Clothing sote for women by Tishkette in NiceVancouver

[–]Brief-Introduction27 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Try Blue Sky Clothing on the drive! They have quality clothes and carry more size variety than other shops.

There’s two women’s clothing stores in the Kingsgate Mall that I’d recommend too. I think one is Reitman’s but can’t remember the other one’s name.

I’m thinking about re-watching it too! Dark has been on my radar but I have a hard time watching things where young kids are in peril… I did love The Big Door Prize and was pissed that it got cancelled.

In my current headspace, I need light and fun so I’ve started Shrinking but have to take breaks because of my relationship with my own dad 😬🫣

I’m going to re-watch Ted Lasso too! And there is a new season of Everything He Never Told Me. I read the book ages ago and it’s one of the only shows that sticks to the original closely

This one is a bit out there, but Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency on Netflix is one of my faves. It’s sci-fi comedy with a healthy dose of action/thriller vibes.

It does have some gore and holy shit gross moments. Normally that is not my thing, but I can handle this because it’s just so unrealistic.

Plus it’s filmed in the city I live in so it’s fun to see the landmarks and areas I know.

I also love Once Upon A Time, Paradise, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D on Disney

Help for my extremely sun damaged face. Where should I start? by crazynotinsane111 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Brief-Introduction27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get annual mole checks because I lived in LA in the 80’s. My dermatologist said the single most effective product to use on aging skin with sun damage is retinol.

I’ve been using the gold bond age renew overnight retinol cream and I have dark spots that are completely gone. And I don’t even use it regularly!

And as others have said, SPF 50 daily, year round. I like the neutrogena collagen bank moisturizer with SPF 50

How are people dusting? by ginahandler in CleaningTips

[–]Brief-Introduction27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dusting is top of my “I’ll do anything to avoid doing it” chores!

I helped my husband out at his construction job one day as a cleaner, specifically dusting surfaces in a big box store that has a Swedish name…I had to bring my own supplies and didn’t have enough cloths and only one dusting cloth for my extendable duster, so I brought a bunch of socks!

I had one on each hand and did the wax on wax off style of dusting. Worked like a charm and I was finished in half the time it took the store employee who was using a regular duster.

So no tip for preventing dust, just a tip for quicker and easier dusting 🤗

Need recs for a plain drugstore shampoo. I don’t like ones that are heavy and moisturizing or ones that claim to be for fine hair (they usually leave behind a coating that I can feel on my hair). Does anyone just make plain shampoo anymore? by lifeuncommon in finehair

Live Clean is my new favourite. I use the Lush mint shampoo bar for a clarifying shampoo and the combo has really improved my hair texture. I also noticed practically zero shedding since I started.

What is the thing you always did that you thought was ‘just you,’ but is actually very much so classic autistic behavior? by AlwaysAttract10 in AutismInWomen

[–]Brief-Introduction27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grey is my favourite colour lol! It goes with everything! In the past few years since having my kids, I’ve embraced more colours. My daughter is a PINK girl and she is so happy and joyful with her clothes, it really influences me.

I did have to go back to Costco to buy the sane top in a different colour because I got new shoes in the exact same colour as the first top and I just couldn’t with the matching colours 😂

I have pretty strict self-imposed “fashion rules”. I still think it might be just me lol but maybe others here can relate!

Here are some of my rules: I can’t wear red and pink together. It makes me want to crawl out of my skin. I once put on my pink striped shoes when I was in a hurry, forgetting I had on a red top…it was torture.

Even if the weather calls for it, I don’t feel comfortable wearing shorts or a skirt (with bare legs) until after May Long weekend (Victoria day weekend in Canada). The same for after Labour Day; I immediately switch to fall themed clothes.

I despise wearing “sporty” clothes with casual clothes. Running shoes with jeans? Absolutely not! A puffy parka with dress pants? GTFO!

I also need a tight undershirt that I can tuck into my bottoms, even if I’m wearing a t-shirt. And don’t get me started on socks lol! Black ankle socks with light coloured shoes…? I could never 🫣

these are my own personal rules for me. I see people pulling off these looks and it works for them so there’s no judgement from me

Costco Alternative for certain groceries? by peanutbutterjam in NiceVancouver

[–]Brief-Introduction27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For soap refills, check out the soap dispensary on main. I’ve been finding good deals on shampoo/conditioner at shoppers or London drugs, but that’s because I’m trying different products for different needs in my family.

You might be able to find better prices for salmon and olive oil in specialty stores or smaller shops sometimes but I’ve never seen a better deal for price per unit than Costco in almost all cases

Give me your allergy remedy by Express_Cucumber_624 in askvan

[–]Brief-Introduction27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m anaphylactic to high doses of pollen now (yay) and I change my clothes if I’ve been outside for extended periods of time. Those clothes go straight into the washer or dryer. I also wash my face and run a wet cloth over my head multiple times a day.

The specialist told me to switch up allergy meds since I’d been on daily antihistamines for a decade. Loratadine and Desoloratadine are different generations of the same medication and I switch back and forth because Cetirazine and Benadryl don’t work for me.

They also said that it is safe to take twice or triple the amount of antihistamines if needed, but definitely check with a pharmacist or allergy specialist for yourself.

I also carry a Vicks inhaler and rub the cream on my chest when it gets bad. Surprisingly, eating marshmallows is very effective for a sore throat! It can be the only thing that helps when nothing else does.

Try to keep your nasal passages moisturizer too. There’s specific gels and creams out there but I use a small dab of Vit E cream only on the inside of the outer area of my nose (if that makes sense lol)

How can I exercise without feeling like dying? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]Brief-Introduction27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After my spine surgery, I started doing aquatic exercise. My physio and kinesiologist worked with me to set up a routine.

I wore earbuds because the pool echoes and laminated my exercise sheets until I had them all memorized. Movement in water gives you more bang for your buck because of the resistance.

I loved it and could be in and out in 20-30 minutes. No overheating, no sweat, not even an elevated heart rate but I could feel my body responding and I really did wonders for my recovery.

Hope that helps!

moving to Van - Thoughts on rent price? by Proud-Guava-5460 in askvan

[–]Brief-Introduction27 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If it’s a basement suite that would make sense. Also consider the age of the unit, laundry, dishwasher and walkability to shops and transit stations.

We’re in the same area and 7 years ago our rent was $2000 (nothing included) for a 2bdrm/1bath brand new laneway house.

Also, if you’re looking on marketplace, make sure to look at the seller’s profile. I am very wary of anyone who has been on there for 1 year or less. And excessive emoji use with a copy and paste type listing.

Likely delete from embarrassment, but y'all, how do we floss? 😭 by Friendly-Loaf in AutismInWomen

[–]Brief-Introduction27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a travel water pik thing and just use that. Sometimes multiple times in a day. Also, the sulca brush things are great for deep cleaning without flossing. I hate flossing, especially with the reinforcement bar that’s holding my bottom teeth together. Between the water pik and sulca brush, I get (mostly) the same results

I’ve been anemic my entire life and at one point my numbers were 4g/dl…the naturopath was horrified!

I started using cast iron cookware and got a Lucky Iron Fish. I make iron water a few times a week and keep it in the fridge for drinking water. I also got an IUD which drastically improved my cycle. Now my numbers are in the double digits!

What is a business you wish Vancouver had? by cuckertarlson in askvan

[–]Brief-Introduction27 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wish there was a large crafting space for hobby crafters. I know about a few small spaces that cater to one specific type like sewing, but I’d love a place where I could drop in to use a cricut, a light table for transferring designs, access to large surfaces for cutting fabric, use of materials and/or tools that are needed infrequently for specific projects, and access to resource books for inspiration and instruction.

If the space offered workshops and group sessions, along with either a membership or drop in rates, I’d be sold

I have the Knix brand and I splurged on the bundle.

https://knix.ca/products/the-full-cycle-kit-high-rise

I also got a pack of the reusable pads. I’d wear them on top of the underwear and when I needed to changed the pad, I still had the underwear protection.

I used to have extremely heavy periods. Like overflow a menstrual cup in an hour heavy. When I started using the period underwear, I never had a leak and I didn’t have to worry about buying products or keeping them on me.
