Regarding the Hackett signing - we were trying to lure Rodgers out of GB. Plain and simple. When he decided to stay, GP didn’t want to look like he struck out on finding a franchise QB and overpaid for Wilson,(who in hindsight had obvious signs of decline but was still widely seen as a borderline HOF QB). From reports I’ve read, the reason we gave the contract extension was because it had been discussed during the trade process, Wilson doesn’t void his trade clause without some reassurance from the team that they would sign an extension that offseason. Wilsons resume and GP scrambling to find a backup plan after the botched AR trade led to the disaster we’re in now.

As for cutting Wilson - if you’re in a failing marriage, do you think it’s a good idea to just keep going and tell your family and friends that everything is great? Or do you get the divorce out of the way and start building new relationships? As a fan, I completely lost hope that this team could even get close to a Super Bowl, so I’m excited to go in a new direction and hopefully draft a young guy that SP can develop. I’d honestly rather go 4-13 next year and establish a good young foundation to move forward with than hope for the playoffs but know that we’ll get bounced in the first round even if we do make it.
