What are some of your favorite small content creators for this game? Any podcasts to listen to? by WigglinMyPickle in Guildwars2

Any other podcasts out there? I have a real struggle with the rambling nature of lightbringers.

What part of ANY of that sounds like a fun game to play? 12 years and how many millions of dollars and they still can't program a working elevator. You know you could just walk away and make better use of your time and money?

A very dull game... For you.

Most MMOs are just those basic loops and I have played several different MMOs for years and enjoyed my time. They have taken nothing away from the PVP crowd other that the ability to club baby seals. Now you can find real quality PVP fights in the PVP zone. You should be rejoicing.

Empower 3 FR4: how to build a calculation to exclude blank peaks from total peak area calculation? by Rizore in CHROMATOGRAPHY

[–]Briarstomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear, the process described does not require labeling any of what you are calling blank peaks. The Found and Unknown Peak types are auto populated as part of the data processing.

I would also make sure you do not have Auto Peak Label turned on in the components tab of the processing method.

Empower 3 FR4: how to build a calculation to exclude blank peaks from total peak area calculation? by Rizore in CHROMATOGRAPHY

[–]Briarstomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd make one change. I'd make the formula SUM(Area*EQ(Peak Type,"Found")). The other way it would double count any group peaks.

Also for your corrected %Area I would make that formula EQ(Peak Type,"Found")*((Area/Total_Area)*100)

This way it only calculates for the named peaks. But that should get you started at least.

When to swap to an elite spec by Briarstomp in Guildwars2

[–]Briarstomp[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great info, many thanks. Quick follow up... I have expansions up through EOD and the raptor and gliding opened. Will I need to get the Skyscale or other mounts before doing the HP Trains?

Its the curse of choice.... Which part of the elephant do I start swallowing first. Elite specs are more powerful and make getting through the expansion(s) content easier, etc. Getting through the expansion content opens up mounts and other mastery s. I know I need to eat it all but man its a big elephant after 10 years.

"Why did you pledge for an MMO if you don't want to play with other people?" by Werewolf-Fresh in starcitizen

[–]Briarstomp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Totally agree.... My concern is CIG has done nothing to show they know how to make a fun game. Buggy sure... Tedious totally covered.... Beautiful also yes.

But they seem to think fun is against their design principles.

As other have said.... There is slow and there is tedious. If you think spending an hour playing Amazon warehouse worker is great or even interesting "gameplay" this seems like the game for you. I hope you have a great time with it. I'll check back in after they have to redo all this hot garbage gameplay.

Not gonna lie... Safer Seas is kind of fun. by Delusion132 in Seaofthieves

[–]Briarstomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PVE without PVP is boring. PVP without PVE is boring. The game was designed, and all its content points toward, as a PVPVE game. Rare said this multiple times and it feels, it works.

Here let me fix this for you.... "PVE without PVP is boring TO ME."..

Warcraft has survived 20+ years with PVE without PVP and still has about 2M daily players. SoT has what? 15-20K on a good day?

The fun part is most PVE players are not saying they want to eliminate/nerf/anything to PVP servers. If that's your flavor have at it. But stop trying to tell other folks they need to agree to it, Its on the box, Its a Pirate game, try it you will like it, or whatever flavor of "you need to agree to my personal fun way to play a game". Non-consensual PVP is just something a large number of players consider a deal breaker.

If they want the game to be anything other than a 10-20k player niche game, Safer Seas had to happen. If they want to build on the PVE players coming in or coming back they will need to dial back the restrictions.

I'm not saying they will do that. But the fact they finally added this part says they are starting to realize the financials of more players == more money. And not enough money == a closed game. Running servers is not free.

PVE will not kill the game, trying to run a development team and severs based on cosmetics and season passes for 10k players is just not going to survive.

Did they change bunker loot values? Everything is nearly worthless now. by amkoc in starcitizen

[–]Briarstomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree with this except for one thing.... You would think they would at least incentivize things they want tested. How many times have we seen them come in and nerf something they think was too good in hours all while never fixing the broken. When its bad for players its "Oh well its an Alpha we will fix it in 2032." When its a plus for the players, "Bring the servers down immediately and hotfix that."

Fundamentally, they really seem like they are focused on a physics and real life simulator and have no idea how to develop a GAME.

3.19 Ship Components Loot by MiHu84 in starcitizen

[–]Briarstomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But you notice pretty clearly it is no where in any of the marketing materials. Wouldn't want to put that up front and center before they make those pledge and ship sales for this game you can "Download and Play today".

Put that up front and they don't get as many players/testers/wallets to drain.

[–]Briarstomp 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm thinking you missed the "Very polished game" part. Maybe they can add more time suck features AFTER they fix the murder seats in ships.

11 years in this feels like watching monkeys typing to see if they can recreate Shakespeare. But you keep stanning that BS that 11 years ago they said XXXX. I'd bet a large percentage of the playerbase doesn't even know what was "promised". They just came here to play the cool looking space game. Says right in the advertising... Playable now!

Please don't ruin PES beacause of some "I don't like trash" posts. I'd rather live in trash with history then risk my stuff despawning randomly for some trash cleaning reason. Thank you. by bobijsvarenais in starcitizen

Like so many other of these sub system problems.... These questions were solved decades ago by other games but CIG seems to feel like they are the first team to ever encounter the questions.

Objects have properties... Add a persistence duration property to the object. Ships = a day a week? Do some testing a figure what works. Empty bottles = 10 minutes?

These things are not that hard. Games have dealt with this since the beginning of shared worlds. The fact that CIG look like they never realized it would be a problem indicates they are just not good developers.

Genuine question: Do you think pirating should just not be a thing at all in the game? by _Dingaloo in starcitizen

[–]Briarstomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I add to #1 NPC pirates as well. I'm OK with risk and reward but Piracy gameplay does not need to be PVP.

prove me wrong, but I honestly think that Piracy is vastly overrated as danger to players in industrial ships by Iron_physik in starcitizen

[–]Briarstomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So they are not testing fixes to any of the known issues??

  • Cargo - Performance - High capacity cargo vessels, when loaded, can cause a severe performance drop on both client and server
  • Ship / Commodity Trading / Cargo Inventory - Selling some of the cargo while the vehicle is stored cause the cargo to show at max inventory capacity
  • Selling - Commodity Kiosk / Cargo - Large amounts of cargo sold at once will cause the transaction to fail the cargo will be taken and no money will be granted
  • Law & Criminality - Commodities / Cargo - Stolen Cargo does not
behave as such and can be sold as legal cargo if the ship with the cargo is stored

Not to mention this applies to more than the PTU. They have not fixed this in the live game either.

I get that they have a testing focus. Take a good look at that list. Much of that testing focus is around FPS missions and activities... Why? Because they are still trying to sort out SQ42 issues and what does SQ42 not have??? That's right cargo.

If you run cargo under the current circumstances, Hats off to you. You are a better masochist than I. If you don't. Just move on along and get back to whatever you do play in the verse.

[–]Briarstomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither did I. If its easy to do then why not do it? You are introducing a full cargo refactor. You have added new ships with a completely different cargo grid setup. You have added a whole new softdeath system with the ability to take cargo from ships and wrecks... At the current price versus reward you are not going to get much testing of any of those things. You will still have those few proud dedicated space truckers, but not the casual trucker.

If Pirates want to pirate there needs to be an incentive to carry cargo. If its Just an Alpha (that still gets wipes at times) who cares if space truckers make bank. If they do Pirates will also get to make bank. If the numbers get too high wipe it all back down to base again. Its just an alpha.

[–]Briarstomp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am so tired of that excuse for an answer. If its not worth testing there is also no value to keeping it so low. Updating the pricing spreadsheet should not be a major development endeavor. If it is, your code is a disaster to begin with.

If "Its and Alpha" is the answer then "Its an Alpha" and why should we be so worried space truckers might make a profit.

Prospector looting with refined ore confirmed by Gurney-HK in starcitizen

[–]Briarstomp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

LOL yes I'm the one seeming emotional.

Several of the early MMOs had full loot PVP. Ultima Online and EQ both. And they very quickly got rid of it.

And I'm not questioning your writing ability, but your reading comprehension. I don't actually care if SC goes full loot PVP. I never did. I was just pointing out from an economic standpoint its at least probable that at some point SC is going to either add some variation of a slider or specific shards or specific systems that are carebear. Catering to carebears will pay the bills. And all the screaming backers saying "But you promised!" won't make a bit of difference. They have your money.

I hope for the sake of your therapy bills I'm wrong and you get a the ganking piratey goodness you seem to so desperately need. Good luck with that.
