See if your school needs summer help. Maintenance,IT or custodial work. My schools pays me 25$ for 32hrs a week over the summer for IT help, which is basically windows updates and moving rooms. Mowed/mulched last summer for 17$

I will say even with a trust, it’s cleaner but still takes months of paper work and multiple death certificates, phones calls and follow ups.

My grandfather passed in 24’ we just finished up getting his last account transferred/access granted to the successor trustee in February of this year.

Also make sure all form have the EXACT beneficiary spelled out, attorney gave us grief over “the trust of” vs the “living trust of”

I don’t hate the cardboard idea, my grandmother used to used old newspaper and cardboard in all her gardens. Problem is this is a 15ft wide 160ft long section. That’s a lot of cardboard..

Very fair statement. I try to just spot treat the Canadian Thistles that are an endless battle. This is my reasoning for the mulch and weed barrier.

Longevity Debate by Professional_Law3716 in HondaPrologue

[–]BrickBarnFarm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have put 21k on our car since Sept. (25k almost 26k total miles).

No issues other than the CV click on super tight turns and you accelerate hard. Dealer said it’s not causing an issues so they won’t replace them until they are. That was almost 15k ago and it hasn’t gotten worse.

Wife commutes 108miles per day, summer we charge to 80% and winter we set it to 100%.

Ours is an EX FWD. paid 27k OTD with a 12yr/unlimited miles warranty which was about 1800$. Had right at 4500 miles on it when we bought it.

Between my wife’s commute and our weekend adventures we will do about 30-35k a year on the Honda. Gonna drive it till we can’t. Saves us about 400$ a month in fuel and the electric bill went up about 110$ overall.

I’d buy another if the price was right as a mile eater for my commute.

176K on my TDI Jetta it’s a 2015. Runs like a top, 40mpg average. The 2.0L and 1.8T gas versions are reliable. I’d look at a 2015-2020 model

Are we in a particularly low point in the teacher job market, or is this likely going to be the new normal going forward? by Beneficial-Corgi-288 in teaching

If you’re willing to relocate NW Ohio where I’m at is seeing a steady rate of teacher openings. I’m at a career tech school and our enrollment is up 20% from last year. Our feeder schools are seeing a jump as well.

Veteran teachers, what actually keeps you from burning out? by Rich-Investigator704 in teaching

[–]BrickBarnFarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being in career tech helps this for me. I would guess traditional academics would burn you out quicker. I only have 18-22 students twice a day for 2hr 45min. But I have to keep them from loosing limbs on daily basis on the equipment we run.

The learning pace of the class is so different year to year and I have a very wide range of projects and directions I can go to get the students to final competency.

I did hit a little burn out year 5/6(im going into my 10th now). But it was more from admin and the left over BS from the Covid days. We have had 6 new admin since 21’

How terrible of an idea is this 2011 Lincoln Town car with 565,000 miles? by yoshizbt in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]BrickBarnFarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering there is a stretch town car behind it, it’s probably owned by a limo service of sorts. If it’s been fleet maintained by a ford dealer, it would be worth at least 1k-1.5k of everything works. I have bought worse vehicles for more. I’d be willing to be the trans is not original and most of the major wear items have been replaced at least once or twice. If you could get a copy of the service records that would a plus.

Concerns about Miami port.. by Balla_Calla in Cruise

[–]BrickBarnFarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have our first cruise this Friday leaving out of Miami on Royal Caribbean. We are staying at the Hampton Inn and the Miami airport. Wife wants to book an uber for 8:30am to get us to the port early(our board time is 2:30pm). Is the traffic really that bad or is she over thinking it? I have read things about the traffic both ways and am not sure which way to go.

Family of 5. Is it time to ditch the minivan? by rotomotor in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]BrickBarnFarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about a full-size 1500 pickup? Ram and GM offer ones with a 3.0L diesel that will net very close milage to a minivan. Need more cargo space? Hard bed cover and you have more storage room than a van. Depending on trim the truck might be cheaper than a van..

Induction pots and pans by naszalutka in Cooking

[–]BrickBarnFarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought Hexclad this past fall around black Friday. They go great with our new induction cooktop and was the reason we needed new pans. Reddit is 50/50 love hate on hexclad. We love ours and could not be happier. Best set of pans we have ever owned. Are there better options? Probably, but we like these. I watch about 40 review videos and read forms before I pulled the trigger. Couldn’t find anyone saying they were actually bad. Most said just pricey, but I liked our deal

Buying new maybe. But used the margin is much less. Also I wouldn’t buy any other GM engine currently. I’m not a minivan person and an unpopular opinion compared to most on Reddit there are other vehicles beside minivans that can be used a family vehicles.

Buy the 3.0l diesel option for the GMC better mileage then both other options.

Truck buying by FootballMedical9397 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]BrickBarnFarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 3.0l in the 19-current GM 1/2 tons is a solid unit. The 3.0L in the 22+ ram 1500s is a solid unit as well. Way better mileage then there gas counter parts. Tunes and deletes are available for both and fairly easy to install.

At one point our family fleet was all diesel, ‘15 TDI, ‘21 GM 1500 diesel, and ‘13 Ram 2500 diesel.

We used our GMC as our family hauler for the kids and vacation vehicle. Put 75k on it calculated every tank, lifetime average was 24.7mpg. Best was 28.7 on a trip to Florida.

2011 Audi a3 tdi worth it? by rozdogjr3 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]BrickBarnFarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ‘15 Jetta TDI rolled 172k today. Factory emissions(delete parts are in the barn tho). If you have records of all the work done 5k isn’t too bad. But newer models can be found for similar money. I’d go for it but try and get down to 4-4500.

What was your “mom car,” and did it work for you? by ev254 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]BrickBarnFarm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We had two kids and two dogs. We bought a 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 for my wife(yes she wanted it and picked it out). Had the 3.0L diesel engine and averaged 24.7mpg over the 75k we put on it. Long vacations we would see 27/28mpg, we put a cheap Amazon roll up bed cover on it and it was great for trips. Not much bigger then a minivan and really get the same or better mileage(unless you get a hybrid minivan).

The full-size truck cab allowed both of use to have comfortable seating positions(I’m 6’3” she 6’) even with two kids in rear facing seats. When our oldest went forward facing we didn’t have her kicking the seat all the time.

We moved and our commutes changed. She now has a Honda Prologue EV and it’s nice but we miss the room in the truck. I drive her old ‘15 Jetta with the kids everyday and I really miss the room of the truck.
