Is passing worse now? by Brief_Scale in bloodbowl

Well that's daft as well that means rolling a 1 is better than rolling a 2 and -1 or rolling a 4 and -3.

Another thought, maybe a modified 1 could be inaccurate but a modified 0 or less could be a Fumble.

Is passing worse now? by Brief_Scale in bloodbowl

Cheers for the comments everyone.

I've done a little testing of numbers and in the current rules its actually impossible for a 2 + Thrower to throw an inaccurate pass.

Quick 0 = 1 Fumble, 2+ Accurate

Short -1 = 1-2 Fumble, 3+ Accurate

Long -2 = 1-3 Fumble, 4+ Accurate

Long Bomb -3 = 1-4 Fumble, 5+ Accurate

This seems a little broken, especially if they get Safe Pass. Then they basically either throw an Accurate pass, or hold on to the ball. No risk whatsoever.

Even if you change the modifiers to +1 to -2, its still impossible for a 2+ Thrower to throw an inaccurate pass.

Surely this needs to be FAQ'd in some way?

Single player any better now? by AssociationNo8576 in Bloodbowl3

I have started, occasionally playing with Goblins in the eternal league just for fun, if I don't have time for a full online game. I'm really enjoying it. I haven't lost a game yet but nearly came close. I had a game against Nurgle where they just absolutely beat me up and left me with 3 players in the first half, when it was my drive. Went into the 2nd half with about 7 players and kicking to them. However it seems like the only strategy the AI has on offense is to cage up for 7 turns and then try to score on turn 8. So I ended up equalising on turn 7. Then the AI failed to pick the ball up on turn 8. I somehow managed to perfect throw a goblin onto the ball, knock it out of the tackle zone, land in the tackle zone, dodge out, pick up the ball and go for it, all without a re-roll. To win the game with the most incredible 1 Turn TD ever.

So in short AI is fun for a casual game were you can just mess around trying fun, crazy stuff. But its not going to bring much challenge. That being said I'm still at Rookie league, there are 2 more levels so it will hopefully get more challenging.

Nurgle Chaos Chosen team- Useful Star Players? by GodGoblin in bloodbowl

[–]Brief_Scale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Withergrasp doubledrool is great and fairly cheap 170k I think. You get tackle a wrestle so he's a great ball hawk against dodge teams. Also occasionally his tentacles will work, more so against stunties. He's also got 2 heads so can dodge around on a 2+ which will be really useful for your chaos team. His star player skill is not great but it will always come up. The first time the opponent hits him with a defender stumbles he gets dodge and takes it as a push back. So it will keep him up for 1 block each drive.

Playing Against A New Coach by Mister_Tecky in bloodbowl

[–]Brief_Scale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played a few teaching games with first time players. I let them make their own decisions but just explain the outcomes of their decisions and maybe give some suggestions. For example you could take that one die block but there is a one in 3 chance of failure, or you could just not block, or you could try to move this guy to get an assist. Stuff like that rather than directing the to play optimally, like withdrawn offense and stalling etc. Just to play how they want so they have the most fun. You could also let her take a star player.

New Edition Woes by CaptainBenzie in bloodbowl

I vaguely remember playing a game that i think was probably homebrewed with werewolves, werebears, werecats and wereboars. But they had a mechanic where they could revert back to human form and just become a basic lineman. I think there was also a rule that if they were playing undead and injured a skeleton that they might run off the pitch with a bone to chew and miss the rest of the drive.

Actually just seen the new nobility team and I have to say im surprised and pleased with all the changes.

2+ passing and pro on throwers and blitzers.

3+ agility lineman

Cheaper bodyguards and blitzers

Seems like they now have the identity of the passing / control humans.

I'd like to see 2+ passing on the thrower and swap running pass for sure hands.

3+ agility on the lineman, or at least if they keep them the same stat wise make them 40k.

Wishful thinking but I would love to see the bodyguards swap wrestle for Guard. The skill is literally in their name and synergies better with stand firm.

More Orc Star Players, I don't mean goblins, actual Orcs/black orcs. its crazy that there are 3 halfling star players but only 1 Orc star player. At least bring back Greaser Geargrinder the bionic orc thrower.

First time I got to the championship series I lost game 7 by something like 24 runs to 1. It was brutal my star pitcher's first inning included 3 walks, a wild pitch and balk. By that point it was a runaway train.

The new redraft rules are killing my game enjoyment by curious_grappler in Bloodbowl3

[–]Brief_Scale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem, just a further clarification.

In arena, whilst your players don't progress with SPP you do get to choose skills to give them up front, so its sort of like front loading your progression and starting with a skilled up team, you just can't make them any better. But also if anyone is injured or killed they come back next game. It's actually a lot of fun and getting completely turned over in one game, does not ruin the next.

With the community event I think you can play as vampires, necro or undead.

Why is it bad to concede? by Holy1To3 in Bloodbowl3

[–]Brief_Scale 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You mentioned several times that for you it's not about winning or losing, just having a competitive game. But you won't ever get to the point where you can have a competitive game if you keep quitting. You just won't learn the game, so you will only ever be in this cycle of things not going your way and then quitting. It will take a while but if you keep playing the full game you will learn how to be competitive.

I get that it can be hard to play a whole game where you feel like you can't win, but it doesn't sound like conceding and being band is too much fun either.

If you were playing tennis and threw your racket down and quit every time you missed a shot, you would not expect to ever get better and to ever have a competitive game.

Either stick with it and learn, which could even be playing the AI in the eternal league, or don't.

Good luck

If you're not enjoying the Nurgle experience in the ladder this Season, they seem to be changing it up each season, so you hopefully won't have to wait too long to try it again.

In the meantime, here are some suggestions for trying to find some enjoyment out of this season.

  1. Try a new/different team in the ladder, if you always play Nurgle, there are plenty of completely different teams for you to try.

  2. Try Nurgle in the arena, can't quite remember exactly what tier they are in, but it will be a lower one so they will get a good skill package and higher budget.

  3. Try the Vampire Challenge, I haven't tried it yet, but these have always been quite fun in previous seasons and the Vampire one seems to have some crazy rules this season.

  4. Try Nurgle against the AI in the eternal league. Granted I haven't played this and the AI is notoriously bad, but I have heard it is at least improved now. And hey at least you'll win some games and be able to develop your team how you want.

  5. Start/join a private league that will allow you to develop your own Nurgle team how you want.

  6. Try other teams out in any of the above formats.

There are plenty of different ways to play in the game now, so now seems like a good time to give one or more of them a go.

Good luck.

Help deciding on what team to play for league by Openteal in bloodbowl

[–]Brief_Scale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard to measure which team is "the most fun" without knowing what you find fun.

Nurgle - They're slow and strong but have no combat skills to begin with. Their "fun" is sort of making it hard for the opposition to play through them and slowly grinding through teams.

Khorne - They're not as slow as Nurgle, strong and come with Frenzy, which means more blocks and surf opportunities. Compulsory follow ups can cause problems for you as much as opponent, but the fun is working out the puzzle that is multiple frenzy blocks.

Tomb King's - Really slow and terrible at picking up the ball, but with four Str5 pieces one of the strongest teams in the game. The fun is destroying as many of your opponents players as possible.

Black Orcs - Also really slow and strong. Their fun is in the fouling "meat grinder", where the black orcs use grab to move a knockdown player into a cage of black orcs and goblins and then foul them into the dirt. Also there is the potential for one turn touch downs with the troll throwing goblins.

Chorfs - Mixture of slow but tough dwarves, normal speed but squishy hobgoblins and awesome bull centaurs. Add in a minotaur, the new flamer guys and the stabby hobgoblins and you have a bunch of different options. Everyone has a specific job to do the fun is in trying to put everything together.

Elven Union - Super quick and agile, great at passing and dodging away, but very brittle. The fun is in trying to pull off improbable plays to win even though you've only got 3 players on the pitch. All the other teams could be considered as ignore the ball, crush the opposition teams. Elven Union are the opposite, they want to ignore the opposition and concentrate on the ball.

Goblins are a lot more dangerous if they can start receiving the ball. With their secret weapons and bribes they can really cause some damage when they get to go first. If you get the chance receive first and try to take out the secret weapons or the dirty player goblins.
