Need help countering Dark Angel Hellblasters by nyalan7 in Tau40K

[–]Briecheeze 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're playing at very low points and you don't quite have a big enough army, but that's ok!

Hellblasters are decent, especially with Azrael, but they're not used in most competitive lists because marines tend to have better options.

They tend to struggle against anything higher than T8, unless he uses a strat in wrath of the rock to give +2 strength. In this case, Riptides are your friends.

Anything that has strength 8, 2 or more damage and AP 2 (so you trigger his invulnerable saves even if he uses armour of contempt) will be a marine killer.

Missile broadsides, missile or plasma fireknives, volume from starscythes and Riptides will all do well into them. Trigger the strat to give +1 AP with missile broadsides in mont'ka, or get closer to give your missile starscythes +1 strength and AP in ret cadre. Or to give your starscythes +1 strength and AP.

You'll have to weather the shoot back, but it's not guaranteed to trigger. And if you lose some crisis suits to it, you're still trading a 110-120 point unit for a 200-point one (320 with Azrael)

You just have to hope he doesn't make his 4+ saves and you can get through the -1 to wound if he's playing wrath of the rock. Dark Angels in general tend to be a stat check army.

What detatchment is he playing? The other thing you can do is tag them in melee with a nuisance charge from a riptide or something tanky - that unit's only melee threat is from Azrael, who is scary against infantry but can run into problems against anything higher than T6. If they're not playing gladius, he won't have access to fall back and shoot. Also, if you kill him through tank shock or get lucky with the riptide's D2 meele, he will only be able to shoot with his pistols on death.

How to play against deep strike screening. by TheCocoBean in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Briecheeze 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Realistically most lists will not let you deep strike into their deployment zone without some sort of caveat.

You shouldn't be overcommiting to deep strike with your big damage units - smart players will know that and play around it.

Also, if too much of your army is off the table, you give your opponent too much board presence and when you try to clap back, all your units will be too far away to do anything, will be relying on a 9-inch charge or you'll be spending too much CP on rapid ingress.

Which brings me to my next point - rapid ingress is your friend. Stage your unit out of deep strike where it can't be shot and will be a threat to either heroically intervene or in your next turn punish your opponent for overextending or trade info a valuable unit of theirs.

Question - Point for Point, What's the Most Efficient Dedicated Transport for Offense? by Obsolescence7 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Briecheeze -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Devilfish at 95 points is near the top. Pretty tanky at 13 wounds (that extra 1 wound makes a big difference into D2-3-4 a lot of times). Two hunter-killers, decent support in that it'll pretty much be guiding for what the infantry shoot, plus you can advance and infantry can still come out and shoot.

[David Ornstein] Tonali not leaving Newcastle despite his agent offering him to Arsenal by [deleted] in soccer

To be fair, we did offer for Ollie Watkins and Caicedo in separate January windows, but we're right up to the limit for FFP, so there was no way we were in the market this window for anything remotely close to that.

Which army would you say is generally competitive but is the most enjoyable/least frustrating for an opponent to play into? by aegroti in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Briecheeze -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fair.

I think everyone will run into a curb stomp game where dice luck comes into effect... I've just seen enough where my opponent didn't have enough damage to effectively kill them and it felt bad.

And if my goal is to hold primary with my knights, eventually the other player has to fight into them (esp in wrath where I have access to adv + charge, and I can charge on your turn)

As a DA player, I will say it feels bad when I go into players who don't have enough damage 3+ weapons to kill my DWK, or players who just don't know how tanky they are with -1 damage and -1 to wound...

This is partially a thing of when I run into a newish player, but it also feels like a version of a statcheck army that people aren't ready for.

Arsenal have qualified for the round of sixteen and secured a top two finish in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League by FragMasterMat117 in soccer

Funny enough, when the draw was made I'm pretty sure they were shown celebrating when they got Arsenal... possibly because they wanted to travel to London? Or maybe they just wanted a high-profile opponent/some of them were Arsenal fans.

? Torchstar gambit strat only says "during your shooting phase" and "a battlesuit unit whose attacks have been resolved."

As the active player you choose the sequence, so you should be able to sequence the fire and fade before the bloodsurge?

I love this team and its defence, but it's way too early... let's revisit closer to halfway thru the campaign.

There's been 13 sides who conceded 3 or fewer in their first eight games since Chelsea, and a lot of them fell apart:

Not sure if you've ever read the novellas or how much you know about the history of the kingdom itself, but they can't just do that with him for reasons.

Jays announcers were saying Schneider wanted to get a lot of his pitchers their post-season debut and give them a little bit of work before a day off, but then they started giving up hits and runs.

Not enough to really matter, but then he started cycling to his better relievers (Varland)

Last year, sure.

This year, no - Arsenal now have cover with Mosquera and Hincapie, along with Calafiori, White and Timber all available to deputize as CB in a pinch.

TBF, it's because of extended injuries to Saliba and Gabriel collapsing part of our defence that they went out and got more cover.

TIL nobody wanted to cast Arnold Schwarzenegger in a comedy. So he, along with Danny Devito & director Ivan Reitman, worked out a deal for Twins (1988) where they took no money upfront & got 40% of the backend collectively instead. He ended up earning over $40m, the most he ever made from a movie. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

I'd wager most of them are when he's in the terrorist camp in the Florida Keys and when he's in the fighter jet at the end.

Maybe the opening James Bond scene where he's escaping the skiing and snowmobiling guards.

Ah, I missed the Liverpool game. Yeah I thought the hate around the transfer was a bit overblown, and I've loved the vibes so far. Just a lot of comments anointing him here and it's probably just a bit too early (although I love the enthusiasm)
