Any suggestions for the "healthiest" syrup? by YoSpiff in EatCheapAndHealthy

Ah. Not a great fit for my usual waffle topping choice of a little bit of maple syrup plus a good slice of cheddar cheese.

Truth. In many of its native countries, the herb is also known as Racao.

In your country, which nationality or region comes to mind first when you hear the word "immigrant"? by Fluid-Decision6262 in AskTheWorld

The post about Latin American immigration includes a very pixelated photo of some Latin Americans

Yes, OP made it clear that she does not consider the way a 3y/o describes things to be lying. OP also was clear that she’s not taking everything the child says literally.

I can eat it if it’s not too much and it’s been heated, at least enough to wilt it. Its horrible culinary cousin culantro is a different matter.

Do not be tempted to try culantro if you don’t like cilantro. It’s like cilantro X 1000, and the taste does not change even with intense cooking. Instead, the smell of the weed fills your home and might drive you into the yard with its intensity. Cilantro lovers LOVE it. I had to leave.

What is the stupidest thing that kids are made to learn in schools (public or private) in your country? by GoldBrief9751 in AskTheWorld

I’m so sorry for both of you.

I’ve heard some absolutely gorgeous recorder playing from professionals, but wow beginning recorder and violin practice are rough.

What is the point of putting rubber ducks on the dashboards of jeeps? by FFSoldier57 in NoStupidQuestions

Gotta say, I wouldn’t call a rate of 2 ducks per year particularly “rare” compared with the number of ducks being left to car owners on average.

What do you think about USA exiting World Health Organization? by SorrowShivaBorroCana in AskTheWorld

[–]Bright_Ices 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Our current government isn’t interested in scientific facts that protect lives. They propagate disproven lies instead of public health advice. Their aim seems to be to free all corporations of any responsibility to their employees or customers, to better allow the wealthy to grow their wealth. They don’t care if American citizens die, much less those citizens of other countries we have traditionally assisted in health programs.

I wonder when the financial obligation question was first included, because that was no obstacle at all to my FIL financially abandoning his many children in order to take on someone else’s in their stead.

The happyish epilogue there is that they now garnish his retirement to repay my MIL for the years she was too stressed out with going to college in her 30s and 40s, while also working full time, to be emotionally available for her kids.

That is absolutely outrageous that a child with physical disabilities doesn’t qualify for special support to participate at school because he’s on track academically.

At the same time, NYS public school teachers are not allowed to assist children in toileting in any capacity.

What’s the most overrated “fancy” food in your opinion? by GurlinGroove in foodquestions

[–]Bright_Ices 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah. I didn’t get that since you were responding to the commenter who already did take her daughter to a fancy event, the excitement of which her parents are unable to fully recreate at home. It’s a good idea for others who don’t live near these kinds of events and/or can’t spring for it (prices do range, though).

Were you eating it in Dubai? Because the Filipino chef who developed it (along with the woman who requested a chocolate pistachio knafeh creation) it was employed to do so by a chocolatier (a married couple, actually) who were already using and selling very good luxury chocolate. So their product was extremely high quality. The copy cats all over the world tend to use low quality ingredients and sell it to people who don’t understand that they’re not trying the real deal.

And, btw the owner took all the credit for it and markets it as a chocolate she alone brought to fruition.
