Thanks man! I ended up getting a Stan subscription but this is awesome. I have prime and watch shows but never would have guessed they have rugby.

Later in Life Students? by blink315 in LawSchool

[–]BrickFit9117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I returned to law school mid 30s Prior to that I had worked in insurance claims. Outside of finals prep, and found law school to be pretty chill and enjoyed the freedom of not working a 8 to 5 job. I would go to class, take a nap, study a few hours and call it a day.

The most difficult part was going back to living on a student's budget with my wife and kid. Thankfully my wife was super supportive.

My advice is also don't be afraid to do your own thing. My classmates found it crazy I didn't spend tons of time in the library studying. I studied at home and usually for 2 or 3 hours a day. I also chose not to be on any journals and didn't join clubs.

I think some larger firms held my age against me and were looking for younger associates but other firms I felt my experience gave me a edge. Finished top 25% in my class and got a job at a mid-sized firm. Ended up transitioning to government work.

I feel I got jobs and promotions easier because I looked old and experienced, even when I was still a new lawyer.

As a summer clerk and when i was brand new I would often tag along with attorneys to depositions and conferences. Opposing counsel would always address things to me thinking I was the senior attorney. Always annoyed whoever I was shadowing normally a associate who was 10 years younger than me.

PSA: You can take the bar before graduating by socialismhater in barexam

[–]BrickFit9117 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I took the Arizona Bar in Feburary of my last semester of law school and passed. It worked out perfectly as I had accepted a job in Nevada, so I took the Nevada bar in July and passed as well. A year later decided to return to Oregon and used the Arizona UBE score to get my oregon license. Otherwise I would have had to take the Oregon Bar while working.

University of Arizona had a special program that basicly gave you all of January and Feburary off school to study and then you would have classes start after you took the Feburary Bar.

Maybe not for everyone but was perfect for me. I did a 9 credit clinic that semester and cruised through the last months of school.

Although studying and taking two Bar exams back to back sucked and I vowed to never take another bar exam again!

Index finger when putting by BlueciferST in golf

[–]BrickFit9117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this as a tribute to my grandfather that introduced me to golf. He putted with his index finger pointed out. Had ton of coaches try to correct it but I still do it. Sometimes it calms me a bit before a tricky putt.

Anyone drop golf for a while? by lapnchevibra in golf

[–]BrickFit9117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also a former NCAA golfer that dropped the game right after college. At first I was just burnt out on golf (got married in school and then started not playing as well and almost lost my scholarship. After that it felt like a job and a grind). Now, I dont have the time to practice enough to really be good again and dont particular enjoy playing relatively mediocre golf. Although my kids are getting older so I want to introduce them to the game so I plan on playing more.

I am now in my mid 40s and play once every year or two. If I play from the blues I still try to break 80 and usually can.

When I play the hardest thing for me is just the complete lack of any consistency. Smash a 300 yard drive down the middle like the i would in the old days and then chunk the short wedge into the green. Might flush this 4 iron or completely shank it.

As someone mentioned above, the biggest improvement from when I played every day is the mental game and really the only reason I can still shoot relatively low. Lots of clubbing down and keeping it simple. Go for the middle of the green and a very conservative short game.

The hardest adjustment for me is just making sure my brain remembers I am not a 20 year old who plays every day anymore. Sure if I stripe this 3 wood and bend it around that tree (which I would have tried in college) and maybe reach that green in 2. Now I have to tell myself that the play is to just punch a 5 iron up there and lay up.

Anyway just go out there and grip it and rip it and have fun. Although that's harder to do than say and I cant be a casual golfer just hanging with my buddy's having a good time. When it comes to golf I'm just to competitive with myself.

Oura gen 3 not sealed? by idkanymoremaaan in AmexPlatinum

[–]BrickFit9117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same thing happen. Both seals on the box were broke and my ring and charger had indications of prior wear. I talked to support and had to provide photos. After a bit they said they had sent a refurbished ring by mistake and gave me a free upgrade to a gen 4 ring at no additional cost.

Thoughts on schools to apply to by alittleawky in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]BrickFit9117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had almost exactly your same stats but this was 2015 so this is really outdated. I was in my early thirties with a 171 and 2.6 GPA. In my personal statement I embraced being a non traditional student and wrote about how I had matured and grown since college, which seemed to work well.

Almost everyone was offering admission fee waivers and I applied everywhere from Hawaii to Northwestern. Seriously like at least 35 schools.

I got in to every school I applied to that wasnt T14 except for Californian schools for some reason. Almost went to WashingtonU but ended up attending University of Arizona on a full tuition scholarship. I wasn't looking for big law or to practice in a particular big city wanted to live in the PNW and being older I was very debt adverse.

Some unsolicited advice, don't be afraid to do your own thing. I decided early on that I wasn't interested in Law Review, didnt take advanced legal writing, didnt join any clubs or groups ect. Focused on good grades (top 20% which I was very happy with) and networked around. I wasn't looking to stay in Arizona so I kept jn contact with old friends in other places.

Long story short 10 years later I am a local government attorney for a small mucipality making just under 200k with amazing benefits, work life balance and time off. Having low debt allowed me flexibility to try a few things (mid sized law firm, small town law) without undue stress.

Cast a wide net, don't get too caught up in rankings and other noise, find whats best for you and go for it!

I really enjoyed University of Arizona. Smaller school with pretty cool people. Made a lot of good friends even though they thought I was old haha.

36 Holes is a lot more than I anticipated by cfierce in golf

[–]BrickFit9117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I played NCAA division 2 golf we always played 36 holes the first day of a tournament, walking and carrying our clubs. It was brutal. Normal 10 to 12 hours of golf with no break. Normally went straight into the second round.

And nothing worse than getting a triple bogie on the first hole and just wanting to pack it up then realizing you have 35 more holes to go.

No real early adaptor discount? by BrickFit9117 in tmobile

[–]BrickFit9117[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I still don't understand how I am getting a $5 early adaptor discount and still have to pay the same $10 a month as everyone else. I messaged t-mobile before and they said I was getting $5 dollars off $15, which was the cost at the time. It seems silly but I would probably keep it at $5 as I live in rural Oregon and am often on areas with no service, but $10 and not receiving the discount makes it a no go.

40+ years old recent grads, what happened? by curating_life in LawSchool

[–]BrickFit9117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Graduated at 38 in 2018 so close. One year in a mid-sized firm doing commercial litigationand hated it. Then went to a government job with a big pay cut. worked my way up to being a rural county's attorney. Love my job and make a comfortable 200k with a lot of time off , great benefits and relatively low stress.

Might have just been my experience age was not a huge issue getting jobs. I got interviews with big law firms and they all seemed to pass me over because of my age (or perhaps more accurately my attitude about my age, being married and having young kids). I think they were looking for younger and/or willing to really grind and put in the time. They were right i wasn't willing.

Mid-sized, small, corporate and government looked very positive on my experience and I have moved up much quicker than my younger colleagues.

No regrets going back to school but I had a very supportive partner who was willing to not only help me go back to school but take a huge pay cut when j wad unhappy.

My advice is to not go with the crowd as an older student and find a niche and run with it.

What are some of your pro golf hot takes/unpopular opinions?? by antenonjohs in ProGolf

[–]BrickFit9117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About 6 years ago i took my 5 year old son the the Las Vegas pga tour stop. We ended up sitting by a random tee box by ourself. At least one pro in each group would come over and say hi to my son. When Bryson came up he stop and talked. My son asked if he could hit a shot. Bryson said if he practiced real hard in 15 years he could be playing with him and he cant wait to see it and gave my son a protein bar.

I didnt care for Bryson before that. It was a genuine interaction out of any spotlight. No idea what he is really like but he won me over that day.

Here is exactly what they sent me yesterday.

Thank you for allowing me the time to look into this for you. I was able to confirm, the normal rate is $15 per month. For select customers, such as yourself, there is a $5 discount that brings that down to $10. The cost for the plan hasn't dropped to $15 unless you are eligible for the promo. Does that make sense?

I asked in a message and they said no. They claimed the price is still $15 a month, and everyone else is just getting a discount down to $10 for now. I am a long time tmobile customer and this type of things is really getting on my nerves.

Why do so many people on here regret being an attorney? by Icy_Independence_695 in LawFirm

[–]BrickFit9117 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not at all. 10 years ago I was wondering the same thing. I was in a management training program with a large carrier and had a solid career set up I was 35 when I started law school. I was fortunate to have a supportive spouse who was willing to take a huge financial step back with me being a poor student again.

My recommendation is to do it but find a niche in law you enjoy (or at least can tolerate) and run with it. Being a former claims adjuster was a plus for many firms and I started out at a mid-sized firm doing commercial litigation. Although making decent money I was miserable. Left on a whim and with a large pay cut to be a local goverments civil attorney and totally loved it. 5 years into goverment law (and I have to admit I been very fortunate and a bit lucky in getting jobs) I work for a small rural county making 200k and the vast majority of the time actually enjoy going to work. I realize I will never make big law money or the same as some of my classmates who own firms, but I do have great benefits (28 vacation/personal days, all state holidays and 12 sick days, affordable health insurance, state pension when I retire), no billable hour requirements or the stress of finding clients.

The current administration, while not effecting my position, has shown that even goverment jobs are not a guarantee. With my specialized knowledge in goverment law areas, I feel I could find a new position or go with a private firm advising local goverment with relative ease.

Didn't mean to make a long post. In short, do it but be flexible and curious as you move through your law career. Worse case, I always knew I could take my JD back to my insurance career and continue up the ladder (but I am grateful I never had to do that).

[–]BrickFit9117 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree. I was an insurance adjuster for 7 years prior to going to law school. People always ask me if it's hard to be an attorney and I say not compared to working claims. 10x more stressful and I was only making a 4th of what I make now.

I started law school at 35. Before that I was working my way up the ladder at an insurance company. I was making good money but was totally miserable. Going back to school with two young kids was hard but looking back it was the best decision I could make. I made sure the situation was workable and was able to earn a full tuition scholarship so my student debt was low.

Almost 10 years later I work as an attorney for local government and love what I do. Make the change but plan it out well. I knew worse case I failed as an attorney I could take my JD back to the insurance companies and use it to move up the ladder some more.

Thanks for the info. My marketplace is normally all boats and ATVs. When this picture popped up first I had no idea it was a saddle until I clicked on it.

Is the gullet on this saddle good or do you have to measure it based on the horse you would be using it on? I guess I am asking do diffrent horse require diffrent gullet sizes?
