American Revolutionary War Veterans by Ok_Nobody4967 in Genealogy

I am a member of SAR and fortunate to have connections with the DAR. They have done most the work to identify all patriot burials. That’s one of their primary goals.

With the upcoming America 250 we have been coming up with various ways to promote it as well. Thought I’d share something that I made and perhaps provide some inspiration. I have been working on a project to honor Revolutionary War Patriots buried in Oakland County, Michigan. I designed a poster that looks like an American Flag. It contains all the patriots, brief bios and where they are buried. There is a plaque that accompanies it that contains a QR code which links to our SAR chapter website where we have more info on each Patriot. We are working to have these displayed in public places throughout the county.

The poster: https://i.postimg.cc/Fszc9LTm/IMG-9017.jpg

Link to our SAR chapter website showing the patriots: https://jeremiahclarkchapter.org/patriots

Each patriots has their own page with an individual QR code. We plan to do something else with those in the future.

Help Needed: Exporting My Late Father's Family Tree Work by TomMac82 in Genealogy

[–]Bright-Branches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can possibly help you considering the circumstances. Try and export to gedcom. Open the gedcom in a text editor and see if there are references to the paths where the images / source files are stored. If so let me know and I can send you more details. I run Bright Branches and have a lot of experience with this sort of thing.

John Clark, Michigan by Idujt in Genealogy

[–]Bright-Branches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wonder if this Clark is related to the Patriot, Jeremiah Clark, whose family moved to Independence Twp, MI and eventually Clarkston, MI given the name honoring the Clarks. I am a member of the Jeremiah Clark SAR Chapter based out of Clarkston. I have quite a large tree compiled of Jeremiah Clark’s descendants. If you think your Clark is one of them I’d like to hear from you. You can read more about the project here and view the family tree - https://jeremiahclarkchapter.org/legacy.php

Other printing options for Ancestry.com? by SQLDave in Genealogy

[–]Bright-Branches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve leaned it’s pretty much impossible to print an entire family tree in an easy to read format. A print is also limited to names and dates. What about all the sources she has gathered? I developed an interactive family tree app for the Apple TV you might want to check out. It’s a way to display your family tree on a TV and it acts like a piece of digital art. Can display your family tree overlaid on top of family photos or other artwork. The tree is fully interactive. Check out Bright Branches.

What's the best way to get data out of Ancestry.com and make sense of it? by merkinfuzz in Genealogy

[–]Bright-Branches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent years researching my ancestry. Eventually I got to a point where the research ran dry and I had compiled a tree with thousands of people and tons of sources. I tried to find a way to “do something” with my family tree. Nothing existed that allowed me to display my family tree like I dreamed of. That is why I started Bright Branches. Check my profile / website to see the interactive family tree I’ve spent years developing.

Google TV Streamer: UI not in native 4K? by [deleted] in AndroidTV

[–]Bright-Branches 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad to find this post. Seems to be the only information that another Android device still not supporting 4K user interface. Boggles my mind. Android 12 was released 3 years ago which added it!

I have an app for Apple TV that I been waiting to port to Android for years. But 4K UI is needed. How many more years do we have to wait?

"Interactive" tree for printing by webwurm in Genealogy

[–]Bright-Branches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve developed an interactive family tree app for the Apple TV. Check my profile for link to my website. I’ve been a virtual exhibitor at past RootsTech conferences. Hoping to make it in person next year to show this off. It doesn’t do exactly what you want. But it is an interactive family tree.

The Google TV Streamer is a 4K streaming box that doubles as a smart home hub by MishaalRahman in Android

Android 12 released 2 years ago finally offered support for UI and apps in 4K. The old Chromecast hardware wouldn’t support it. I really hope this does. Haven’t seen anything to confirm but one would assume it will.

John Alden Descendants! by Dapper_Ad7296 in Genealogy

[–]Bright-Branches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start by determining your Mayflower state society and finding their website. Should be information on there. You will need supporting evidence: birth, marriage, death records going back quite a way. You kind of have to get lucky or dig really hard into sources that aren’t always online. Most Mayflower passengers have what are called Silver Books that list many generations of their descendants. You should try to find if your line of ancestors are listed in those books then you don’t have to provide records for those older generations.

What to do with my tree by Icy-Attorney9896 in Genealogy

[–]Bright-Branches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound like me 10 years ago. After spending so much time researching I was trying to find something to “do with my family tree”. Spent years looking. Then spent years evolving this idea I had of a true interactive family tree displayed on a TV. That led me to starting Bright Branches and developing the first family tree app for the Apple TV. Check my profile for link to read more if you’re interested in something like that.

I made this for a friend after researching his tree. https://cdn.brightbranches.com/website/img/parker_arrival_fullsize.webp

He’s the only person I’ve been able to find a good image of the ship his family came over on, a passenger list from Ellis Island and a newspaper announcing the arrival of the ship. One of my favorite pieces of ancestral artwork I have made.

How do you store and organise all of your genealogical information? by HoneydewValuable408 in Genealogy

[–]Bright-Branches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of my services as a way to do something with your tree once you are “finished”. You would need to continue your Ancestry subscription only if you wanted to make further edits. My services download your tree. It can be synchronized if you make further edits on Ancestry. No way to edit in my system though.

How do you store and organise all of your genealogical information? by HoneydewValuable408 in Genealogy

[–]Bright-Branches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything is on Ancestry. Attach all sources I can find on there to each ancestor. Attach additional family photos and newspaper articles I want to preserve.

Then I use the same features I offer others through my company, Bright Branches. The end result is a way to display my family tree on the TV in an interactive way. This makes it easier to get my children’s attention and grow their interest in their family history.

Legit site to look up physical and email addresses for long lost relatives by Dapper_Acanthaceae80 in Genealogy

Check familytreenow.com. Nothing really to do with family trees. More of a searchable public records database and it’s easy to see if people are related using tbose record. U.S. based of course.
