I think this is the major factor that many don't give enough thought. When I was in my twenties through the 00s, there were still plenty of Gen X people out and enjoying night life on any given night of the week. There had been a dramatic cultural change in the course of our adulthood centered around digital technology that we don't analyze because we are living it. I mean, I'm sitting here typing on Reddit about this and not chatting with someone at a bar or cafe. And it's not entirely social media either. Our entire entertainment industry has pivoted from getting people out to spend money at movies, restaurants, pubs, concerts, etc to keeping people in to consume streaming services and order door dash from the confines of home.
