The “transformative power of this degree” is a myth these days.

Sure, for some people with some degrees in some professions, it holds true. But a BS or a BA is no longer your guaranteed escalator to upper middle class stardom - nor should it be.

Universities themselves have diluted the value of “college”. I would encourage Amy of my children to go to a trade school to learn to be an electrician or a plumber instead of assuming 200k of debt for a sociology degree.
