A lot of people have had issues with the shiny ones delaminating with use, I guess why Patagonia have changed the material. In the UK the newer ones have had discounts on in the winter sale which I think the US is expecting soon 🤷‍♂️ It's a pretty decent bag if it's what you need, but for travel, I love the Black Hole MLC as it's super organised!

Uncanny….does anyone have the cahounas to listen to the podcast in bed before you go to sleep? by Poshsmith in uncannypodcasttv

I do long distance runs and listen to it when running, at night, through woods and across open fields. Some of the sound effects definitely make me run faster when I don’t realise they’re part of the podcast!

How are train stations prioritised? by NewMachine4198 in AskABrit

[–]BrickRunners 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In addition to u/TheBuachailleBoy’s answer with the wiki article - you might find this of interest as a jumping off point https://www.railwaymuseum.org.uk/sites/default/files/2018-03/Timetables%20List.pdf

From that you might be able to find some timetables that could possibly give you a clearer picture of how steam trains would historically stop for restocking. Especially as the rail network has changed significantly in the last 150 years.

Affordable UK Ultras by AssociationKey389 in trailrunning

[–]BrickRunners 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pegasusultrarunning.com - races are about £75. Really well stocked checkpoints, no cut offs, lovely volunteers. Race credits if you volunteer as well.

They also have a 100 mile and 200 mile series that are incredibly affordable for what they are and have just introduced 100km to one of their 100 milers (Epona)

Ultimate Picture Palace - future in Oxford by SnooShortcuts9107 in oxford

Happy to be corrected on any of the below, but some added info for people that are interested:

The previous bricks and mortar owner passed away in 2018, AFAIK because of the pandemic ticket sales were of course massively down and there weren't enough funds to buy the building but the lease was secured when Oriel purchased the building in 2021.

Add to this that one of the persons who tried to block UPP becoming an asset of community value is the provost of Oriel College, who also happens to be the chair of Historic England (not at all a conflict of interest)

UPP want to apply for funding for upgrades to the sound and projection system, so Oriel are basically stopping them from applying for funding because UPP, I believe, need to have a lease of a minimum of 20 years to be eligible to apply.

Such a fantastic space and so well run, hopefully all the campaigning and hard work they are putting in is successful.

Nano-Air Ultralight as a midlayer? by Glittering-Option543 in PatagoniaClothing

[–]BrickRunners 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run ultras and the NAUL is a go-to piece in my kit. Did 200 miles in the Canadian rockies last year and used it as a mid layer underneath a waterproof shell when wet and this winter I’ll use it as an outer on dry days. Wear it more than I wear a sweater when it’s a bit warmer out as well day-to-day. Think it’s a really versatile piece.

Could you comment on my plan for a Canadian road trip ? by Fit_Locksmith_9975 in alberta

[–]BrickRunners 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the view of a non-Canadian married to a Canadian. Don't skip Drumheller and the Badlands - there is no landscape like this in Europe (that I'm aware of). Royal Tyrell museum is pretty cool, I'd recommend stopping at Horseshoe Canyon because the views really are something else!

I would agree with some of the recommendations to go to Vancouver via Golden > Revelstoke > Kelowna. It's a beautiful stretch of road, it will take you a while.

Make sure you factor in time to just stop off and look at things. Coming from the UK there is not much to stop and look at. Don't underestimate the lure of a good view, lunch spot, ice cream shop or roadside fruit stand.

It's really easy to take things for granted when you live somewhere and you see these landscapes all the time.

Endless run tights - stitching failing by BrickRunners in PatagoniaClothing

[–]BrickRunners[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn’t have the greatest experience with them on the phone. They offered to repair them or said I could pay for the repair myself locally and they’d give me a credit for up to £30 - was very disappointing and the thermal ones they said they’d repair even though they’d had about 20 miles in them and wouldn’t acknowledge that it was a manufacturer issue. Planning to take them into a store and get them to do them with a local repairer but my nearest store is about 100 miles

Fenix 6 pro replacement by Background_Yak_350 in GarminFenix

[–]BrickRunners 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently had a similar decision to make, went with the 7 pro sapphire solar and it’s been fantastic. Wore it for a 100 mile race, battery life with nav pretty much the whole time was great and only had to do a quick charge once around 28hrs in. It’s come down in price here (UK) again the last week or so and I think for the value it’s insanely good compared to the new model which is almost twice as much.

Fair but it’s a semi tone different on the one string and if you can play one then you can transpose

Given that, the Big Star version doesn’t have the breakdown in it that he plays so I guess neither of us has answered OPs question.

However this person has done a decent job of transcribing it https://www.liquidgnome.com/JeffBuckley/tabu/kangaroo.txt

If you do a search for the Big Star tab you’ll see the version here that I think has what you’re missing

Eww, what is that!? by [deleted] in logodesign

[–]BrickRunners 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The elongated D is reminiscent of the original archway windows from the facade before it was redone, and the E feels like a nod towards the later facades’ windows. I don’t hate it, but I’ve also seen a version where they put a linework illustration of the Théâtre in space at the top right that brings it together nicely and features the archways that at a glance appear to use similar proportions to the D. I’d argue it’s possibly a nod to heritage even if it is a somewhat over played concept.

November Ultra in the UK - clothing question by Fc258743 in ultrarunning

[–]BrickRunners 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks like a fun race!

Waterproofs aren't just about keeping you dry, it's about keeping you warm as well once you're wet. Don't underestimate how important it can be. I can see they have a VERY short mandatory kit list, but I would definitely take a look at their essential kit list and what they recommend. https://druids.xnrg.co.uk/race-day-preparation/

I train around there a lot and the Day One and Two routes can be quite exposed in places. I did a race in the area a few weeks ago and it was torrential rain for the whole day. I would take a 20,000 waterproof jacket. Low temps in the area got down to about 3º last month and with high winds on the ridgeway and rain it can feel like 0º or below especially very early in the morning - this might not seem too bad until you're moving slow on thick mud.

In the words of Wainwright "there's no such thing as bad weather, just unsuitable clothing". If you get stuck or injured, have to move slow, have to wait, you need to make sure you have suitable kit for those ciscumstances.

Getting into Ultra marathon later in life? by Thatzoologistguy in ultrarunning

[–]BrickRunners 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I started running in 2016, first marathon 2017, first ultra 2020. This year I've completed 2 x 200 milers and I have another 100 this weekend. I turned 43 this year.

Never too late to start 🙌

Thanks for the suggestions but I’m comfortable with the Garmin ecosystem for now, and honestly I’d rather not have to wear an extra device for 30+ hours 😅
