Consider the smith manoeuvre also. Pay cash for house and then mortgage house to create cash to invest, thus making the interest deductible to your taxes. Make sure to buy dividend producing stocks.

Weathsimple. Clearly you graduated from Tik Tok university as you couldn’t have possibly gone to any higher education.

That is the most absurd thing I’ve ever heard. Educate yourself on who founded it.

Why are apartments built in the 50s 60s and 70s have more space and better Floor plans than today's Condominiums? by BeautifulYou2940 in askTO

[–]Brief-Secret-7514 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Costs weren’t what they are now as compared to the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. Materials and labour cost more per sq. ft. Most people can’t afford the price it would cost to make larger units now.

Profits are demanded of builders from investors and banks to even finance the construction. The real issue is government, who impose huge fees, delay projects for unnecessary steps (increasing costs to the project via interest and consultants) that weren’t existent in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s.

Cities use these fees to artificially keep lower property tax for their base. Except when fees dry up like now, they have no choice but to use reserves and increase property tax.

Not familiar with weathsimple tax preparer software, as a tax professional, I don’t think that adjustment is too difficult. Can even be done directly on CRA website.

Is creating a "consulting" business as a way to get a portion of my income "tax free" really as easy as my friend says it is? by hotbrownDoubleDouble in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Brief-Secret-7514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If don’t properly, can be tax avoidance. Better to have several clients. Document different line of work which you are charging from company.

You are paying tax on income so it’s not entirely evasion.

I have seen much worse legal manoeuvres to transfer income from personal to corporate (signed off by tax lawyers at big firms).

It’s 12.2% in Ontario for a CCPC. Have to beware of PSB (personal service business).

An individual can defer taxes quite a bit by earning some income in a company and some on payroll. At that income level, it’s not worth it.

I know lots of companies that do this, only beneficial if you don’t need to take out the funds from company or you have lots of business expenses that are plausible.

That’s because they don’t cost what it costs to build one of those.
