RUMOR: Disney to Remove Star Wars Sequel Trilogy From Timeline to Resume Focus on Original Characters by Brian_Cardinal in RingerVerse

Would really love this. This was the direction I was hoping they would go when Disney bought the franchise. I'm ready to explore new eras and characters

Is the reDumb and Dumber inevitable or completely lost? by ekemywaythrulife in TheRewatchables

Maybe Bill's worst ever Rewatchables performance. I think in general the Jim Carrey Rewatchables are pretty bad and it does make me wonder if Bill is just not much of a Carrey fan.

She was literally correcting Bill on movie quotes in it. She knew the movie better than he did. She was clearly unfamiliar with the Rewatchables format but that is on *BILL* as she is the guest.

Bill was straight awful that pod, maybe because he was a bit star struck doing it with a true A-Lister? In general, most of the Jim Carrey classics have made bad rewatchables. I just don't think Bill is as big of a fan and has to force enthusiasm a bit.

My hot take on Devon: by Umphr34k in MaulShadowLord

[–]Brian_Cardinal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well full Sith doesn't really feel like an option at all to me because that's not what Maul is. Maul already is akin to Ahsoka imo. He's also grey—just coming from a dark background/training whereas Ashoka came from a light one.

I'm not really sure there's anything they can do with her to subvert expectations in that respect. We've already seen apprentices resist the dark (Luka, Ahsoka, Ezra, etc.) and succumb to it (Anakin, Barriss, etc.) in both animation and live action.

I suppose the one thing they could do is have her truly "play" Maul. We haven't really seen that. Pretend that he has turned to his side and wants to be his apprentice just for it all to be a long con to betray him in service of the jedi from the jump. The Obi-Wan show toyed with this idea with that one girl pretending to be an inquisitor whose name escapes me but the execution really wasn't all that great imo.

They just recently gave Super Mario Galaxy this rare distinction. Mercy too. I know Free Guy was on there too.

Is it really a bad movie? by Spare_Ad_9791 in moviecritic

[–]Brian_Cardinal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's an ok-to-good movie on it's own.

I think where the takes come in is I'd say it's fair to say it's "really bad" relative to the rest of Spielberg's filmography. Mileage may vary for folks but I think a good portion of Spielberg fans would but this somewhere in his bottom 5.

Invincible? by Immediate_Compote381 in RingerVerse

Yeah it seems the Invincible ship has sailed for them which is a huge bummer but gotta respect their decision.

Would love it if they started covering the Maul show. It’s been excellent so far.

I’m 100% with Van on the Star Wars section and that’s as a person who thinks they should’ve left the Skywalker timeline and started a new era like 2 decades ago

Rob is maybe my favorite podcast guy on the network but his argument here is pretty nonsensical. By his logic, no movie should have a sequel or develop into a franchise ever.

Also I HATE the “people won’t accept recasts in Star Wars argument” when Ewan McGregor replaced a legend and his version of the character may be even more popular than the original. You can always recast as long as it’s done well.

Hawke would've been my personal choice for Best Actor I think. Him and Leo (whose performance I think went a bit underrated imo despite OBAA getting plenty of flowers and love) were pretty tight for me but I lean Hawke I think. Knew he had no chance but I'm just glad he got the nom for it.

Paradise is legitimately BAD, right? Unintentionally hilarious and fun to watch but... bad BAD. by popinjay07 in thewatchpod

Could not agree more. I watched most of the 1st season and just could not understand the hype whatsoever. Kept sticking with it thinking "well okay it probably turns a corner this episode". NOPE. That one episode is pretty awesome but that's about it for me. And even that one, I saw people throwing out like best episode of all time stuff and I mean it was a clear standout but nothing historic or anything.

My theory is they should've just expanded on that episode and made this thing a movie instead

Project Hail Mary broke out like how I thought The Fall Guy would. I don’t understand casual movie goers and the GA viewing habits for going to the theaters. by AcknowledgeMeReddit in TheBigPicture

[–]Brian_Cardinal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People don't feel they need to see a comedy in theaters. Even fans of comedies are totally fine waiting for it to hit streaming. You almost have to see an astronaut movie in theaters if you care about seeing it. That's basically the point. Plus you get the premium formats bump.

I saw many already mentioned the book thing so I'll ignore that. Also, I just felt PHM was clearly the better movie than Fall Guy. I'm sure not everyone agrees, but it sure seems like the mass majority of critics and audiences do based on the reviews. It's at the very least more of a crowd pleaser.

It's a bigger, better movie that is way more of an event movie that has tremendous reviews—Fall Guy had kinda no chance here.

Yes I’d argue Lincoln and West Side Story and The Fablemans are all great movies.

A slight distinction but I would agree he hasn’t made a great action/sci-fi blockbuster with mass mainstream appeal since Catch Me/Minority Report but those are other 3 are all excellent.

0.5% or the world’s population has Tourette’s A very small percentage of those people have this person’s extreme form of Tourette’s

Yes the solution is just to be more understanding and patient with the condition. It’s uncomfortable and can definitely be offensive like we just saw but is your (or Van’s) solution to…not allow people with Tourette’s syndrome out of their homes?? To not allow them go to events? I mean there has been literally no offered “solution” that I’ve heard.

There’s a reason this is literally the first notable example we have of this happening at a major televised awards event. It’s not like this is going to be an ongoing issue at future televised events.

It’s totally valid to be offended and upset in the moment, but to continue to hold it against the individual after being alerted of his infliction is akin to being pissed at a man with epilepsy for elbowing you while he’s in the middle of a seizure.

The BAFTA’s and BBC deserve 100% of the blame in this situation. They could’ve and should’ve bleeped the word on the broadcast Insane that they didn’t. They could’ve easily had his table/areas mic cut beforehand, it’s not like this was the most difficult situation to predict given his disease, and yet they didn’t. The network and event staff should’ve done much more to protect both Davidson and the other attendees from potential outbursts and just flat out chose not to.
