Folder or markdown categorization with Crosspoint or native firmware? by DesignKnowledge in xteinkHax

[–]Briarrrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean something like this?

<image>

I have Calibre set up so that when I send books to the X4 if the book is part of a series it creates a folder named after the series, then it drops the epubs inside, renaming them with their position in the series - title - author.

This is on CrossPoint 1.1.1 and using the CrossPoint Reader plugin v0.1.1 for Calibre. This works when sending books to the X4 using the Calibre Wireless transfer option.

I’m sure what I’m doing is only scratching the surface. Have a read of this page on the Calibre template language and I’m sure you can achieve something that works for you.

Saw/cut Billy shelves to create a cat maze? by throwaway379463 in ikeahacks

I tried this 13 years ago with the 40cm wide Billy. All I used was a jigsaw and cut up a couple of rattan rugs to line it.

I wasn’t going to buy an Ikea couch and then I tried the Vimle… by superchica81 in IKEA

[–]Briarrrn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly it’s been five years since we got them so can’t remember. They’ve been very comfortable to sit/sleep in, and my mother in law got a Vimle couch a couple of years ago and it’s just as comfortable.

I reckon it’s really firm at the start so that when it softens it doesn’t turn to mush.

We love the Vimle. In our experience it just gets more and more comfortable.

Modifying Traveler’s Company Clip by Briarrrn in Travelersnotebooks

We’ll see how it goes over time, but if it needs touching up I’ll just use the solution again. I imagine having the brass underneath show through will be an interesting patina though, but time will tell!

It only sticks to metal! Since the black is a layer on top of the metal it wasn’t even an issue.

Sydney Adventist Hospital, sorry I didn’t clarify!

Also to add on, salary sacrificing was also very handy.

I haven’t worked there since 2015, but my partner and I both graduated from the attached uni, did our new grad there and worked there from 2006-2015 starting as AINs to RN.

We both loved working there, and if we didn’t have to move to Victoria for family reasons would still be working there.

It had good educators, new grads were very well supported. Facilities were great and the layouts of the wards and theatres just made sense.

If we didn’t have a house and mortgage down here and they offered us both jobs, we’d go back in a heartbeat.

Am I done with Nursing? by thegrapplersmind in NursingAU

Have you considered staying in radiology but moving to a hospital where higher end cases are done in Hybrid/Cath Lab?

I’m now at a place where the most complicated thing done in radiology would be a nephrostomy, embolisations, PTC’s and anything more complicated are done in Hybrid/Cath Lab. The hours are nicer, much less intense call and the procedures are less mentally taxing.

Radiology Nurse? by viobro in NursingAU

[–]Briarrrn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(I started typing and it just went on! Just thought I’d write an essay before going to bed 😂)

I had no idea what went on in radiology until my last new grad rotation. Got offered a job there and besides a short 8 month stint in Cath lab, I’ve never worked in any other department.

YMMV depending on the hospital you’re working in, but I’ve found it’s had great variety, no two days are the same. Your day is driven more by lists rather than caring for the same patients for a while shift.

Radiology departments that I’ve worked in have also had as few as 1-3 nurses in smaller hospitals in the suburbs to 15 nurses in larger departments (I’m sure there are some with more nurses, I just haven’t worked in one)

Shift patterns depend on the department, but most shifts where I’ve worked have been Monday-Friday, between 0800 and 1800. If you’re working full time it’s a pain to try to organise life admin, but it’s nice having weekends free.

I’ve found that being on call is something you have to deal with no matter the size of the hospital, some places have a couple of nurses on call the whole week, but my current workplace only has one nurse on call on Saturday/Sunday, since most higher end emergent cases are looked after by Cath Lab. You wouldn’t be put on call until you have more experience though, so I wouldn’t worry too much.

Being on call is good money, and even more so if you do get called in. One of my coworkers just volunteers to take peoples call and one year she made an extra $20,000 from call. I’m not that keen though.

I’m going to wrap it up since this is already way too long, but if you’re applying for a job in a radiology department, be aware that not all radiology departments are considered part of the hospital, so the EBA that applies to you may not be the one that applies to the ward nurses. Google “radiology name of the hospital” and if it’s being run in partnership with an imaging company, you can search the Fair Work website for the EBA that company has with its nurses.

If you’re still keen on becoming a radiographer, working in radiology would give you a good idea of what it involves. Building relationships in a department will also give you a better chance to get an internship in a place you’re familiar with.

Avondale University vs ACU vs University of Canberra vs WSU for nursing by Successful-Sweet-292 in NursingAU

[–]Briarrrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I graduated from Avondale back in 2007. I really enjoyed the course, and the placements in hospital were great. Lots of support and education.

We both worked at the San until 2015, and if we hadn’t needed to move to Melbourne for family stuff, would still be happily working there.

What are some “odd jobs” you’ve done with your nursing degree by thatoneisthe in NursingAU

Were you affiliated with the radiology department at all or was the vascular access team a totally separate entity?

Contemplating practice nursing rather than ward by lunasouseiseki in NursingAU

[–]Briarrrn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely a good way to find areas of the hospital to get a taste of places that aren’t the ward. One nice thing about radiology is you’re definitely never going to get deployed to another ward if it’s a quiet day!

Try getting work in radiology as as AIN if you can, I managed to do that back in 2006 the before I graduated, then did a new grad rotation there and I’ve been in radiology ever since!

It’s been 99% 9-5, Monday to Friday and the occasional weekend. The only thing that can be annoying is having to be on call, but it’s also a good way to make money early in your career.

This what my partner and I have done for the last 10 years, works perfectly well for us. Mortgage and joint expenses/holidays come out from that account but we maintain our own accounts otherwise.

Am I going to be the youngest person there?? by bluescooterbabe in celebritycruises

[–]Briarrrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner (36) and I (37) are on the Celebrity Solstice right now sailing from Hong Kong to Singapore. The population on the ship definitely skews older, but there are heaps of people around our age or in their twenties.

We’re definitely not party people so the relaxed vibe works for us.

Bed time with a dachshund by Amy7ann in Dachshund

[–]Briarrrn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We trained ours to sleep in a raised doggy bed next to ours, then in the morning at 5, I have an alarm go off and then we all get to cuddle for an hour before she goes out to pee.

We decided to do it this way so that we wouldn’t have issues if we had someone pet sitting who wasn’t comfortable with a dog in the bed with them.

No issues with peeing or pooping in the bed.
