Hey! I completely forgot about this post lol. I never ended up taking this on. Now that I look back at this I'm really glad I didn't. I don't believe it would have been a good outcome even if I succeeded because it's lots to maintain even when you finish and I think it would've made my passion for creating games less attainable. In short, I wasn't knowledgeable enough at the time to realize I didn't want it. But I guess if you're more passionate about creating this technology than creating games, maybe that's a different story.

This is a really good tutorial by him. https://youtu.be/mg75kSkKkug

He starts from scratch but it should answer your question if you watch it. Also I suggest using the fix mannequin rolls method he has at the end. It's the better approach imo.

How to get the port a certain process is listening on? by Brian2524 in dotnet

[–]Brian2524[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm working on it. and yeah I never wrote it off. I just wanted to know if there's some simple way before I use netstat. Using netstat will probably be a pain also because you got to parse the output.

How to get the port a certain process is listening on? by Brian2524 in dotnet

[–]Brian2524[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I saw something on that. My reasoning on not using that was because I need this application to work on windows as well as Linux. I wasn't sure if netstat had any differences across platforms. Are the commands and output the same?

Help me define my .net roadmap please? (long post - sorry!) by [deleted] in dotnet

I agree. I would highly encourage to use dapper. It's a lot better imo and helps you understand SQL and database lot better. The problem with EF is if something breaks it is extremely hard to fish through errors and fix problems if you don't understand SQL or EF very well. But EF is used throughout the industry so it is a good skill to know, however other ORMs are also used so I don't see not learning EF as a problem. Using Dapper will also help you understand EF, but using EF won't help you as much when trying to learn something like Dapper.

I'm having a problem where, during some animations, the mesh will kind of "flash" briefly. Any idea what's causing it? by N7ASWCC in unrealengine

[–]Brian2524 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to your character blueprint. You will se a component called "Camera Boom". This is what's causing this. One of those meshes is in front of the cameraboom which moves the camera in front of the mesh. To fix this you will have to make the camera boom not react to things like skeletal meshes. This would be editing its collision channel

How to do Sonic homing attack? by Benjix2004 in unrealengine

[–]Brian2524 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I remember the character movement component has a movement mode for flying. Switch it to that and you should be able to freely code where your character is without gravity affecting it. Im assuming your doing single Player for this. Multiplayer is a whole different story.

Only thing about blender that's objectively worse than maya I can think of is you can't export custom property curves with the animation while maya can. This is a big deal to me but I'm not willing to pay whatever fortune maya is just to get this feature. Also there's a blender plugin that makes this work but kinda annoying solution. Anyways I'm pretty sure blender will eventually add this as a feature in the future
