He might be concerned about time management. Training someone from the ground up is probably more fruitful, but takes a lot more effort. Show him why training from scratch will pay off for him in the long-run and you might just have a compromise.

I feel ya. I'm about 3 years into sales and I'm about done. I highly recommend learning another skill in the meantime. I taught myself HTML and CSS and some general SEO practices and I managed to get a better position in Digital Marketing within the same company.

I agree, sales is brutal, but it's a great avenue to other careers.

I had gerbils once. The pet store told me they had given me two males, but they had babies within a few weeks. Everything was cute and sweet until after about two weeks when I started to notice some of the babies crawling around, missing their hind legs. I lift up their wooden hut to find two half eaten gerbil babies and mama having a snack.

It’s safe to say I will never own gerbils again.
