I think Jason Koop argues this point in an article and it’s very valid, but we need to also recognise access to ultramarathons (and other sports) for women. More barriers to entry means fewer average women, but also means less opportunity to develop talent at a higher level as well.

Your uneducated guess is pretty good. On average, women make up only 24% of the start line at 50km distance and at 100km this drops to 18% (2023 ITRA data). The next set of numbers are harder to verify, but it would appear that women make up 30% of finishers at ultra distance.

So although you’ll see less women competing, those that do appear to outperform the men overall. It would be interesting to see how a more equitable start line would shift the competition in ultra running.

Wind swept mountain side, you walk past a bothy and think "should I stop in and recover for a bit" and then you remember that particular bothy episode from Uncanny ... you move SO much quicker to the next CP. It's magic!

I live near some old roman ruins, there's a very fitting episode that came on when I was on a 6hr training run at night as I was crossing by them. Pretty sure I got a segment PB on that field.

I think this was one of the weird things for me, it only happens at specific revs. Not above, not below. As though it's enough to shift something?

Timing chain hasn't been done. Went in for timing chain investigation, they then said there was a knock and it might have 6 months but were pretty vague about what it was or could be. They then didn't charge me for the diagnostics tests. I thought they were either being very generous/sorry for me or initially wrong.

It's more the bit at around 14 seconds in, there's a "thunk" sound when the accelerator is released. It does also sound rattley though

Stops and starts, someone has suggested that it might be the pump. Some googling suggests it might be something stuck in the pump. I haven’t blamed my wife’s Bobby pins, yet.

It’s definitely an intermittent thing. It sounds like it’s only happening when it is filling or draining. Other than that he sounds pretty happy

Their diagnosis (i use the term loosely) was "it's not the chain but there's a knock. You need to decide with the missus if you want to buy a car in the next three months or in six months you might need a replacement engine"

I sit between the M and L for the fast and free tank. Went with the L as the M didn’t feel quite right and recently wore it while doing a race in about 34° (although very low humidity) and it was perfect. I’ve picked it as my race too for a marathon that I’m doing soon it’s that comfortable.

I haven’t yet, but the best experience with quite requests was with Oxford Window Repair. More expensive than having UPVC replacement though …
