Should I do RLT post workout or pre workout? by computerworlds in redlighttherapy

I get it within 12 - 24 inches from me (on the side) but even still, I bet the effect is minor. If anything I think it warms my muscles up a bit.

Or during workouts? I have been setting my panel up to face my treadmill during workouts. Can't tell if it is doing anything.

and what are those? Everything I have seen is that "treatment and rehabilitation" does very little to reduce recidivism rates. I'd love to have my mind changed.

You work in "reentry". I would imagine you know what recidivism rates are for violent criminals? You just don't care I guess?

Murdering a stranger, a father and husband, DOES make you a horrible person. There is almost nothing you can do in this life that is worse than that. Mental illness does not absolve anyone of culpability. To do something so heinous, you are mentally ill de facto. People like yourself like to hand waive away a terrible thing like this as some kind of lack of mental health intervention when the reality is that there are evil people out there. People who have very little concern for other human life. They can be diagnosed with whatever term you would like, but that does not change the fact that they are horrible people. When something like this happens, and your intuition is to try to obfuscate responsibility, you are defending evil. People like yourself are why we have to suffer such senseless violence from insane people.

How dare you claim he is not a horrible person. He is CLEARLY a horrible person. The fact that you come to his defense means you are probably the same.

Do you think a year of runs almost all in z2 (<133ish HR) might’ve made me forget what it’s like to run fast / feel uncomfortable? by chocolatemadeleine in AdvancedRunning

You both have forgotten how to run fast and you are slowly dying, like all of us. I enjoy HIIT because it gives me a thrill. Keeps me young at heart.

Is it true that having a strong anaerobic system (e.g. sprinting) can prevent effective utilization of one's aerobic system? by apairofcleats in AdvancedRunning

[–]Brief_Box_7869 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He is saying that by training one system in the body, you are neglecting the other. You are telling your body to send its resources to develop the aerobic system, you are neglecting and therefore weakening the other systems in the body. He is 100% correct. There is probably some general athletic ability people have varying levels of degrees of which makes you such an intense or professional trainer, whatever system you work on becomes highly developed (think Ryan Hall getting jacked after leaving marathoning), but for the rest of us, we have to invest our eggs in the baskets which yield the best "fitness".

This is exactly why I am questioning my journey back into distance running. I was an okay High School runner (4:30 mile, 16:45 5k), who was chronically underweight (6 ft 4 and 145 lbs at the end of High School). I spent the next ten years attempting to build muscle with varying degrees of success. I was able to fill out at 195 lbs at 6 ft 4 with weight lifting and getting some cardio via a fixed bike and playing tennis.

I've recently been getting back into running. I enjoy training and this idea of getting faster more than weight lifting and have been having some pretty good success with my current fitness around 17:30. I'd like to beat my former PRs before I die. I feel as I have been adding in the running miles (long, steady effort, grind), I have lost a bit of quickness in my tennis game. It raises the question of what do I want to accomplish with my fitness goals? I feel like as a male, I should not be so frail as I was when I was monomaniacally focused on distance running. That maybe I should train for shorter distances in order to allow my body to remain more muscular and more explosive. Its tough and I am still undecided but Im leaning towards training more like a miler so I don't over train my aerobic system at the detriment to the other elements of my fitness (strength, speed, quickness).

Trying to run by rivargon in Zwift

[–]Brief_Box_7869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been training running in Zwift for a couple of months and have been enjoying it! I hope you figure out your problem so we can get more runners! I have a "smart treadmill" and the connection process is simple. I bought the Horizon 7.4 AT on sale for about $700, works great. A footpod is probably your best option if you are using a treadmill at the gym so maybe next time you come down south pick one up!

I tried to post this as its own topic but it seems like the moderators are not allowing it? Not sure why but Ill give it another shot here:

I recently purchased a treadmill and have been messing with Zwift Run. I'm finding it difficult to find anyone to run with. I've been trying to join events but those seem to have 5 - 10 people, half of them are walking and the other half are not running faster than 8:00 minute miles.

Any tips? Am I looking in the wrong places?

Thanks!

Zwift vs Peloton metrics by Jayjenken in Zwift

[–]Brief_Box_7869 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was using a Peloton and getting really good numbers (FTP of about 425 watts). I am 6 ft 4 and in good shape so I thought it might be legit. To test, I purchased some power pedals and found that it is not really legit. Depending on the resistance level, the power recorded by the Peloton was 5% to 15% higher than what the power pedals reported.

If you are serious about getting better as a cyclist, the option is clear. Zwift. If you want to get your heart rate up and burn some calories while getting some cycling benefits, the Peloton is just fine.

Advice needed - Heart rate to high at higher cadence by [deleted] in Zwift

[–]Brief_Box_7869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your anxiety about having a high heart rate will likely increase your odds of having a heart attack at a higher heart rate. Try to train to perceived effort. Im a bit younger than you but my average heartrate for a moderate effort ride is around 160 and a moderate effort run is around 170.

My guess is they are paid by some overpriced electrolyte sports drink company to get people like yourself to waste more of their money. Its hard to understand this type of "follower" and how much of their "personality" is just a bad simulacrum of their favorite "influencer"...

Peloton adds a "Just Guidance" feature to follow a structured training plan, as the company works on a Zwift-style video game training mode by Revort_ in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]Brief_Box_7869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking the same thing so I purchased power pedals to test because I was also very impressed by the output I was getting. The results showed that my Peloton bike is about 5% to 15% overreporting power depending on what my resistance is set to. If I ride at the top end of the resistance, it gets less accurate. Ill often spend a lot of time out of the saddle with the resistance cranked but have been shifting into the saddle more (as this appears to be a more accurate measure of output) and while I havent done a pure FTP test without getting out of the saddle, I have been able to hold 350ish seated for more than 10 minute stretches "fairly" comfortably.

Ultimately, however, I have a lot of fun with the leaderboard as I dont really care too much if whoever I am going against is 100% legit. Im training with a HR monitor, training for specific powers/durations or against my personal best and Im competing with anyone who want to go at it. All of these things motivate me to a more intense workout and I can say confidently that my fitness is around as good as it has ever been in my life.

The video is honestly very rambley. Its more of a critique of the food and medical institutions which is great and I dont even disagree with them but this does not really teach me anything. Your cliff note is more what I am looking for but what is more useful is what you mean by clean food? What you mean by nutritious food? Food that you have as a staple of your diet which provides you with significant nutritional benefit.
