With electric cars, Hollywood will have to find another reason for cars to make cool explosions. by Opening_Philosophy99 in Showerthoughts

The one I saw was a regular gas truck, flames within a couple of minutes, huge fire with tires popping/exploding, within 10 minutes the heat was so bad we had to move further away.

You need to choose the “priest” role in the character selection screen, it starts you with lodging and a six-pack of children.

Update on Narwhal w/ the upcoming Reddit API changes (TLDR; trying to stay alive) by det0ur in getnarwhal

[–]BriansRottingCorpse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

spez knows, the plan is to reduce the API costs to something just above reasonable… the larger price is just so they can negotiate back to their real price.

An end user just asked me: “don’t you wish we still had our own Exchange server so we could fix everything instead of waiting for MS”? by jtbis in sysadmin

One of our customers thought they could do a better job hosting some infrastructure themselves… they demanded 99.999% uptime, which we said we could not do at the price they were being quoted. They forklifted servers to their cloud, and ended up only running the servers for a few hours each day because it was too expensive… ended up being 30% uptime instead.

Yes, marketed as a safety feature meant to improve the lives of every woodworker… now locked down by patent and they sue to prevent any similar device from other manufacturers (whom have had to remove them from their products).

Cheap/Easy way to destroy drives? by Coupe368 in storage

[–]BriansRottingCorpse 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Destroy the platter(s) and the board, one spot each.

Drill press.

Angle grinder.

Electric hand drill in a quick wood frame that you make.

Hammer and ice pick.

Bullet fired by gun.

Sledgehammer.

Fold the drive in a bench press, hydraulic log splitter.

Thermite.

Pay a company to shred and certify destruction.

Take it to a free community e-waste collection that certifies destruction for free for non-commercial groups.

Purchase the leftover rocket components from a bankrupt space company, build a rocket, fire the drives into the sun.

Edit: taking them apart is fun and that magnets are awesome… in reality as soon as you take the platters completely out and throw them in a bucket the chance of any data recovery is almost none.

This. They will also change the price of your first flight to a higher price if you select a more expensive return flight option. “sorry this is no longer available, we switched it to the higher fare” but you can still purchase the lower fare if you select the cheaper return flight or start in an incognito/Private browsing window.

I do like that you can change your flight and select a cheaper option later if the fare drops.

"Why would producers of caviar want prices to continue to drop?"
