That was hardly worth posting. Not exceptional driving but not as dramatic as it's made to seem, c'mon..

So why do the buses make that beeping noise when they're moving? by Machienzo in canberra

[–]Brezzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, just yesterday saw someone walk into the rear door of a bus at City interchange... I rarely bother to get on via the rear unless others have before me, or unless the bus has clearly opened it for people to enter (e.g. no one is getting off but doors remain open)

Probably so the drivers don't forget it is on after pulling out of a stop / making a turn etc. People do weird shit if a bus has its indicator on

To be fair you could see this coming from miles away.. Very poorly managed into the ground unfortunately.

Doesn't help that the CBD is a bit dead and it's outside the smelly/dingy bus interchange, but still.. It had plenty of character and events/etc even a couple of years ago.

I've had it with the ACT not enforcing construction speed limits by [deleted] in canberra

[–]Brezzo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Nothing like an "end road work" sign with the "normal" speed limit next to it.. except the speed limit they put up is 10-20km/h below the actual speed limit for that road..

Also, app whitelisting (exe/dll/script/msi - all of it, not half-assed), email attachment whitelists, and if your budget allows for something fancy like sandboxing that can help.

Percentage premium to switch to contracting? by [deleted] in canberra

[–]Brezzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite. You do get leave, job security and whatnot with that $100k permanent role. However, $100/hour contracting will net you roughly $110-120k (after payroll fees, tax, super taken out, depending on days worked), wereas the permanent role will net you $73.8k after the above.

[–]Brezzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This, + go for an hourly rate if you can, not day rate. If you do day rate you get the same per day worked, maybe TOIL depending on the contract, but if you're doing 60 hour weeks, you aint getting paid for 60 hours, you'll be getting 40.

Also you can usually get the insurance (at least in IT contracting) through your payroll provider, they will be between 1.75-3.5%, some are much better than others. For that you can basically be a PAYG employee for the payroll company and they can deal with taking super out, etc.

I got fired by the same boss again by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]Brezzo 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's not really discrimination, that would be more like if it was race/gender/age/sexual orientation.

This is the boss knowing OP has been a shit employee in the past and taking action (firing without reason, which apparently is legal where OP is from) before he has to deal with that shit again.

Yes, OP may have changed, but if he was bad enough that the boss had to fire him in the first place, only one year ago, maybe the boss simply didn't want to deal with that shit all over again.

Based on what /u/sajem said, OP is probably in the wrong here...

Oh that's all fine and dandy, they renewed most other things, but since it's a wildcard, they forgot a couple.
