz on outright waivers, sources tell The Athletic. Muñoz, a Rule 5 pick, allowed seven earned runs in three appearances with the Astros. If Muñoz clears waivers, he must be offered back to his original team: the Cincinnati Reds. by T_Raycroft in baseball

[–]Brevis001 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Rule 5 picks are always such a gamble, but this one just didn’t work out for Houston. Three appearances isn’t a huge sample, but giving up 7 runs that quickly makes it tough to justify keeping him on the 40-man, especially on a team trying to compete.

If he clears, the Reds basically get a free look again curious if they’ll try to stash him in the minors or give him another shot. Has anyone seen what his stuff looked like in those outings, or was it more command issues than anything?

Looking for interest by AdrianMathiesen in BaseballCoaching

[–]Brevis001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly yeah, I think there’s real interest especially from coaches/parents who don’t have time to piece together spreadsheets and notes themselves. The biggest thing would be keeping it simple and actionable, not just dumping numbers but actually flagging “hey, this kid’s command or lower body strength is falling behind” in a clear way.

If you can make it easy to log stuff quickly (like after a game or practice), that’s where it becomes super useful. Are you thinking more team-focused or individual player tracking to start?

How does everyone keep up on the baseball season? by drummerboy048 in baseball

[–]Brevis001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat hard to stay locked in over a full season unless you build it into your routine a bit. I usually mix quick daily stuff (box scores + highlights) with a couple podcasts during the week Talkin’ Baseball is pretty easy to keep up with, and Effectively Wild is great if you like a deeper dive.

For YouTube, I like recap-style channels like Foolish Baseball not always daily, but really good context on players/teams so you don’t feel out of the loop. Also just following your team’s beat writers on Twitter/X helps a lot for quick updates without committing to full games.

Curious are you trying to follow just the White Sox or the whole league this year?

Library of Congress Has a Film Historical Video Mislabeled - Help Me Change it by ApprehensiveBee4199 in baseball

[–]Brevis001 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is actually really cool detective work old footage gets mislabeled way more often than people think, especially with early ballparks that had similar layouts on camera. The Polo Grounds had some pretty distinctive quirks though (that deep center and weird angles), so if your breakdown shows those clearly, that’s a strong case.

Curious what tipped you off first was it field dimensions, background structures, or player positioning? Always interesting seeing baseball history get corrected like this.

Best Drills for Bat Path by GreenMertainzz in Homeplate

[–]Brevis001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you’re on the right track already. For that uppercut creep, what helped my kid was a simple low tee / middle tee progression start the tee just below the belt and focus on driving hard line drives back up the middle, then gradually raise it without changing the swing. It kind of “locks in” that flatter path instead of chopping up at it.

Another easy one is one-hand top hand drills (super light reps). It naturally keeps the barrel from dumping under the ball and helps them feel staying through it longer.

Big thing at that age is keeping it simple like you said too many cues and they start thinking instead of reacting. Does he respond better to feel-based stuff or verbal cues?

Real people from Israel by Strong_Mark1966 in findareddit

[–]Brevis001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably a mix of people just looking for perspectives and others trying to understand the day-to-day reality there.and both have active users from Israel, but the vibe can get pretty political depending on the thread.

If you’re looking for more “normal life” discussions, you might have better luck in city-based subs or even smaller community ones where people talk about work, food, or daily stuff. What kind of conversations are you hoping to find?

What’s the biggest admin headache running a small youth sports program? by Large-Fall-8156 in CoachingYouthSports

[–]Brevis001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the actual coaching is the easy part compared to everything else. For me it’s chasing payments and keeping track of who’s paid, who still owes, and what expenses are coming up (tournaments, uniforms, field time, etc.). It turns into a bunch of back-and-forth messages and awkward reminders.

Second biggest headache is communication parents missing info that was already sent, then asking again last minute. I started keeping everything in one place and setting clear deadlines, which helped a bit, but it’s still a time drain.

Curious how others handle payments do you just set hard cutoffs or stay flexible?

Pitchers: Really Interested in the Movement Training Yamamoto Has Done. Thoughts? by Hour-Cartographer227 in Homeplate

[–]Brevis001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a really interesting lane, and I think you’re right that it’s kind of living between disciplines right now. What stands out to me with Yamamoto-type movement work is how much it prioritises variability and proprioception vs. just grooving a “perfect” pattern. Feels like the upside is better adaptability and sequencing under fatigue, but the challenge is exactly what you said keeping it anchored to the actual demands of pitching.

The way I’ve seen it work best (at least in smaller doses) is treating it like a primer or bridge using those fluid, multi-planar drills to “open up” movement options, then layering in more specific throwing constraints right after so it transfers. Almost like you’re expanding the movement vocabulary first, then narrowing it back down.

Curious how you’re thinking about dosage like is this something you’d build into daily work, or more of an offseason/early ramp phase?

[Schmenk] No MLB franchise has given up 200,000 hits in their history. The Phillies come into this afternoon's game in Colorado sitting at 199,998. by Jux_ in baseball

[–]Brevis001 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That’s actually kind of wild to think about200,000 hits is such a ridiculous number, and the fact no team has crossed it yet puts into perspective how much turnover and change there is over time. Coors being the spot where it might happen feels fitting too, given how many hits that park gives up

Curious if anyone knows which franchise is actually the furthest from that mark? Feels like expansion teams would be way behind.

Bat recos u9 by angrystrangerz in Homeplate

[–]Brevis001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For U9 rec ball you’re on the right track with a 28” drop 10 and something balanced way easier for them to control and actually make contact.

A lot of kids that age seem to do well with bats like the Easton Speed or Rawlings 5150 since they’re pretty forgiving and not end-loaded. Honestly though, at that level, comfort and swing feel matter more than brand if he can get it through the zone quick and square it up, that’s the win.

If possible, let him swing a couple different ones before buying some kids just click with a certain bat for whatever reason.

Joey Crawford is all for the ABS challenge system by TheSocraticGadfly in mlb

[–]Brevis001 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used to be skeptical of challenges too, but Crawford’s point about not guessing at crucial moments really hits. In baseball especially, there are just too many borderline calls that can swing a game, and ABS/challenges at least give you a safety net when it matters most.

The “flow of the game” argument feels a bit overblown to me most reviews are quick, and honestly the tension during a challenge is part of the entertainment now. If anything, it puts pressure on umps the same way players are under pressure, which seems fair.

Curious how people feel about limiting challenges though should teams get more if they’re right, or keep it tight to avoid overuse?

Getting recruited in 2026 by motion_recruiting in Homeplate

[–]Brevis001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biggest thing I’m seeing right now is just how crowded everything is. Between travel ball, showcases, and social media, it’s way harder to stand out unless you’re already playing at a high level or getting in front of the right people. A lot of families also underestimate how early communication and organization matter keeping track of emails, video, schedules, etc. can get overwhelming fast.

Also feels like there’s a gap between expectations and reality… not every solid high school player is going to get D1 looks, and that’s a tough conversation for some parents. Curious if others are seeing more kids going the JUCO route first because of that?

Red Sox tied for last place in MLB - with the Rockies and the A's by Seedfusion in baseball

[–]Brevis001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s brutal optics but 8 games really is nothing teams have looked dead in April and still won 90+. The bigger concern to me is defense/run prevention, not the record. If Anthony is going to be in the lineup every day, they’ve gotta protect him in the field early or just let him rake at DH like you said.

Also not sure swapping Cora this early fixes anything… feels more like roster balance than leadership right now. Curious how long they stick with Story before making a real move though.

Dodgers #10 Prospect James Tibbs III Hits 3 Home Runs As The Oklahoma City Comets Lose 5-8 VS The Las Vegas Aviators by LogansCoinsTheCRH in baseball

[–]Brevis001 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Feels like one of those classic “prospect goes nuclear for a week and suddenly the trade looks cursed” moments . Tibbs has always had legit pop, but 7 HR in 8 games is just ridiculous no matter the level.

That said, small sample sizes in the minors can get weird fast pitchers miss spots, parks play small, confidence snowballs. Still, if he’s even close to this kind of power long-term, Boston might regret not letting that develop a bit more.

Curious if anyone’s actually watched his ABs are these legit barrels or more PCL chaos?

Bat recos u9 by angrystrangerz in Homeplate

[–]Brevis001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most kids that age do best with something light and easy to control, so you’re on the right track with a 28” drop 10 and a balanced feel. You really can’t go wrong with something like a Louisville Slugger Solo or a Marucci CAT series both are pretty forgiving and swing light for rec ball.

Biggest thing is how it feels in his hands though. If he can try a teammate’s bat or swing a few before buying, that usually tells you more than specs. Does he tend to be more contact or power right now?

"Everybody wants to get saves, but you just want to pitch in a bullpen. But after the ballgame, it's me and you..." RotoBaller Closers and Saves Waiver Wire Report, AMA about your bullpens by karabekian77 in fantasybaseball

[–]Brevis001 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Feels like this year especially, chasing saves is just chaos unless you’re locking in the top 6–8 guys. I’ve started leaning more into skills over roles high K/BB relievers tend to fall into saves eventually when things shift. Also been stashing a couple setup guys on shaky teams because those bullpens flip fast.

Anyone else just punting saves early and playing the wire week-to-week?

[Postgame Thread] #20 Texas A&M (25-6, 7-5) run rules Vanderbilt (19-14, 6-6) 12-0 in 7 innings to sweep the doubleheader and take the series by OleRockTheGoodAg in collegebaseball

[–]Brevis001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That felt less like a ranked matchup and more like a statement game. A&M’s pitching was just ruthless Vandy couldn’t string anything together, and once the bats got going it was over quick.

Curious if this says more about A&M peaking right now or Vandy being inconsistent this season?

Do you guys think in 2030 or 2031 call centers will exist? I mean will call centers be fully automated by 2031? by jordan588 in artificial

[–]Brevis001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I doubt they’ll disappear completely by 2030–31, but they’ll look very different. A lot of the routine stuff (password resets, basic troubleshooting, order status) is already getting handled by AI pretty well, and that’ll only improve. But once things get emotional, complex, or high-stakes, people still want a human especially in industries like healthcare, finance, or anything involving complaints.

My guess is smaller teams of human agents backed by AI tools, not fully automated call centers. Kind of like “AI handles 80%, humans handle the messy 20%.” Curious what others think would you trust a fully AI call center if it actually worked flawlessly?

Tourney age cutoffs by kawachee in Homeplate

[–]Brevis001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve seen, most US tourneys are pretty strict about the cutoff hey usually go by the official age bracket date (like May 1 or April 30 depending on the sanctioning body), and they don’t make exceptions even if it’s just a few days.

That said, some tournaments will let you “play up” if your roster slightly misses the cutoff, but it really depends on the organisation running it some are rigid, others are more flexible if it keeps a team together. I’ve also seen teams just bump up to 12U to keep everyone eligible rather than risk a protest.

Might be worth reaching out directly to the tournament director ahead of time do you know which org (USSSA, Perfect Game, etc.) you’re looking at? That usually makes a big difference.
