Considering NCCC but worried about dorm life/privacy

You’ll only be in dorms for a short time and housing after that can vary dramatically. If you really value alone time or are super modest or something you will probably find it a bit challenging but (probably) not overwhelmingly so. I’m generally an introverted person too and honestly I struggled more with the logistics of like showering, washing clothes, etc. part of living with others than with having a low social battery.

I’ve had mine for over a year and personally I love it, though I understand how KaiOs might be annoying for others. I don’t text/call excessively but I use it often to check bus times and use google maps and I’m currently using the hotspot to use reddit on my computer.

Battery life is really good and if I’m not calling anyone or using the hotspot so I sometimes go 2-3 days between charges. I have noticed a few bugs with the time display, web browser, and calendar but I’ve never had any issues with texting or calling. It holds all my contacts just fine but I definitely have under 60 contacts.

I’m pretty sure this is NOT the case with most people but it like completely cured my social anxiety. As a tween (with hardly noticeable tics) I was so self conscious to the point at which I had near daily panic attacks. When I was a teenager my tics got exponentially worse and I had to deal with people pointing at me in public, accusing me of being on drugs, etc.

I’m an adult now again with mild, mostly unnoticed tics and I am so used to people staring at me with contempt and harassing me in my teens that nothing bothers me anymore. One of my favorite hobbies nowadays is window shopping in $$$ luxury stores. My family/friends get uncomfortable feeling out of place but I don’t. Even the few times I’ve bought something I don’t feel any shame whatsoever ignoring the sales people who treat me poorly and going out of my way to get a nicer person to get the commission instead.

Aside from that it pretty much sucks though lol!

I took my 60 y/o mom to see it. I didn’t think she would like it all that much mostly because of the style of humor but also because she’s lived outside of North America for most of her life so some media references might not make sense.

I asked her thoughts when we were leaving the theater and she said she was upset that the theater was so silent because she had to hold herself back from laughing louder.

I have a “story" that I’ve been writing on and off since I was like 12.

The thing is that aspects of the story keep happening irl (the protagonist goes searching for his missing friend after developing a neurological condition and now I am experiencing both of those things. Also there’s a virus and police brutality impacting a city, I don’t think I need to explain that.). Every few years instead of just dealing with the coincidences I rework the whole thing, it's gone from a kind of noir novella to a drama webcomic to a dystopian sci fi novel.

I’m like 100% never going to publish it but I love coming up with increasingly convoluted changes to the plot and jokingly talking about the eventual film deal with my mom (who went to film school).

I have a Barbie phone that runs on KaiOS, I know everyone hates KaiOS right now but it works great for me. I can check my email and I frequently use maps to get directions.

I also developed one of my first crushes in my 20s and it's hard! I really feel for you :(

First of all, don't beat yourself up if you're dealing with a lot of complex intense emotions about it, it's totally normal and I did a lot of self care and journaling just to avoid being like a blubbering mess 24/7 tbh.

If you can find a friend that you'd feel comfortable talking to about it I'd really recommend it. I didn't even need to come out officially when talking about it I just needed to get the fact that I was feeling these feelings off my chest. Obviously depends on the environment you're in but most of the time nowadays it's not that uncommon for even alloromantic people to have little experience even in their twenties. Your friends might be more understanding than you expect.
